RISING OF LUSITANIA

My name is Piotr Kardas and I'm a founder and&nbsp;one-man core&nbsp;of the RISING OF LUSITANIA AnimaDoc Film Festival – an international animation film festival that is focused entirely on this unique genre combining animation and documentary. More information about the festival you can find on the festival website: <a href="http://www.animadoc.pl" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">www.animadoc.pl</a>BRIEFLY ABOUT THE FESTIVAL AND THE MAIN CONCEPT: The basis of the festival is the international competition of short animated documentaries (judged by two juries: professional and student, as well as the audience itself), accompanying screenings, and an online international conference around the topic of ANIMATED DOCUMENTARY (coordinated by my colleague, Agnieszka). I wish the festival to be first and foremost a meeting and conversation, through the movies, between the creators and the audience; a space where art will often ask difficult questions about the world and ourselves; a joint attempt to find answers to them; searching for an agreement, as in a combination of animation and documentary. Inspired by the first animated documentary - The Sinking of the Lusitania (1918) by Winsor McCay - the festival has a strong relationship with the sea. That's why one of the main ideas of the festival is "mooring it" in different port cities each year/two years (but the pandemic times impacted this, so now the festival is in port cities every two years (the first edition in 2019 was held in Liverpool, and in 2021 in Gdansk), but I wish to do it still; even in a tricky way, like in 2020 and 2022 in my city, Lodz (Lodz means "boat") in Poland, where we don't have rivers or access to the sea. The second important thing is that the festival is a fully independent project, based on my work, crowdfunding and friendly cooperation with the Local Organizer. So to save Lusitania's independence I don't apply for government grants. The previous editions of the festival had a wide, and most importantly, positive response in the world of animation. This is confirmed by the number of entries from around the world (in 2022 more than 500 submissions from 79 countries), as well as invitations for me as a curator of animated documentary programs at other festivals (Austria, Czech Republic, Indonesia, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Ukraine, and Hungary).<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/O4pt7cAWBbc" allowfullscreen="true" frameborder="0"></iframe>
