As educators in the age of fake news, we are aware of the importance of building students' ability to identify online bias and misinformation. Unfortunately, few of us have time to spend entire class periods on media literacy. In this presentation, we will review practical ways to incorporate media literacy activities into vocabulary and writing lessons. We'll also try out short, stand-alone activities to raise our students' awareness of how language is used to signal bias, and turn our students into more savvy consumers of online media.

Can you identify the logical fallacy in the previous statement? In this workshop, we will review 3 common logical fallacies that you can teach your students to identify and avoid. Using commercials, comics, and other media, we'll explore short activities to help develop our students' critical thinking skills.
