Aqua Universalis by Maison Francis Kurkdjian is a Aromatic fragrance for women and men. Aqua Universalis was launched in 2009. The nose behind this fragrance is Francis Kurkdjian.

Aqua Universalis – inspired by cleanliness, a scent composed of bergamot, Sicilian lemon, lily of the valley, sweet orange and blond musky wood. It arrives as 75 ml and 200 ml EDT, as well as 1 liter laundry detergent and softener with the same notes.

The collection also features a "photophore" candle which does not arrive in a traditional glass package, but makes a hole inside its body while it burns and it seems like it is burning in its very heart. They wanted to make a little twist in the design and presentation of products and awaken their customers' interest and so invented a small leather bracelet, Tour Atour, impregnated with scent. A box of 20 fragrant incense papers is also part of the collection. Perfumer is Francis Kurkdjian.

Another one from the MFK cleaning product line. Next to 724 aka "dishwashing liquid", is its big brother Aqua Universalis aka "all-purpose cleaner/laundry detergent".

All bluntness aside, I do find this a pleasant fragrance. The opening has a sharp citrus all-purpose cleaner scent. Then it fades into a more friendly, soft, clean laundry vibe. Feels cozy and safe, but fresh and clean at the same time. Peaceful, like laying down in a fleeting soft cloud. A bit powdery like a baby powder. Blends with skin flawlessly. Very subtle and minimal to the point of unnoticeable, also because it fades so quickly.

I only use fragrance free laundry detergent these days, so smelling this was a nice change. It's like picking only the comforting and happy notes out of a fresh batch. This fragrance is something I could wear as a sort of "base fragrance", when you don't want to smell like you're wearing a perfume but still have a subtle, soothing scent surrounding you. But for that the price is quite high because the performance is weak.

jazzyjuice

very synthetic and lasted a full 45 seconds on my skin

SisterChristian

I just started getting into fragrances and learned that I gravitate towards clean, fresh, citrus, aquatic scents so this one check all the boxes for me. I love it!

dawnnyy

Accidentally bought the hair mist and sprayed one time. Actually super yummy and would consider a bottle of the original. I just dont fw hair mist

LauraVTerrazas

Very similar to 724 and I really don't like 724. 🥴

Anastasia.A

Citrusy lily, mild sweetness, fresh with a moss woody dry down, lovely, classy, but not for the asking price. 7/10

lynnphi

Olifactory memories are the best, aren't they? When I was in college, one of my boyfriends wore Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger, as did a good male friend of mine. I was too embarrassed to ask my boyfriend if I could borrow his, but I gleefully stole my friend's bottle from his dorm room and doused myself with it. It was fresh, citrusy, and for a girl in the oughts wearing it, felt very fashion forward and cool girl vibes. Fast forward 20 years later, I have Tommy in my Amazon cart but am always hesitant to click the "Buy Now" button. It is way too recognizable for me; yet, I still yearn for that memory.

Today I receive a MFK order of my beloved OSM and Grand Soir and decided on Aqua Universalis as a sample. I sprayed, sniffed, and exclaimed, "Oh $#!+" - it's Tommy of the 20's!!! Citrusy, aquatic, elevated. I am almost in tears that I've found something that can scratch that itch.

TL;DR an expensive, niche smelling CK One in the best way possible

dantek121

Fresh, Clean, Light, Classy

Vonette

Generic and synthetic. I don't know how this guy got so famous. To date I haven't enjoyed any perfume he has created. Maybe I'm missing something.

jcarolinajr

Very light on me, lemon moves quickly into wood and moss categories; then, onto the musk which is also light, present, but not earthy or come hither heavy. One should be able to wear this in an office setting without turning a head or batting an eye. I could not detect the lily of the valley on me, but there are those on whom lily of the valley projects noticeably; so a word of caution ⛔️ even with EDT.

R.diggity

Great longevity for a citrus musk. Rough laundry detergent opening but the dry down is fresh with good longevity. A higher end st Barts layered with ck be. Not worth the price tag.

warp.8

my mother's favorite scent. her skin. my childhood.

Ryahya

This is my review of MFK male wardrobe collection.

This I didn't expect to be quite good, its a simple, one dimensional combo of citrus + white floral scent, but its made very well, performance is better then your regular citrus notes, sillage is ok too.

Overall its great, but not special, not something I would want to get a full bottle of, I'll just enjoy my 11 ml bottle.

gharper

Smells like mountain air to me. A little fresh, a little bit of sweetness and warmth. Not bad.

byjeniffer

I definitley like this one... its definitely a citrus perfume for me and very unisex. I like the dry down but the opening might be a tiny bit too lemony for me. I realized I like citruses but I find myself getting tired of them quite soon. I smelt the candle of this and it was wonderful very very lovely. This is definitely one i am contemplating. The darker cap version of this (forte) definitley is NOT the same... the forte one has this nasty weird like grassy smell... the clear cap cologne forte is however wonderful!

Owen Witabi

Took a few revisits to start growing on me. Smells wonderful in the heat of summer: clean, airy, refreshing. Performance is only ok. Can still detect traces after 12 hours but only noticeable for 5-6 hours, never a strong projector.

In the late dry down, awfully reminiscent of CK Be, and having an older formulation of CK Be, the performance is better. Don’t see the need of getting a full bottle at the moment.

WitchQueen

4/10 Another expensive laundry detergent smell

The Wolf

Wore this today in the 105° heat because I wanted to compare it with my recent purchase of 724.
Very nice wearing experience. It's less musky than 724 and the orange blossom is more pronounced on my skin, so it reads softer to me. I was surprised at performance as as I was getting strong whiffs of this throughout about a 6-7 hour period until I sweated it off my skin (I didn't apply to my clothing). It's a mood lifter and I agree with the AI bullet points with the exception of evening use. Very nice but redundant since I already have 724.

Scent 7.5/10
Performance 7/10

Lykopa

A gorgeous, fresh, almost linen like opening that has a nice citrus twang to it. This is the equivalent of a crisp button down on a summer day. Smooth but a little weaker than I prefer. Guess i will be over spraying.

gunny-11199

This perfume is absolutely gorgeous, open with a fresh citrusy musk, a scent that you would like in a lazy day sleeping on a cough. Perfect for pleasing yourself, but it is kinda sad that the sillage and longevity is not that good.

Chel Bell 🔔

I have to start by saying that everything works differently for different people. I have LV Symphony as my going out/evening/special event fragrance. However, I was searching for something everyday & casual and came across this hidden gem. The notes make me so happy & the scent itself is simple but beautiful & perfect on my skin. This is an Eau De Toillette, so it’s not meant to be strong or overwhelming. However, on my skin it lasts a good 6-8 hours! I tried 724, forte & cologne forte and didn’t really care for those. I can appreciate every note of this fragrance & can say it is not a laundry or detergent scent. This is classy & perfect for day to day. I’ll even be a dare devil & wear it all year round. This is my new go to! Always go with what works for you & your body chemistry.

Olivegelly

It's a nice fresh laundry scent kinda vibe. I love the smell but it lasts less than an hour on me. It's not worth it for the price.

Chi Magno

Among my All Time Favorites. I get a lot of compliments on this one. I love citrus scents since live in a tropical climate. The downside of citrus is it normally does not have longevity. This one lasts longer than all the others I've tried. After about 6 hours I can still smell the citrus scent, just a bit creamier and woody. It also has an elegant quality, so it can be worn for more formal occassions. It's not the cheap common citrus one would smell often.
I have fragrances which my husband hates, mostly Chanel and the MFK BR 540 because they can be too heavy for tropical weather. This is among his favorites on me. This is unisex but I am not sharing with my husband and I always have one on hand. If I were to compare, it would be relatively similar to the original Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrienne, only much better.

Rodrigo2023

A fresh clean spring/summer fragrance. Unisex but slightly feminine. Smell is good very, well blended, but thousands of other fragrances have the same vibe. Longevity is really poor.

Ground hound

A feminine floral citrus.
Can`t spot the actual lily-of the-valley, but the overall white flowers part is quite distinct.
Fizzy but calm lemon and orange blossom are so well-layered with the elegant floral note that it`s hard to say where one ends and another one begins.
The musk part is barely noticeable, basically nothing will ruin your light careless summer vibe here.
Clean, fresh, moderately sweet, elegant, summery, with dare I say a "cruise" vibe. Probably should come in a set with an airy white cotton dress and a straw hat.

Misia Cloudy Lamb

First blast smells straight away like my favourite drink, which is plain spring water generously splashed with fresh lemon juice. After that photorealistic opening perfume-like phase starts. I would tell it leans a little bit on masculine side though unisex label. This is the first scent ever that I can tell express woodiness in the undertones.

After 30 minutes when dry down finally site on my skin it felt like kinda fresh slice of lemon placed on raw wooden board. You could tell it’s very generic vision but the execution of it isn’t that much blank as it sounds like. I appreciate it for very naturalistic/photorealistic quality.

istvan.buda.779

Very nice scent , kind of overpriced tho . But ,if you only have like 3 or 4 perfumes and not planning to buy more, than its worth to own this instead of buying 5-6 decent or average fresh summer perfume

eileensheats

Really reminds me of the SoCal perfume from Hollister that everyone in my middle school wore.

RapidFire56

Extremely mass-pleasig, could have been better, on the generic side but not an unrecognizable muddy mess. Beatiful blend of white florals and creamy dry musk at the base, lemon and bergamot is awkward because of they are candy-ish rather than photorealistic, lemon cleaner vibes. But its refreshing, clean, feminine but manly because of the lemon. Will be liked by the people that like BDC, sauvage, also reminds me of chanels womens fragrance lines. silliage is quite powerfull considerinh how the fragrance is on the higher and thinner side of the scent spectrum. reminds you of summer vacations, california, and chilling in a summer day outside. although doesn't really fit the vibes that im going for its a solid 4/5, lemon may go too sour tho be careful on that.

auroramaria

Heavenly fragrance, clean but not laundry detergent, just fresh, clean with a gorgeous note of sweet orange to give it depht, masterfully executed, very elegant and casual at the same time, like everything in your life could smell of AU effortlessy

noanimal

Those who are describing this as "boring" or "laundry detergent" simply do not appreciate luxurious, minimalistic, gorgeous fragrances. This is mass appealing, expensive-smelling, perfect perfumery. The price may be slightly high, but given the quality it is worth it for anybody looking for a fresh, clean, luxurious fragrance. Blind-buy worthy, but as always, sample if you can.

Ducktail

Have worn this fragrance through all seasons and even in tropical climes. It sparkles in any setting and all occasions. Just a joy to get a whiff of whether on myself or others. Truly one of a kind. And lasts on me for a couple of days even after bathing. Just 2 moderate spritzes behind each ear and all set to take on the world!

violeteme

Laundry detergent, not your typical Tide or Lenor, nothing like old school soapiness of Chanel No 5, but more on that high-end side of laundry washing supplies. Musks, referred to as white musks, are widely used in detergents and fabric softeners, that's why it reminds of them so much. I would not say it smells "clean" as this is pure, lemon-floral scented laundry wash and not a smell of clean skin or not very minimal. It is quite a strong perfume, you will feel it. Very refreshing, definitely unisex, very "white-shirt" type. I like it. Doesn't last much though.

derby2169

An incredibly efficient fresh clean scent, a few sprays would quickly convey a message of personal cleanliness, a basket of clean laundry, and lathered shower gel. It does not evoke traditional soap notes, as much as that of modern surfactants, no creamy or fatty nuances you would associate with bar soap, more so transparent shower gel. The citrus notes are not very realistic, more so one dimensional recreations meant to feel as bright as possible. Dries down vaguely woody.

Not bad, but for me it is not worth the price whatsoever, but if it were given to me as a gift I wouldn't mind wearing it purely because of the functionality.

Lilleham

To me, smells like a luxury mosquito repellent

Alyjah1234

I see alot of Astringent lemon and soap comments but i mostly smell a Patchouli.... It started out as mehh and kinda strong but now its extremely sexy and sultry.

awambs

I could not wait to wash it off me, I disliked it that much. Its a pass for me.

Jeff Shin

An "Odd" type of citrus fresh frag. I mostly got a metallic lemon with sour musk. People voted lily-of-the-valley as the most prominent note but I got none of this and only got a harsh, sharp, astringent lemon juice. Doesn't project at all but does last. My least favourite from the Aqua series from MFK. Way overpriced IMO and personally prefer Aqua Celestia or even 724 over this expensive lemon perrier.

Panos Serras

I have almost all the fragrances from MFK house and I don’t know why but it’s my least favorite, imagine the smell when you drink a cold soda, nothing interesting about it…

LizMango

Laundry suds, citrus, white florals. Not a sour lemon, one of those big sweet Meyer lemons. The scent itself is not sweet. Airy, fresh, and clean. This doesn't smell like you've been cleaning house, this smells like you're rich and wearing new clothes. My husband and I both wear this in the Summer. Lasts 3.5 hours on my skin. MFK has said before that people assume his best seller is BR540, but it's not- it is Aqua Universalis. Full bottle worthy. Perfect for the office or anytime you want to feel good about yourself without being too obnoxious. For those other times, BR540 lol.

bintTapputi

I got a used one for extremely cheap, and what I paid is what I would deem it worthy to pay having smelled it. Perfectly fine laundry scent. And I mean laundry. This isn't just soapy and clean, in fact I don't really think it's all that "soapy", it's laundry detergent. Musky musky musky. Actually toss the laundry, I think this is what aliens think humans smell like. This is like pure alien baby smell. 'Clean' and 'pure' without any human intention. It's genuinely not bad in anyway, I have lacked for good clean scents, so I appreciate that it joins my collection. I think with a little resin, or some kind of wood, it would transform into something really lovely. On it's own it makes for a great fragrance in hot weather, at the gym, or on the go.... if you can get it cheap enough. 7/10

edit - the dry down is extremely lovely. flowers and sweetness come out and transform the shapeless clean it once was into a very beautiful skin scent.

MsLittlejohn

This is a lovely, fresh laundry scent. As a laundry detergent, this would be all I'd purchase. It just too literally smells like laundry. Lol! A scent I adore when actually washing clothes. Love it in the air. Not as a perfume, though. Ridiculously overpriced for what's essentially the smell of Tide on steroids! I'm using the sample I ordered in my diffuser, perfect for that.

gretta

I just received this today.
Absolutely gorgeous.

EDIT: I have a huge (engraved lol) bottle of this and I don't find myself reaching for it. Message me if interested in having my bottle.

cadentsun

What a lovely, effervescent, citrus spritzer and laundry-clean scent. Immediately reminiscent of linens washed with Tide detergent, hang-drying in the backyard. The scent's edges are soft despite the great potential for citrus and white florals to be too sharp, acidic, astringent. The sweeter musk at play really does a great job rounding it all out, without ever becoming the slightest bit puffy or stuffy. It's about as natural and attractive as a freshie can be IMO, the only misfortune here being that I've already got a bottle of D&G Light Blue doing the job well enough.

LayAmanda

Nice lemon with water, and a bit white floral scent. Smells like clean and pure, just as right after fresh shower. The trail is not boring and I prefer base notes more that show musky and lily-of-the-valley which softly touches the scent and make fragrance more abundant.
Meanwhile also it is unique, feeling slightly metalic or sharp tone as many Francis Kurkdjian's perfume has. Agreed for that it is luxury citrus fragrance, but the only flaw is the price I think.

Daisv

A spiced lemon club soda. Look at the Notes, they are dead on what this concoction is made up of. (Lily-Of-the Valley, Lemon, And Bergamot) as time goes on this develops into a sugary semi sweet skin scent. It's a pleasant airy, Out of the shower type of scent, smells fresh! It's an easy pick, but nothing to write home about.

AriaLennon

Fresh and citrusy fragrance with some green vibes which is a perfect scent for summer and spring. It's a very simple fragrance, there is nothing too special about it beside it being clean, fresh and uplifting :)

corgi02

clean and refreshing, smells like an after shower spritzer. Leans slightly masculine albeit mostly neutral. Still, I like things more feminine so I will pass this along to my hubby.

Gummybear002

It's good but overpriced. Freshness and quite white clothing. Citruse and Brisk tea undertones, smells of the ideal spring morning. Lasts moderately and people won't complain with this in the air.

aczwy

clean and uplifting, albeit a little forgettable. simple and linear; classic citrus + florals.

Bros89

It smells like a combination of dish soap and the stuff to blow bubbles with. Strong lily note. It's fresh but on the feminine side.

lemonshorbet

MFK Aqua universalis for me is kinda romantic citrus fragrance. Yes, it's citrus,, but its musky notes make it soft and airy.
yes, the scent itself really clear and crisp. It's a proper fragrance for a date in sunny summer daytime

Mouse011

So underated scent from MFK, everybody get it as a usual fresh scent which is similar to many others, and it's true but AU has a big dose of sophistication and beautines in simplicity which makes them one of the best fresh fagrance.
I like to wearing it during the summer, cuz is really easy to wear.
Kind of soapy but not boring or vintage soap, is perfectly modern, mild, clean, pleasant and deeply fresh.
Musky, creamy lemon without any sharp or bitter moments with just a touch of green nuance.

venusbruises

This is a really pretty citrus-heavy scent. Quite linear, but beautiful. Even though this is indeed an EDT, the longevity is very poor as it turns faint in an hour and almost completely disappears in two.

Edit: Re-testing this on a hot summer day and honestly I don't understand how a fragrance which costs this much can have such a poor lasting power. I sprayed four sprays 15 minutes ago and it is now completely undetectable! It is such a beautiful composition but the performance is just disappointing.

dsgnmind

I write my reviews for my own future reference.

Super nice clean sheets. A very lovely laundry detergent scent. I wish my laundry detergent smelled like this and not trying to smell like this. Crisp, clean. Wouldn't mind it as a gift to spray on sheets, but I'm not sure about its use as a fragrance for myself, not sure I would want others to smell of this when close or intimate.

Update: tested again almost a year later. Pretty much feel the same way (nice, sophisticated, fresh and clean) but it doesn't do much for me outside a daily fresh scent. Still wish my laundry detergent smelled this nice. Feel it lasted closer to 8-10 hours, but not 12. You're paying for quality and longevity here more than unique characteristics I feel. Bottom line it smells nice.

Cyllde

I appreciate how many fresh scents MFK makes but none have worked for me. Petit Matin was the closest but had no staying power on my skin. I also found that one to be the most feminine.
This is another unisex fragrance that leans masculine.
I'm a fan of lemon scents but the wrong lemon blended smells either sour/dirty or like a cleaning agent on my skin. This is smelling like a cleaning agent. It's unfortunate that a lot of cleaning products are "lemon fresh" because it makes finding lemon fragrances difficult.

markrsl

I bought a sample because i loved the name. From the 1st spray i immediately got perming solution which lasted throughout. Today i tried 2 sprays for the office and i couldn't tell if the cleaners over used the floor cleaner or if it was me, but i really don't like this smell.
It is noticeably sour and constantly takes me to a sweet toned down perming solution (which i loathe).

I expected an effortlessly clean fresh floral that was light & airy. But ended up with a smell i kept getting pulled back into that i wanted to escape. Perhaps it was just the sample.

lemonshorbet

My first MFK fragrance. It's a citrus and fizzy romantic fragrance. It's really citrous but getting softer through out the day. Good choice for dating at daylight, it's really refreshing, use it wisely, or somebody will get dizzy.
Longevity is a wow, I used it, while I'm getting too often washing my hand, but the scent it's still there.

Aland2020

Baby Asprin! That powdery orange candy taste that baby aspirin had, and I was given plenty of as a small child (Is this still around? Is it still considered safe? I'd never give it to my children personally...) in scent form. Then it dries down to a soft pillowy musk. There's green notes in between there, I would have sworn it was peititgrain. Perhaps its the bergamot + florals. I know my comparison to a medicine might give off the wrong impression of this scent, because as it wears on the skin and dries down it begins to smell much more natural smelling. I wish my skin or clothes could just naturally radiate this scent all the time. It's like MFK's take on Dolce Gabbana Light Blue. For the price I'm sure you could find something similar, if not better, but I discovered this one first so now that I have it, and it's a love, nothing else compares in my mind. I apply this liberally all over my body and find it lasts about 4-5 hours, the dry down coming just before the halfway mark. My wallet is concerned at how fast I might blow through this one. We'll see if my bottle makes it to Summer.

through the devil softly

Effervescent! So fizzy, just like those citrus vitamin C tablets you take in a glass of water.

There’s also chlorine and chemical elements to this one, but not in a wet and chilly or sterile or morbid way. As well as a peppy cleanliness, it has a cosy and well-tended soft sweetness. Even the bracing opening is more powdery and pleasantly foamy than anything stinging or sharp.

This scent brings to mind a thorough spring-cleaning on an airy morning, a matronly and kind domestic working in a private wealthy household, or a healthy freshly-scrubbed person chewing on sherbet lemons as they fill their washing-machine with powder or starch their sheets.

Though the scent has florals, they are inorganic, and their presence seems almost impossible to detect until hours have elapsed, and by that time the scent is only faint anyway (for the cost, the longevity and silage is admittedly awful). To amp the flowers and add some green grounding, I have enjoyed this scent more by layering it with Miller Harris Le Jasmin.

forestnymph

All I can smell is coriander (cilantro) - not even in a fresh herb kind of way, more like I've rubbed myself with wilted, soggy coriander.

ouimet

I'm one of those people who is allergic to cilantro, so it tastes like metallic soap.

The best way I can describe this scent is that it smells how cilantro tastes.

EvasFragrances

Very nice and fresh. I wore it a lot in the summer heat and while I don't think it would be good for a night-time event, I also used it a lot to feel refreshed before bed. I prefer Aqua Celestia more, but will use up my bottle during the coming spring/summer.

meama

it's pretty and interesting as long as the lily of the valley plays in the composition for the first 10 minutes then the scent collapses on the musks and the clean linen effect déjà-vu too often, boring and pretentious minimalism that tries to pretend to be luxurious. For this price you have wonders like Diorissimo, Eau Sauvage, Diorella, ...

Mizi

From the descriptions here I really thought I was going to like it. Clean and fresh - right up my alley. Turns out it’s so soapy and nauseating… that lily of the Valley takes all the crispness away! Garbage. Smells like that artificial/cheap/generic fragrance from The Perfume Shop. Couldn’t scrub it off fast enough. Yuck! (How much is it?!)

Lvee

Uplifting, clean and fresh, this is my absolute go to everyday fragrance - sophisticated and sexy, like a crisp white linen shirt. I wear it all the time. I even spray it on my bed linen. It’s so perfect and haven’t found anything else to touch it! One of my most complimented fragrances.

Controlledbyscent31

This really makes my stomach churn I hate this one

smellysmello

Aqua Universalis is an amazing balance of contrasts. It's clean and evocative of fresh linens but doesn't remind me of soap. It's citrus, but not sporty. It's soft and floral, but not particularly feminine. It's a unique scent that also feels really familiar. It opens with a bright aquatic citrus blast and then settles to a clean cotton floral musk. A really pleasant scent that is distinctive but not at all challenging. I'm a bit mystified by the many reviewers who get terrible performance from this - I put on a few sprays in the morning and can still smell it the next day.

MegWhite

It's exactly what it claims to be. Citruses, white flowers and musk. It's a familiar, rather generic scent. Like one of those cheap Avon eau de toilettes. The performance is poor and people can hardly smell it on you. In any case, it is gone in about an hour.

thisroseisforyou

Too much lily-of-the-valley in the drydown. Wanna get more floral -- get Lucky MCD, wanna get more cirtus -- get bergamotto di calabria AdP. Wanna pay more? This one.

Advaitaforever

you are on a luxurious Meditteranean getaway, I'm getting Cyprus vibes cause of the warm, herbal accords. The morning sun is pouring generously over you with a rising warmth as you inhale the ocean breeze from your balcony. You take a sip of icy lemonade and it quenches your thirst against the sweltering temperature. You are completely care-free and relieved from all responsibilities besides indulging yourself in a day of sun, swimming and drinking cocktails. It's perfectly unisex, but it does hint at being a fougere. I picture a fair haired, gentleman wearing linen in neutral tones. Lovely as it is, its totally not worth the coin, you can get the same effect from Bleu de Chanel .

intofolklore

MFK's description of AU being the connection between the air, skin, and linen is a very apt description. It is a beautiful, slightly feminine fragrance that one can easily become nose blind to. Horrifically overpriced.

oh my god this is my favourite so far out of gentle fluidity silver and baccarat rouge 540, i mean this feels like crystals of water dancing, it smells like minerals and soft musky oranges very comforting and perfect for any summer spring days, it does last a decent amount of time 8 hr give or take, but you do have to try it out 1st it is very specific to who this perfume might work for ... i want to buy this but it is sooo expensive and im still waiting for petit matin they say it is better but im still curious

Angel79

I believe the name is most appropriate for this scent. A clean, transparent, pure, calming and fresh scent. White flowers and touches of citrus blended majestically. Totally unisex and excellent performance in terms on projection and longevity.

whimsyandhoney

It’s a good scent but I’m sorry to say it just smells like a nice hairspray. Not worth the price tag to me. It’s certainly fresh and unisex though, which gives me CK one vibes but with less of that floral sweetness (don’t get me wrong they’re not dupes of each other just a similar feel). If it were half the price it may be worth it.

overtsaceie

I was blind to buy this one just because the notes were interesting. But it smells too floral for me than I expect way more citrus, the overall scent is the floral-soapy smell with a bit powdery. Its floral note stably projects all the time from top to dry down feels a little boring for me. Overall gives me a light floral that keep smelling very fresh, young, and bright. Can be more unisex if it had more citrus. Anyway I'm not a big fan of it but I rate 7/10

huet82

In the decant bottle, it smells like Pledge or some sort of lemony cleaner, but once sprayed, it softens immediatey. Light florals meshed with citrus, but in the high-end shower gel sort of way. Ends with a sweet and light musk. Leans slightly masculine, but is unisex wearable. Overall very soft and pleasant, but not a buy for me at this price point.

gedlive

Update: I purchased a bottle from Maxaroma. I thought I had old bottles in past where the Lilly of the valley and lemon had faded.
It was the same or worse. It is a white musc bomb. I don't get any floral or citrus, will return.
I once ordered a sample from lucky Scents, and it was great. Maybe they changed it, disappointed.
The Frederic Malle Eau de Magnolia is as I remembered this, when the lily of the valley and citrus were bright.

This was my favorite citrus/ white floral. Lilly of the valley favorite white floral, and high quality here.
One problem if you don't use your new bottle in a few years, the Lilly of the valley and 🍋 n notes fade, and it becomes too musc dominant, and unwearable for me.
I have purchased all my bottles of AU from eBay, so I imagine they could have been old.
If you purchase from MFK, Bloomingdales, or Lucky Scents, etc you may get a fresh bottle that will remain fresh for few years.

I have found a clone by Frederic Malle, it's Eau De Magnolia! It doesn't have the strong musc note AU has. I think it will stay crisp and fresh for longer than AU.

It's not sweet, and has a great lemon / bergamot citrus, with a strong and bright magnolia note.

So if you had the same problem with AU becoming musc dominant. Here's a tip, try FM Eau De Magnolia.

RisingChaos

Watery citrus opening further muted by white florals. Rather simple but actually quite pleasant. Very linear scent, not a whole lot to talk about here. I like it a lot, but boy is the performance nonexistent. Projects <2hr, longevity <4hr. Bad even for a typical freshie and definitely unacceptable at this price point.

Oli Omphalos

Looking at the notes and reading other people's experience with this, I was sure I was going to love it. Alas, it smells like bug spray to me. It does have a clinically clean feel to it, like a just-sanitized laboratory workbench. I don't mind that. I would've rocked that. That's my jam. But I just can't get past the bug spray vibe.

thetunez

Cute hotel hand soap smell

EQueen

I love this! It reminds me of China Rain, which was an oil back in the 70’s. Definitely unisex. So beautiful!! Not overly complicated or complex. Just light, clean, spring/summer, flowers and soap.

Woodynote

Really interesting experience with this one. For me personally, there really is no top/mid/base note experience - the scent is consistent and equal and quite simply just fades away. Almost like soapy detergent or dish soap in extremely hot, steaming water that slowly cools.
I find it interesting how diverse the comments on this one are, especially in regards to male/female. For me, it’s completely unisex, slightly more male.

istvan.buda.779

Love this one, it reminds me of Charlie white because the girl I used to have a crush on wore that perfume all the time
. Everytime i smell it i get vivid memories of her

stancusergiu07

I think this is how Haven smells like

fragem

I really love the smell of this fragrance (smells like Sprite but in a good and comforting way), but longevity is subpar. DG Light Blue Intense is fairly longer lasting which says something, especially given the steep MFK price tag. I recommend you go with Aqua Celestia instead of Universalis due to the much better longevity and improved sillage. Really wonder how Aqua Universalis Forte smells and if it is longer lasting. I would love to buy the Aqua Universalis detergent coming soon on the MFK website.

kirrineyears

Lately I have been craving fresh laundry-ish scents, probably because I recently moved to a more humid climate and am attracted to the smell of cleanliness. I wanted fresh linen and bang this is it. Crisp, fresh, citrus and super wearable. I like to spray this on all the time under other perfumes or just when getting out of the shower before bed. Really happy I found this! I have the EDT. The EDP is much more 'perfume-y' - stronger and more sweet - which is probably suited to being worn as a perfume in itself or for nicer occasions.

ej1520

Good

Allisonmsmith22

Smells like a refined freshie from the 90's. Not impressive

bdragonfly12345

Very nice! It starts off bright citrus, and mellows into beautiful light white florals. It's the smell of a bright spring day.

I get over seven hours of wear from this, and I love it! :)

Callista25

Citrus, lily-of-the-valley laundry musk. Good scent to smell clean but at such a high price point?

I know Francis Kurkdjian is a great artist. I really love some of his work, but the florals and aqua range from his house feel like the olfactory version of the visual artist who painted white canvases. Perfectly blended, high quality white canvases.

vgones

Oh this is my most favorite fragrance from the house of Francis Kurkdjian!! I would easily wear this anytime - morning, day, evening, even to sleep. I have body oil and shower cream, I like to use it esp after gym. It gives me some freshness and clean feeling. This is such a comforting, uplifting scent. I have the forte version but I prefer this one as the forte version is much more woody and powdery on me - but it has better longevity.

PS: I live in a tropical climate, with an average of 33-35 deg celcius during the day, and very humid. This type of scent is my cup of tea.

CheapFragHead

I'm a fan of unisex fragrances, but this one leans too far feminine for me. It's really well blended and smells like it was perfumed by Chanel. But it's a basic, warm weather citrus and floral scent and pretty boring. Nothing new, innovative or exciting here. I'm not a fan but my wife loves it so I gave it to her.

cocofluff

Opens as a watery lemon aromatic fragrance. Dries down soapy LOTV. I can understand why this was made into a laundry scent on MFK's website. It's the perfect ultimately clean floral scent without going too far into soapy and squeaky clean territory. Smells lightweight. Gone quickly, so I spray it on clothing! -

Itstartedwithtinkerbell

I fantasized for a year about the fragrance and how perfect it would be. I will say, yes, it is lovely...fresh, clean, just lovely. I get it. But the instant I sprayed my sample (an official MFK one), I got a split-second scent memory: in the mid 1980’s, I wore the original Jessica McClintock perfume, and this absolutely smells like it! This is a softer, more gentle version of that. It must be the common Lilly-of-the-valley note. I personally wouldn’t consider this a laundry clean kind of scent; it’s more floral to me. It’s lovely, but not what I had in my mind.

bourcet

Ugh, this is the most perfect fragrance. If you want a very understated "clean" without any agenda, this is for you. To me this is a universally unoffensive, clean unisex scent. If someone is bothered by this then they should probably wear a N95 respirator for the rest of their lives because how can you exist? Some say this skews feminine and while I can see that, it also reminds me a lot of "classic clean guy" fragrance: the subtlest remnants of Irish spring soap, Dep hairgel, Noxema, shaving cream. I guess there are fabric softener notes here but to me Bounce or Snuggle can be really cloying and artificial and there is none of that here.

Ugh I love, love, love this. It reminds me a lot of Byredo Blanche but BETTER; the chemistry is far superior and Francis Kurkdjian's genius really shows through with this.

partypooper

When it starts to settle, it is a very airy, crisp, almost pointed type of soapy, clean scent. Take your cleanest smelling scent and turn it up a a few notches. The typical laundry liquid compared to this is a heavy and dull type of clean scent. It is rough around the edges whereas this is polished to a smooth finish.

This is a pricey scent and it smells pricey without being vulgar. I just find it difficult to get over the sudsy, dish washing liquid opening. And unfortunately there's something lurking in here that doesn't quite agree with me personally. It might just be too clean?

As someone else mentioned, you need to give this time to develop before you make up your mind. Unisex but I feel definitely easier for females to carry.

This is what Mickey Rourke's John Gray character would wear. Did he only dress in black and white outfits? I can't recall. Anyway. Don't mind the rest of the movie, but you know that one scene where we see his closet - this bottle would fit right in that pristine wardrobe full of pressed and meticulously arranged white shirts. Precision and control. And clean.

catswearingperfume

This smells like extremely high-end laundry detergent in the most delightful way. Yes, there is citrus here, but it's not a high-pitched blast. It's all rounded out by the harmony of florals and one of the cleanest musks I've ever smelled. It's fresh, but it has a soft, fuzzy warmth about it.

I'm gonna have to hard disagree with the person who said this was masculine. I'm not into masculine scents on myself, and there was never a point where I questioned this one. I'd say this is unisex, slightly leaning feminine.

I think this scent is perfect for when you want to smell great, but want to avoid smelling too perfumey. It's office safe, airplane safe, car ride safe, movie theatre safe. It's also the perfect choice to wear around people who say they hate perfume.

And although I understand why people are calling this a summer scent, there's something about it that is comforting when it's cold. I think it's the fact that it really does smell like fresh laundry - it evokes crisp shirts and sheets in the summer, but in the winter it's a snuggly duvet still warm from the dryer.

Sillage is moderate. I personally get pretty good longevity out of this. The citrus note doesn't last very long, but that fresh musk lingers as a skin scent for hours.

I got this in a sample set I ordered from the MFK website, and immediately ordered a full bottle. I was on the hunt for the perfect clean laundry scent, and this is it.

garyg199

Disagree that this is definitely for men. I'd say it leans way feminine with how light and fabric softenery it is. Smells like a really really nice soap. That it

nordhaul

I mean I * like * it technically but I don’t like
The sillage, The cost, or The smell really so
I hit “dislike”, because I dislike it * for me *.
It smells like it’s for a guy FOR SURE. It’s
aquatic (I guess that’s same meaning as
“citrusy” 🍊 which is NOT mY cup of tea.)

Actually The sillage works since it’s for
The summer or humid weather, try it in
The humid heat those who complain it
“doesn’t last”. An uninteresting, easy
pass. ✋👎🏼🌊🐳🐋🤿🚢🏝🐠🐟

i2uby

This reminds me of a better and longer lasting version of D&G Light Blue. The aquatic and citrus notes are more intense and yet refined. It's fresh, daytime/work/date appropriate and I can still smell it on me after 8+ hours. I was worried about the orange blossom because that note usually gives me a headache but I couldn't really detect it in this EDT. I also love that lily-of-the-valley is the only floral note. I outgrew Light Blue after a decade of wear and this just rekindled my love for citrusy scents.

Djedi

If you want to smell like a high end fabric softener, look no further. It doesn't get any fresher than this. Laundry clean smell in perfume form. Slightly floral, extremely fresh. Nice musky base. Easily unisex. Not much to add here. Frankly way overpriced, but if you're a fan of clean scents, a must sample. Performance is quite restrained, longevity a couple hours.

7/10

Stwmylos

Indeed, this is a very soft and simple soapy fragrance.
It is very easy to wear and agreeable.
Very enjoyable overall, but at this price point, you just think it twice before buying it.

8/10

katsong

This is slightly sweet, really fresh, citrus and musk based fragrance. Unfortunately I find it extremely soft and I can barely smell it, even after 4 sprays. This is like an extremely refined version of CK One.

p.kalamaja

Extremely fresh fragrance. If you like something clean, then this is for you. It would be great anytime and even the office and would not be offensive to anybody. I love MFK

Kusuma_TH

MFK Aqua universalis a very pleasing fragrance and leaves the scent behind the person leaving the room. Although I normally don't like flower scents but this one smells good. The feeling of standing in a flower garden in the middle of the city, it is natural but at the same time proclaims that I'm perfume haha something like that.

a9a

This is a lovely effervescent citrus with light floral frag. Comparisons to fresh laundry are apt, because it's unfortunately gone as quickly as wind through line-dryed sheets. 4 sprays up each arm and onto clothing, gone like the wind within an hour.

Greggers

The first time I sampled Aqua Universalis, I wasn't impressed; it was "nice" but I had higher expectations. I thought the case was closed on this supposed linear, clean, simplistic scent. But part of me didn't want to throw away the cloud white cardstock the sample vial came with -- I wanted to give it a second chance. Months passed and I came across the story of Giotto's Circle (if you're not familiar, I highly recommend you Google it) Basically, this artist demonstrates his artistic prowess by painting a freehand circle as his "sample" of work to be considered for a monumental project. Aqua Universalis may appear to be overly simplistic and clean at first, but upon taking a closer look, the way it's blended and mixes with one's skin chemistry, it is truly exceptional. Only a master perfumer could pull this off. It's so realistically clean that I find it invigorating. Some may argue that it's not "beast mode" and has poor longevity. But that's not what AU is for -- it's a softer, refined, clean fragrance that doesn't seek attention and knows what it is; so too is the wearer, unassuming and self-aware. I find that Au is truly for universal wear, day, night, formal, casual, in all seasons, for all ages. AU challenged me to sense more deeply; I hope it does for you too. This one's a keeper.

yukitanonton

in tropical climate which is hot and humid like here in Indonesia, the EDT oddly works better and longer lasting indoor slightly cold from Air Conditioner, while the Forte one works better in high heat outdoor.

jerryyanis

'Aqua Universalis' EDT smells like fresh, clean laundry. Beautiful lily of the valley is the most dominant note, with some uplifting citrus. The scent is so pleasant, but I only wish it lasted longer on my skin. I much prefer the Forte EDP because of its improved performance.

doniking

I swear this smells like a designer perfume but i don't remember what it is.
Dior Homme Cologne maybe

Margarita Birda

Very nice clean and fresh scent. Unfortunately it lasts only a couple of hours. I also own the body oil which has a dissapointing smell not true to the perfume.

benji231094

Smells like fabric softener. Go for Burberry Touch instead, same vibe and tonnes cheaper.

JEDI 2.0

I ordered a 10ml of this and another MFK just to wear around the house, something uplifting that would brighten my day at home.

The moment you spray it is a nice blast of "white florals & citrus" and is very clean, just as all the reviews say. I do feel that this leans feminine in those first few moments, but not enough for me to dislike wearing it; quite the contrary. This is absolutely PERFECT for just wanting something clean, mild, something that makes you smile and go "mmmm".

The dry down of this really does smell like "clean laundry" but in a very sophisticated sort of way; it doesn't just generically smell like soap or fabric softener, but rather it retains that "white floral" vibe from the opening as the citrus fades and keeps the whole thing feeling very natural, very light. Other reviews touched upon "whether people would even think you're wearing anything or if you just naturally smell that clean" and I couldn't agree more.

This fragrance reminds me of Bond no 9 Hamptons, which itself has a sort of Mefisto aroma, but this MFK offering is the lightest of the bunch and I'd say probably the nicest for me personally. An easy 9 out of 10. Wow!

markextrae

Aqua universalis has one of the most clean and crisp smell i have ever put my nose on. The smell you’ll get when you’re drying new washed clothes outside on a warm summer day. The bright citrussy and floral opening fades quickly into a scent that reminds you of Classic nivea hand soap. But... as good as it is, i can’t find a reason to pay 140€ for a 90ml bottle from their website. It turns into a skin scent after a blink

Aventeros

Light, sweet, clean, fresh and warm. This is a great warm weather scent that reminds me of freshly cleaned laundry on a beautiful summer day. The citrus provides sweetness, while the musk and lily of the valley create a soapy undertone, which lingers throughout the life of the fragrance. The woods provide a warm base and complement the citrus notes. 100% Unisex. I think people will find this one polarizing, due to the cost and the somewhat generic scent profile. If you are an MFK fan, then definitely check this one out.

jytong

A light, clean and fresh scent that smells very generic. Likeable but not memorable. Poor longevity!

likesgoodscents

Light and breezy.. Fresh an clean. Just an excellent light (but long-lasting) carefree warm weather scent.

Lom

There is something about it that I don't like. It is sort of heavy despite being airy and fleeting. Not really clean, probably on purpose.

SNOOPY

This is as the other have said.
Light salty citrus for the beach.Although a man could wear it i find this to be feminine. It shares DNA with APOM homme whicjh they cancelled.
Very good but not bottle worthy at this price.

d_silent_one

Aqua Universalis is a sweet citrus, smells very nice and fresh. The only problem I have with it is that I can barely feel it. I have to push my wrist into my nose to be able to smell it, very annoying because I like the fragrance and want to be able to feel it, and at that price... geez.

Konga5000

I'm going through my sampler and forgot to give the dish on this one: This is a supreme oceanic smell! It open's like King Neptune vault -- citrus.. JUICY and pure by the beach--sparkling , rich , playful. It does simmer down to a hyper-realistic "sea spray smell" that, truth be told, smells like a high end version of Demeter Salt Air . Before I actually smelled Salt Air, I never really got a fresh-on-the-beach smell from anything making that claim. Both smell like a wave has crashed and the sea spray dangles on to your nostrils. The only issue here-- is that -- longevity seems too short for a $300.00 bottle of sea fizz. Again, the Kurkdijan house seems to follow the CREED blue-print a bit: Dazzle them with an opening that can spin heads - morph a bit & dry down without making any noise. Still, this is special enough to SAMPLE if you love the feeling of being by the sea even when you're in an office cubicle.

watchaka

At first spray, I get Sprite. As time progresses, I smell a slightly sweet, transparent floral. Reminds me of when the Sprite has been sitting in a cup for a couple hours and loses that fizz. I prefer this one over the FORTE; I find the forte version to be screechy, tangy, and acidic.

catix

nice, clean, easy to wear - the 'one size fits all' sort of perfume, at least during summer.
the opening is a bit harsh for me, the dry down soft and delicate. longevity unfortunately not so good on my skin, I wish it were lasting longer.

Skywarp

Not sure what to feel about this one. Yes it's just very soapy and clean. But this is not as wearable as other soapy scents in my opinion because this smells like laundry detergent plain and simple rather than body washes. So you won't smell like you took a shower, more like the T-shirt you put on that you washed yesterday. I won't wear it because it can come off as a stingy and Sharp detergent smell that can get quite nose piercing. But i bought a full bottle to use it with my fabric softener. Gives my clothes a better smell than any of those cheap grocery store detergents. 1 spray for a light wash is enough so it will last you a long time for this kind of use.

The EDP offerings from MFK have amped up floral notes which makes them feminine in my opinion, but this one is just right and well balanced that smells like unisex laundry detergent.

xDaKoTa1

This smells like fresh laundry, for one hour... Since this is $300 you might as well just wash your clothes, the smell would last longer.

robban.oberg

This perfume is perfect to use when you are traveling, at work, and situations when you don't know which perfume to use. Maby doesent work so well in dark cold days, but other days it will be fine.
Very clean, and fresh, no one will complain and maby no one will give you compliment but people will for sure think you are a fresh and clean person.

gedlive

I got a great deal on a 200 ml bottle a few years ago.
One thing I learned with this great fragrance, is that the citrus and Lilly of the valley fade very quickly now.

I bought the bottle slightly used on eBay.
So I don't know how old it is.

But with citruses and florals like lily of the valley, may have a shorter shelf life of 3 years.

After the first 15 minutes, the floral and citrus fade a lot, and it becomes mostly a white musc scent; not so great.

So unless you use this a lot, it may not be wise to get a large 200 ml bottle; unless you will use it up in a few years.

PS: A seller on eBay just told me the shelf life only starts when you first spray your bottle...
I think that is only part true. When you spray a bottle, air gets in, and it ages more quickly.
But I think a fragrance can go flat, after 3-5 years on the shelf, as Aqua Universalis, with the citrus, and delicate white flowers, balancing the musc.

I just left 150 mls of a 200 ml bottle in our mail room for anyone who wants it. I smell too much Musc now, and it would spoil my impression of the good AU, when it's fresh and balanced.
I bought my bottle used 2.5 years ago, and I don't know how many years the original owner used it.

natashastri

The first spray is fresh cut citrus bomb. And then I notice the familiar smell of Nivea Creme which I always wear after shower. It's like I'm taken to a sunny beach, smooth sand between my toes, and the sea is calling out my name. You're like wearing a Nivea sunblock, or any lotion. This perfume is clean, soft, light, and modern.

PolarBear2

When testing you need to give this time to grow on your skin. It didnt work well on mine. It had a urine-like phase and I scrubbed it off.

phongbach

The lily of the valley in here dominates the throughout the whole life of the scent. It reminds me of Tauer Carillon Pour Un Ange without being too harsh and cold. Maybe to other people it smells like fresh linen and clean skin but all I get is a wonderful and pleasant lily of the valley. The longevity is quite good for a fresh scent maybe due to the floral note.

skyelightfetish

Aaaaand, another pleasant but unremarkable classic citrusy/aromatic cologne sold at premium price point. As with the ELdO Cologne, this is a great scent which in no way justifies its price (unless you don't need to justify a price of anything).

chokthiwa

Aqua Universals is now my current love from daytime gym time until bed time. Before I met Aqua Universalis, Aerin Waterlily Sun was my No.1 daytime scent. I love waterlily sun. It is airy, light, fresh and good quality. But I always feel that it is missing something. Aqua Universalis is a completed also better longevity. If you love the sunny air dry laundry feeling, you will never go wrong with Aqua Universalis.

bugsyiii

As many have suggested, this is a great fragrance however...a great fragrance for the ladies. I am not sure if this is woodsy or musky enough for a man to wear. Once sprayed, I gave this a little time to settle and although nice, the clean, citrusy, laundry brightness gives this a very linen type freshness that I think, better suits a woman.

Unfortunately, I will have to pass; I enjoyed my moment, however, will let others bask in its glory!

Heifrank

This is better imo than forte version. The auf is too much flowers while this is more balanced.

neonaya

Reeeaaly nice perfume! Citrus fresh. Like Jour de Hermes, but not overwhelming if you occasionally put it too much :)

chanka

Ok so i will be probably only one who don’t like it

Citrus and lili of the valley and jasmin even not listed

It tooks me 4 hours to remember which perfumes it reminds me

Aerin Lauder Ikat Jasmine

After searching in my mind what it smells like (my guessed were hermes or d&g light blue)
but it is AL

It has something that bother me... both of them ...
It can be lili as this I know botter me in every perfume

bbrito

This is my signature scent for various reasons. It is the one that introduced me a couple years ago to the "niche/higher end" world of perfumes.
First time I smelled it I immediately loved it because it was so clean and different...and yet it reminded me of something (might be a memory of some sort) I couldn't stop thinking about it I had to have it. For me this one changes on every occasion, sometimes it's more floral sometimes it's more citrus.
Perfect for the summer weather year-round we get here where I live.

I can use it day or night, any occasion, always seems to put me in a good mood.

My most complimented perfume I have.., would consider it a safe blind buy. Go out and try it if you haven't yet.

Edit 1: my roommate says he can smell it from downstairs

missk

As Australia swelters through yet another scorching Summer, I have found myself reaching for light, citrusy scents as a means of coping with the heat. Aqua Universalis was one of the first fragrances from Maison Francis Kurkdjian that called to me. Available in a generous 200ml bottle, this is one fragrance I would happily spray with reckless abandon during the Summer months.

Aqua Universalis is slightly similar to Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino, however, the drydown is muskier and cleaner. Orange and bergamot are the most dominant notes to my nose, followed by orange blossom and white musk. It's an uncomplicated scent; easy to understand and wear.

In my opinion, the less complex, the better when it comes to Summer fragrances. It meets the criteria for keeping one smelling fresh and crisp despite the unrelenting weather raging on outdoors. Perhaps the only downside to this fragrance is its relatively high price tag. However, with that being said, it could be well worth it if intending to make this a signature fragrance.

I do enjoy wearing Aqua Universalis, especially as it reminds me of chilled water with a spritz of lemon, (super refreshing on a hot day). As where I live has only hot a few months of the year, I honestly wouldn't purchase Aqua Universalis as I don't think I'd use up a full bottle during my lifetime, but if I ever moved to a warmer climate I would definitely re-consider buying it.

maxwellish

The most complimented fragrance of my life. Ever. Hands down. It is truly a masterpiece and exactly as it is marketed/described. Somewhere in between a shower and fresh linens, and always making people think "is he wearing something or does he just smell that good naturally?". It is the citrus floral by which I judge all others. But there are two reasons that stop me from repurchasing. It doesn't last, and the price. I've had the small bottle, the BIG bottle, and purchases the travel sets twice, and enjoyed every second of it, but looking back this is sooo overpriced. And I only get to enjoy it for about two hours. Maybe if I was loaded I would continue using this. Such a shame that the most beautiful fragrance in the world is so fleeting. Truly breaks my heart.

Bubbles1964

The opening was promising and something I've been hunting for: beautiful citrus notes. I also picked up a little bit of the lily, but none of the woods. I've been looking for the signature summer scent, but after an hour all I got was a very faint musky laundry detergent scent.... emphasis on very faint. My skin just ate it up. Oh well, my search continues!

lukewarmilk

"I tried Aqua Universalis Forte today the opening was really pleasant reminded me of something my mom would spritz my clothes with as a kid for special occasions which is great cause I'm a sucker for anything nostalgic. The mid however was a big let down outta of nowhere came this harsh grassy note that smelled like hair removal cream really nasty to my nose. After about 4 hours that awful note dissipates. The base smelled like expensive shampoo simple and clean. Both longevity and projection were excellent. It was nice to get that nostalgic feeling even if it was just for a short period of time."

Above is my review of Aqua Universalis Forte and everything that I didn't like about it thankfully wasn't there in Aqua Universalis. Aqua Universalis was the fragrance I wanted Forte to be no sharp grassiness no hair removal cream just that perfect memory trapped in a bottle. The projection in Aqua Universalis is actually better than Forte but the longevity is about 6-7 hours where Forte gives me about 10 hours. I would take Aqua Universalis over Aqua Universalis Forte anytime any day this goes to show you that just because a fragrance is more concentrated doesn't necessarily make it better try things for yourself then decide; don't judge a fragrance by its concentration hehe.

rbalkris

Review based on a sample received. A clean watery crowd pleaser with the right notes of lemon, lily of the valley, begamont, wood and musk. Nothing really spectacular to earn all this praise ( smells like laundry detergent as many have noted) but has a safe inoffensive sweetness that may resonate with undemanding connoisseurs and those looking for moderately noticeable scents. All in all a safe buy if you want something nice and nondescript. I will pass.

This perfume is made for spring (and summer). I have a pure essence of lily of the valley, and when I smell it, it is similar over 90% with Aqua Universalis.

This perfume is a rare perfumes that is used lily of the valley in dominant notes...

Most of the men prefer bitter perfumes vs sweet ones. I said that if you (man) wear this perfume only for your enjoyment, test it before buying due to white floral and sweet notes. and if you (man) wear Aqua Universalis only for attracting women, blind buy this one!!

wild_radish

Aqua Universalis is like your lover's plain white t-shirt hung out to dry on the line, washed and worn a thousand times and held closely to the heart.

Airy and crisp like the ubiquitous "clean linen" note but with the added depth of musk and sun-bleached wood. According to my nose, that translates as skin. Dry skin in the sun many hours after bathing. Not sweaty, just briney and "lived in". Like your favorite hoodie or that old pillow that's falling to pieces but you just can't seem to throw it away. If it weren't for the intimate impression of one's birthday suit, UA might be a fragrance I would quickly overlook. It is, however, ultimately wearable and totally joyful.

First impression is lemon oil and white flowers. Then watery notes, more citrus, and finally musk and wood. The latter two linger and sit close to the skin. Low to medium sillage and longevity. This is not a powerhouse fragrance but something to wear liberally to the office, church, or anywhere casual.

Laurdess

Best smell in the world... and I have never gotten one compliment while wearing it.

miss mills

Lily of the valley plus lemony musk. I agree with everyone that this is a very lovely clean scent. This borders on cologne territory on my skin, from first spray to drydown is an hour at a real stretch (yes, I know, I know, cologne lasts far less time than that. Just saying, this is expensive stuff to have it blow away so quickly).

The LOTV is very beautifully executed, I do loves me some clean green lily! But ultimately this one is a little "meh" for me, possibly the sharp laundry powder musk aspect which turns me off. With all due respect, of course - the detergent/soap fragrance industry make some insanely good (and underrated!) scents and this is a great version on the theme, I just don't really want to smell like this particular one, will keep the lily however.

avalaitis

I have gotten a used larg bottle, and have become more aquainted with it.

I love the lilly of the valley opening, it is the dominant floral for the first 15 minutes, then it blends equally with the neroli.
Also the citrus changes, it's mostly lemon in the opening, then I get more of the orange blending in later.

So it has that basic cologne structure of Lemon, Neroli, Musc. As Francis Kurkdijian compositions are often things that are familiar and popular, with his own unique twist, and allways being of the highest quality and performance.

The unique twist to this cologne is the lilly of the valley making a floral accord with the neroli, the slight touch of orange and woodiness is nice and unique, reminding me of Hermes Terre de Hermes Fresh.

thespark

Along with Millesime Imperial, this is one of those fragrances that is so much more than the sum of its parts. You might look at the notes and think, 'yeah, been there, smelt that', but this smells like nothing else. AU masterfully blends citruses, light floral notes - mainly lily of the valley - along with some musk to add some backbone to the composition. Its both ethereal and tenacious, with great longevity; and like MI, it melds with your skin and gives the impression that you naturally smell this wonderful. It's a minimalistic fragrance, that is reminiscent of a remastered classic record, with all the pops and crackles removed, leaving just the music. I love it.

N.B. I really think this differs greatly from the Forte version, which I actually disliked. The Forte had an added floral note (jasmine), which made it both a lot more feminine, and heavy. It was a dense fragrance, that lacked the transparency that makes AU so special. I don't understand how many reviews touted the Forte as a summer fragrance, when personally, I think it would be too cloying for summer, whereas the regular AU is just perfect.

Kim673

Not for me. This fragrance is too masculine overall, for my liking.
I accept and am allowed, fragrance mistakes along the way. $168.00 at Neiman Marcus!

SuzanneS

Acqua Universalis is the crisp pressed white dress shirt of your fragrance wardrobe. I think we all need one clean scent. This is the best of the genre, and even has an accompanying fabric softener to boost he clean quotient in your life. Fresh, clean and laundered right out of a shower fragrance.

J9nine

This is a great spring/ summer fragrance! It is clean and fresh with citrus and musky accords. The musk in this scent is what keeps it grounded and makes it different from other citrus scents which tend to be heavy on the lemon. This is a unique cologne because it is blended so masterfully that it stands out. This is a must have in your collection, you will not be disappointed

gedlive

Great review by thespark above, yes, this is tenacious, and it reminds me of Milisme Imperial in that way, though it's more floral.
AU is masterful in how clean, and transparent it is. Some say it just smells like laundry soap. I very much appreciate a great anti-perfume as this. When you want something clean and beautiful, it's hard to imagine anything as nice.

I have been looking for a fresh white floral fragrance, that is truly universal and not feminine, and that's hard to find.
I am looking to buy Universalis.
I like lilly of the valley scent and it is very natural and clean in this fragrance along with the citrus, which is mostly a very realistic lemon, but with just a hint of orange that softens the lemon with a nice fruity tone. This will be a great warm weather frag.
I did purchase this, and it's a favorite fresh fragrance. I like the simplicity of two clear distinct notes lemon and lilly of the valley. The quality is high, and those two natural essences are so enjoyable, God given, and don't need much embellishing.
The orange blosom, musk, and woody nuances are a great addition also. The nice woody notes with the musk are what you get mostly in the drydown.

It has been a while since I finished my sample. At first I thought it was to simplistic and slightly leaning feminine. Now I have changed my mind. Some of the simple fresh fragrances by MFK have hidden subtle accords that can take a while to discover, like in Petit Matin...

I think the beauty is in the simplicity here. The lilly of the valley is not embellished to be more feminine, it stays natural. This is an unusual fresh fragrance that can be worn by a guy, who likes something fresh and floral, yet remains gender neutral and universal.

I remember when I found Dior Cologne, it was simple and immensely enjoyable, but it was too sweet looking to appeal to the young mass market. Universalis is similar to Dior Cologne with no sugar added, just all natural
goodness.

PS: I am finding good deals on eBay, and buying back up bottles. This is a masterpiece of a fresh fragrance.
Francis Kurkdjian became famous as a young parfumer when he composed the darring " Le Male" a masculine floral, where the flowers were covered over with cinomon and spices to try to be more masculine. Even the bottle was in the shape of a male body so no one would mistake it not being masculine.
This frag sparkles and pops with beutifull lilly of the valley and orange blosom, and lemons. This is a beautiful shimmering fragrance that is so natural and truly universal, no macho notes added, and no feminine softness added, just great!

no-fi

There's an ingenious conceit behind Aqua Universalis. Francis Kurkdjian has taken the famous 'aha!' moment of functional fragrances like laundry powder, and developed the key elements into a fully fledged fine fragrance.

But despite the niche pricing, there isn't a hint of haute couture here - the accompanying line of laundry powders and fabric softener nod to the fragrance's washroom roots. The result is a clash of high and low culture; clean cast as exquisite and exclusive, but also as a shared desire and experience. Aqua Universalis more than lives up to its name in the latter regard - it is a scent for all.

The opening is of beautifully fresh citrus, followed by one of the most exquisite lily of the valley accords I've smelled. The LOTV alone is worth the price of admission. It projects well for a couple of hours, before drying down into a musky skin scent. The LOTV recedes as the laundry accord takes over, and the overall composition starts to read more synthetic. Eventually, your skin will end up smelling like a well-laundered T-shirt.

Is Aqua Universalis an overpriced detergent in a fancy bottle? Probably. But you'd be hard-pressed to find a scent as knowingly critical of cleanliness, at the same time as exuding it. A masterstroke from a master.

blonc

If I had to limit my entire wardrobe to only five scents, Aqua Universalis would be one of them. It's THAT good. But it's not for everyone. It's not a "Hey, look at me!" kind of scent, so anyone looking for a projection beast that demands attention will be disappointed. Instead, this is the smell of someone who smells good. Really good. And clean.

Aqua Universalis is squeaky clean.

Citrus? Yes.
Floral? Yes.
Unisex? Yes, but...

...I can see how some might find this feminine while sampling it, but don't let that scare you off. It's different when worn. On skin, it becomes neither feminine nor masculine. Instead, it smells like a person who is clean and happy. Aqua Universalis is definitely a happy scent. In fact, it's downright joyful.

Aqua Universalis? Aqua Joyeux!

After the opening settles down, it wears close to the skin, but it lasts a long time and it clings to clothes in a really nice way. The musky base is clean yet playfully snuggly. Clean is sexy, and I dare say this scent is unexpectedly sexy. In the air, it smells nice. Up close on skin, it smells cozy. For me, that's a fantastic combination.

Very highly recommended.

akawanis

Citrus opening is drop-dead gorgeous, and I love how the Lily of The Valley remains unisex, without the addition of heavy feminine florals (ex: Byredo / Inflorescence).

Longevity is surprisingly good, considering the poor reviews it's received. Specifically, yes, the citrus blows off. That's what citrus does. :-) But the LOTV and musk base are tenacious.

There's something in the middle notes that comes across as 'cardboard', along with amplified pool-chlorine (which always exists in traces) on my skin. This may be unique to me (as a swimmer), or something's up with the Needless Markup tester that I've been hitting.

As far as MFK citruses go, Aqua Vitae gets better mileage -- and preferable for winter. Will re-try AU in the spring.

oh my i really really love this fragrance. Aqua Universalis reflects cleanliness very well without making it smelled like detergent. calming and uplifting at the same time. i got the bergamot and lemon, they blend and complement one another in a very smooth and elegant way.
I can imagine lying peacefully in a beach house in a calm morning, enjoying the softness of the sheet on my skin, while listening to the waves
SUPER LOVE!

oilizer

Aqua Universalis (AU) is a floral scent with musky under tone. Citrus only supports the floral scent by making it more uplifting. Overall, the scent has a "clean sheet," almost feminine vibe. Dries down to gentle soapy musk (with emphasis on soapy, not musk). Definitely unisex fragrance that suits male slightly better than female.

The quality of ingredients are excellent with very natural feel to the scent.

This might sound like travesty to some and I feel terrible for saying this but AU smells like much much gentler, high class version of Abercrombie & Fitch scent that they spray in their stores.

AU is a nice scent, and compared to other soapy scents (Prada Amber pour Homme, TM cologne, and even CD Bois d'Argent), it has more class, and character (due to citrus) but I cannot fully enjoy it due to the constant reminder of synthetic cheap teen spray that I get. And given the price, I will stick with TM cologne for casual wear, and CD Bois d'Argent for upscale comfort wear.

Beautiful musky, soapy citrus scent. It's very fresh,This one has great longevity and the silage is amazing.i love it

TAP

Beautifully soft, smooth and fresh aromatic with prominent notes of citruses and lily of the valley; totally inoffensive, neutral and unisex, but for me ever so slightly too sweet to enjoy comfortably; pleasant sillage and reasonable longevity :)

Cybernoir

Truly beautiful, fresh, clean, but not soapy; opens as an aromatic citrus, almost a cologne feel, unisex, but not masculine. The citrus is neither sweet nor sour. There is a note that is green and refreshing, but with enough sweetness from the orange zest and white florals to lift the fragrance. Segues from an aromatic citrus to a fresh floral, a little lily and rose, and a little touch of something that seems a soft white floral, similar to orange blossom or jasmine, but fleeting and soft. Almost perfect for professional settings, attending a conference, anywhere where you want to be unobtrusive and understated, but wear a fragrance that can be easily felt by others, and will last hours. Good longevity, at least eight hours, and good projection- up to two feet, but still soft.

The musk is a simple white musk with a little vanilla tinge. Pretty, but not sweet or predictable, very lively overall, invigorating. The drydown is soft, creamy, woody and musky, reminds me of sandalwood, but is clearly not sandalwood, but is similarly creamy.

daynierds

This fragrance is pure class from the first moment you spray it on. Wonderful smell that makes you feel clean, relax and superior to those masses wearing generic garbage like the 1 million, invictus, eros, salvatore ferragamo AE, etc...It makes you clearly understand why you have spent a bit more of money...
Scent: 9 if not 10 out 10
Longevity: 7 (around 5-7 hours each time)
Projection: 6 (it is just meant to be this way...would you imagine a psychiatrist screaming at all of his patients?--- of course Not...the same analogy does not apply here)
Sillage: 7 better than expected
Versatility:8 Spring, summer, early fall...highy unisex as well
overall: 9 cause I just love it....
Spray on you cloths and it will last a bit longer...I usually wear 6-8 sprays..

gtabasso

nice light summer fragrance that isn't really anything special and is more of a masculine cologne with citrus, hint of floral and hint of musk. No notes really stand out other than the citrus top.

DHIguy99

This is really good stuff. It reminds me of the AUF but without the powerful white floral note. I just wish this was a bit stronger. It isn't really going to jump off your skin but people will be able to smell it even when you cannot. I usually get about 8 hours on skin with this. Projection is about 2 hours that I can smell but I have had people comment on it after 5 hours into the wearing. If you could only buy one summer fragrance I think this would be a good choice. It's refreshing, light, and smells excellent. My only kick is that I wish it was more powerful. I have a 10ml decant of this and I also have a travel kit of AUF which I prefer due to its strength.

I do pride myself on my taste. I guess you can say I have 'expensive' taste and a part of me is embarrassed by it because my family picks on me more often than not about how expensive my taste really is.

But as I grow I realize that I do not need to apologize for the things that I enjoy in life. there is no handbook for this journey we are all on—and if we do find happiness somewhere—who's to say that is wrong while others are right.

I find great joy and happiness in perfumery. This particular fragrance has surprised me in the amount of joy has given me . I would consider this fragrance extremely uplifting as the notes are pure and energizing yes soft and sweet and utterly intoxicating and that is a word I thought I would never use when describing a clean fragrance.

This has made me a citrus believer . Typically citrus fragrances are one of my least favorite aside from very powdery perfumes. I received this in the mail today with low expectations—typically I prefer fragrances that are indulgent very Jammy etcetera. I smelled this perfume and was instantly in love. And I believe when it comes down to it, it's about quality and care and Artistry and expertise . I will love any perfume that is done right and has been created from an artist who may be masterful all of his work . a Picasso is beautiful no matter what it is because it's a Picasso. I consider this a masterpiece. It's a privilege to have in my collection.

jacobbonilla

I had a luckyscent sample that was forgotten about, that is until I saw Marc's (robes08) youtube review on this a few weeks ago. So I decided to pull it out and finally see what its all about, and wow! this is an amazingly pure, bright, Fresh and sparkling citrus rounded off by a slight sweetness due to the lily of the valley. Considering I just had a baby girl that was a premie so shes still in the NICU. I thought this is the perfect scent to wear when I go see her. Very non offensive, in fact it has a sort of has a baby fresh feal to it. So not only do I absolutely love this scent, but it's now associated with my baby daughter so it's extra special . I had to buy a 200ml bottle from Luckyscent.
Scent I give a 10/10... Projection is within arms length, better as you heat up... Silage is nice, leaves a decent trail... Longevity is better than expected for such a citrus fresh scent, about 6-9 hrs depending on the situation.

dlane1953

A fresh, sheer, and airy warm weather fragrance that lifts the spirits. Unlike most citrus EDTs, the touch of sweetness brought in by the addition of lily of the valley and mock orange makes this a slightly softer version of usual bracing colognes. Unisex, moderate silage and moderate longevity, 8 hours on me, befitting an EDT formula.
Notes: Bergamot, lemon, lily of valley, mock orange, woody notes, musk.

Elysia

To me, it is the same experience as with A la rose also by Maison Francis Kurkdjian.
I tried it and while I cannot say that the idea is groundbreaking but the execution is flawless. The notes blend together creating a true scent experience instead just smelling nice/ok. I'm ready to pay more for it. Either my nose is more sophisticated or I became a perfume snob, I don't care I just love this lightweight, uplifting citrusy breeze of a scent.
It is similar in vein to La Chasse aux papillons by L'Artisan. I recommend it to be used in warmer weather.

hellok

The most clean, laundry-fresh (in the best way possible) scent. I typically stay far away from fresh scents. Give me heavy ouds with animalic undertones all day, everyday, but this was a stretch for me to try to find a "fresh" scent that I could enjoy. Though the notes listed would make you think bathroom cleaning supplies, the scent is really fluffy and light, clean and non-offensive. Perfectly balanced unisex and lovely. It's exactly the kind of scent you'd imagine you could wear on a date, to the office, running errands, or day to day. It's very versatile. Lasts about 5 hours and smells more mature than I expected. Great quality and I love it.

kousuisei

A very clean, fresh scent! Very light and long lasting. To me, it seems very linear though. The scent does not develop much from the beginning to end. Not necessarily a bad thing - great choice for the day you want to "rest" your nose a bit.

Eaugirlspirit

Since I've taken a job a mere 15 minutes away from a mall with a Neiman Marcus Department Store, I often will go in after work to check out the latest Jo Malone offerings, or chat with the Sales Associates about different fragrance houses. It is always so exciting to see such a glorious array of the market's finest fragrances in one store, having never really been inside a Neiman Marcus more than 2-3 times in my life. This department store happens to sell Francis Kurkdjian fragrances. I knew Francis was a nose because I am a fragrantica member, but until I strolled into the store that day, I had no idea he had his own line. My SA was kind enough to let my take home samples of Acqua Universalis, Amyris Femme and Feminin Pluriel.

My favorite was the Acqua. I don't care what anyone says about this; how it has been done before, how you can get a dupe for cheap. Personally, I have never smelled anything so exquistely fresh and beautiful in my life! This fragrance has superior construction and quality ingredients and its notes lift and sing off my skin. It has longevity and sillage in the most sophisticated way. It is like breathing in the freshest lemonade and fresh cut grass and lily of the valley all at once. And suddenly it's all I need in that moment and I just focus on the moment. And that's the beauty of perfume, when it can directly let you appreciate and desire the very moment you're in, the moment in which your nose is encapsulated with the aroma of beauty.
Having said all this, I am still trying to justify buying a full bottle, but I know that I could save up for this and then it would be a little better. The Tom Ford Cafe Rose was the most expensive fragrance I've ever bought and that was for my 30th birthday.

muzzbait

reviewing this blindly (without knowing the individual components)...

there's a dominant citrus note which is sweet and dainty. it's sweet enough for me to say it's orange or mandarin (not lemon!), along side something quite white floral, maybe tuberose? maybe jasmine? i'm not that good with my white florals, so it's probably neither of these...

a lot of MFK's work tends to fall in the same basket in that you could be forgiven for mistaking one for another. this one right here smells like 2 or 3 other MFK offerings and in saying that it comes across 'familiar'.

this is more on the side of feminine, but in saying it a bloke could pull it off, but not as well as a woman could.

all in all, totally NOT for me, however it is amazingly potent, long lasting and of high quality. most certainly worth a try...

YOUR GO-TO JEANS

This well done Citrus+Musk is something you throw on with your knock-around pair of jeans when you want something casual, fresh, and easy.

Can a fragrance be remarkably simple yet at the same time be so well crafted as to offer a subtle complexity?

The name is right-on. Universal Water. Yep - most certainly is.

dkbjlb5

At one time I would have said that no one could make a fragrance that I would like, if it was meant to be gender neutral. I tend to like florals and other sweet fragrances that not many men would want to wear. Then I received a sample of Acqua Universalis. When I first tried it I was not impressed. Then, at the dry down, I began to notice a beautiful, sexy fragrance. I looked around, trying to decide who was wearing it so that I could find out the name of this intoxicating fragrance only to discover that it was me! Now, I am a believer. It may not be for everyone but it loves my body chemistry!

jhitt793

Released in 2009, 'Aqua Universalis' was a part of the Maison Francis Kurkdjian brand's original collection. The fragrance opens to an amalgam of eye-opening citrus and delicate white florals. Sicilian bergamot and lemon intermingle with sweetly scented muguet (Lily of the Valley) and fragrant mock orange flowers. The effect is gossamer-like and euphoric. I imagine this smell permeating the baptismal font of an infant's christening. It is chaste, delicate and pure. The mock orange radiates a jasmine-like scent, along with a touch of orange blossom notes. The opening citrus-floral accord is breathtaking in both its artistry as well as its restraint. The base is subtle and comprised of "light and musky woods". I can't help but suspect some synthetic artistry here on the part of Mr. Kurkdjian, as I'm unable to pick out any distinct wood notes. Initially the sillage is very strong, but after the effervescent top notes scintillate away the fragrance lays quite close to the skin. During the warmer months this fragrance really soars, and becomes an absolute stunner in Spring. Longevity is moderate to weak, and may need reapplication throughout the day. Fortunately, the fragrance can be layered with the 'Aqua Universalis' scented shower and body creams available from Maison Francis Kurkdjian, which will definitely prolong the life of the scent. One cannot miss with this elegant and intoxicatingly fresh scent!

To me, this smells like... nothing.
This is only a musk-synthetic bomb.
No citrus, no zesty. It's like a mild soap.

Longevity is around 5-10 mins and sillage... does not exists.
Maybe for 10$...

racb

I just love it. Zesty, fresh and lightly floral. It settles down to something herby and dewy. If I could waft about in this all day, fresh from the shower wearing white linen, life would be perfect indeed.

***PLEASE NOTE: EVERYTHING I've said below about the Forte composition, likewise applies to Acqua Universalis with one VERY IMPORTANT DISTINCTION.... Aqua Universalis accomplishes very much the SAME THING other than that somewhat feminine floral note (the result of the Rose/Jasmine combination). Nevertheless, that fresh out of the shower, laundry-vibe, fresh, crisp, clean linen blowing in the air remains very much consistent & highly addictive....

IMAGINE: Stretched out in your Cabana or lawn chair in your backyard on a cool late spring-mid summer afternoon..... There is a gentle cool breeze blowing and there are beautiful whites hanging on a clothesline very close to you, projecting the most amazing/refreshing high-end fabric softener so appealing to your nose......you like? Well, this is Acqua Universalis a Forte to the Nth degree!!!

Right off the bat you get a powerful, yet not overwhelming blast of sweet, citrusy lemon. Right away, it is followed by a soft, uplifting Jasmine/Rose combination.... For me, this is pretty much what you'll get throughout the entire duration of the fragrance.... Sweet, crisp clean linen is what you get. Even when the fragrance has completely left your skin, you'll simply get a soft Woody, musky scent....

Sprays: I go 4-6 sprays... (2on the chest, 2 on the neck and one at the top of the head). This might sound a bit outrageous to some of you, but although this fragrance is somewhat heavy;ironically, it doesn't project all that well. What I found truly unique about this (few fragrances have in common is): while the projection is not that great, meaning it won't put anyone on blast or grab anyone's attention, it DOES HAVE excellent sillage... People will notice it, they will like it and they will know you've been there (kinda like "who was THAT"?)

LONGEVITY: 6-8 Hrs. I don't even count the drydown because once it starts to dry down its basically left your skin and is reduced to just a very soft woody musk....

OCCASION: Smart casual, an afternoon or early evening date..... At a party, engagement bash.., etc!!!

SEASON: Summer for me BIG TIME! Yes you can wear it during the spring and early fall, but trust me when I say this baby really sparkles brightly during those hot, humid summer days when you need that little something to perk you up. In this respect, A.U.F is very uplifting, very invigorating. It's like a bright light!!!

CONCLUSION: while it may not knock everyone's socks off I give this frag an overall A- or 9/10. I LOVE this scent in the same vein as the Forte version, however the Forte version gets noticeably HIGHER marks because FOR ME, that floral composition is done masterfully! It adds weight and depth to the fragrance and actually makes it sparkle/shine much much bright during those hit summer days when you wanna be uplifted. It is still very invigorating like the Forte version, and as a citrus does ALSIO perform admirably during its ENTIRE duration....

Certainly, I DO NOT recommend this for EVERYONE, but I actually own both this one as well as the FORTE version and enjoy them both.... (This one a but more so, when I'm in the company of friends and colleagues who themselves or their spouses have certain fragrance sensitivities. Francis Kurkdjian is a genius! :)

I've worn this 4 times and every time it's been the same - a beast.

I got a sample of it (don't remember from where at the moment, but I want to say it was Neiman Marcus). It is almost gone. I think I have like two wearings left of it and I look forward to buying a bottle soon. I'm going to dive into this the best I can with such limited usage.

Smell: My first wearing I could have sworn it was for a woman. I swore I was in a beauty shop. That's the kind of vibe I got from Acqua Universalis. I had almost given up on this one. Almost. The second time I got a little more from it. Citrus and musk. The beauty shop vibe was still there though. I just couldn't shake it. I couldn't understand why and it frustrated me. I'm glad it did because that's what motivated me to go for wearing number 3 and that's when everything just clicked. I could appreciate the fragrance. I wore it to work and could smell the florals, the musk, the citrus, and a very, very, VERY tiny hint of woods. It is just a pleasing scent to the nose. I haven't had a negative compliment on MFK AU yet. YET.
Rating: 9/10

Projection: 3 sprays and I honestly think I overdid it. I could have probably gone 1. I have been let down by some niche samples in the past so I went for the magic number - 3. I went into work smelling heavily of this stuff. I knew if I could smell it even after being on the job for 4 hours, I knew others could DEFINITELY smell me too. Most scents I get olfactory fatigue and can't smell after a few hours. Not the case with this one. I could and still CAN smell it while I type this review. I would recommend only 2 sprays. Trust me you don't need much. It's a highly concentrated fragrance.
Rating: 10/10

Longevity: It lasts for hours and hours. As I said on projection, it's still going strong on me and I've been on the job for 9 hours. It has the potential to last from 10 hours to even more than that. It has surpassed that mark twice for me. I was pretty happy on the performance.
Rating: 10/10

When to wear: Spring, Summer, Special occasions, Work.

Final score: 9/10. Get a sample and try it out!

Acqua Universalis, in my opinion, is a very fresh summery fragrance. I smell fresh lemon, lily of the valley, bergamot and a touch of musk. I got two compliments this morning at the grocery store. It is perfect for hot, summer days. Today I am wearing linen pants and a linen shirt, this fragrance just rounds off the look. On me it lasts 6-7 hours. Beautiful!

Extremely pleasant, clean and fresh, very feminine, just lovely!
The citrus notes are blended beautifully with Lily of the Valley, preventing this floral note from being too green and too soapy.
It's not overly citrusy nor is it overly floral.
Innocent, elegant, refreshing, clean and beautiful.
Sillage is soft, but noticeable, longevity moderate.

Agreed about the connection with L'eau by Lutens. It's like they use the same laundry, yet a slightly different fabric softener :) Really alike ones and launched the same year! And both quite expensive to buy or/and find! I love both though!!!

Definitely one of the best clean scent perfume created. Every time I wear it, my mood starts to change. It always brighten up my day and makes me feel so refresh. Light and Musky Wood indeed!

Boring.

Smelt good on the blotter card, so much so that I decided to try it on my skin.

Alas, it was rather dull on my skin. Another Terre d'hermes type scent (see my review of Xerjoff 1861 for another Terre d'hermes type)

I found it very similar to 1861 in the middle section but the dry down is different. 1861 is patchouli like whereas this remains on a lighter note; but it is just that, light. Light and uneventful.

Good for a fresh summery scent I suppose but why bother with the expense?

Just get some Terre d'hermes and be done with it!

When you wake up in a hot summer day and need to freshen up after shower, this might be the best choice you could make.
I hate almost every fragrance with a lot citrus notes. Citrus notes remind me cleaning supplies or bathroom odors and so on. But this one is so good. All I feel is relaxing freshness. Cools you down. It's kind of a masculine scent but the way it makes you feel clean and fresh is precious. Excellent way to start a day.

I feel like whatever Francis makes I'll love it anyway. I'm a huge fan. <3Francis

I tried it on a cool day and got a sweet caramel popcorn kind of feel that reminded me of dior blooming bouquet. I had hoped it would be a bit more special, but alas it's been done. That said, if you don't already own blooming bouquet, this is a great " fresh out of the shower" kind of scent. I have an appreciation for these types of clean smelling frags but I don't feel the need to own them all. Too bad it only lasted about 4 hours.

I prefer this one over the Forte. Although I do not find the Forte version to be necessary feminine or too floral, on me, Forte is rather dense and ultimately annoying to wear in South Florida's hot climate. This EDT version is very user-friendly with it's subtle airiness.

The following review is really for my notes only, its very brief and leaves out a ton of details. Im just typing something that I remember each by. Im sure I will disrespect someones favorite fragrance too.

High grade, high quality cologne. Nice but nothing interesting going on here.

Best perfume I have ever smelled that had the word "Acqua/Aqua" in it.Period.

WOW...

This stuff is the definition of clean. Clean as in you shower 5 times a day. This literally smells like you just got out of the shower and put on fresh clothes right out of the drier.

If you want to smell like you take care of yourself wear this and people will think your the cleanest person ever.

I honestly don't think of this as a perfume because it is so "shower/laundry" fresh.

Acqua Universalis is my Zen.

Soft, peaceful, refreshing, pure. The citrus is prevalent, but never sharp, there is a subtle sweetness that is perfectly soothing. The lily of the valley adds a sense of innocence, clarity, purity. This fragrance is more than the sum of its parts. It's a fresh cloud that embraces me, holds me up, gives me energy and focus, but neither distracts, nor overdoses. It's balance in liquid form.

Actually, if you go to the refreshingly simple and elegant Maison Francis Kurkdjian website, and choose to play music, you will hear, quite accurately, what I feel wearing Acqua Universalis.

have you ever heard the K.I.S.S. acronym?

this is a perfect example of that..
very simple and clean. at first you get an explosion of a lemony lily of the valley burst which is rather nice for me since i am not used to this kind of a fragrance. the notes are very well put together and it actually has a sweet infusion right off the first spritz. it could be some orange stopping by to say hi as it starts to split away from the top notes to the middle. (i love the smell of oranges)
also it does have a very fresh linen aspect to it..
kinda like when we used to wash our clothes and hang them up on a clothing line. this has that scent to it. like a sun dried shirt after a wash. "i grew up poor and in the country woods of florida" that's just how we did things round here. lol ;)~ anyways back to the review.

it took a couple hours for the musky woody portion to start to take you on it's tour through the scent. and slowly blends down to a musky orange cedar'ish smell
that last's for hours! when i first tested this out a couple weeks ago i noticed it stayed on my skin for a good 8-10+ hours. very faint but still there.

i think this is a great simple fresh and clean summer scent that anyone can wear that has good lasting power.

i give this one a 7.5 out of 10

* it's worthy of a sniff or two

Beautiful, light, breezy & classic. Floral without being too feminine. Citrus without smelling like juice or rinds. Lovely from beginning to end. The notes meld joyfully and beautifully together and it has been a pleasure to wear this perfume.
