Habit Rouge L'eau is a really nice fragrance. It smells fresh but also dated at the same time. It is a bit of a weird dichotomy of fragrances. This sadly is my only experience with the Habit Rogue line. No Habit Rogue, no Habit Rouge EDT, no Habit Rogue L'Extrat, no Habit Rogue Dress Code, etc.

I wouldn't say it is a creamsicle like others have said but you definitely get a citric blast up top. I cannot even say it is really bitter orange. I've smelt bitter orange before and it is sour and turns my nose. My worry with Habit Rogue L'Eau was exactly that, but it doesn't have the bite that I had before with bitter orange notes. It then goes into a balance of jasmine and nutty-ness from the hazelnut. The base is pretty much vanilla. I do not really get green notes from it.

I don't often wear Habit Rogue L'Eau. I feel for work it could be one that I'm told is cheap like say CK One Shock or one of the Alexandria bleu fragrances like Zion or Executive Order. My students are blunt on that. It is one I wear when I remember it. I keep it in my discrete tester box because I got a tester with no cap. Now it is nearly gone for good. If anyone has a cap for that, please let me know... Anywho, the bottle is nice, I can see why Jordace has similar looking bottles. The older Guerlain bottles are classic.

Habit Rogue L'Eau is good for warm winter, spring and fall wearing. If you are in a cooler environment than Arizona, I can see it working for summer. It just doesn't in AZ. You can wear this casually or on dates and in the office, if you know it wont offend people. Some noses are just sensitive.

Overall I do like Habit Rogue L'Eau. I'm sad it got discontinued, but I imagine that was due to not being good at sales. I know that Habit Rogue as a line went to the L'homme Ideal bottles as did Vetiver and I want to say L'Instant and Guerlain Homme did as well. Perhaps this will make a come back in that. Until then, I got 90% of the juice left on this 7.2 out of 10 fragrance.

The Fiddling Dude

Habit Rouge L'ea smells like an orange creamsicle, but also has some light florals and some sort of complex, unidentifiable blend of other notes, making it elegant. Its performance is subtle, but you can tell the ingredients are of high quality because the fragrance lingers on the skin, and light gentle whiffs emanate for several hours. Some of the heart notes cause it to lean in the masculine direction. This is a very nice scent!

loose_cannon26

Habit Rouge leau isn’t a rose amber vanilla, but a really nice, classy daily work scent. I really get the nutty notes but may be in a minority who gets this. I still get wafts after 12 hours after over spraying before I go to work. If your into Guerlain and can pick this up for a decent price, it’s worth adding to your collection.

Trueblood84

I find habit rouge leau to be exactly what it was intended to be. A lighter, easier to wear version of HR. However, I find that in making it lighter, the perfume had lost much of its character, and is closer to the guerlinade accord than to og hr IMHO. Its blended well, performs exceptionally, and still retains the classy touch that Guerlain is famous for. Overall I like Hr leau, it removes some of the powdery grandfather vibes, bringing a classic up to modern standards.

vrapjr123

Very floral. Very classy, and elegant. Projects well, for the first hour and half, and lasts long. Well worth your buck if you’re into citrus floral fragrances!

Deelecto

Happy to see this show up at discounters all these years after it was discontinued. I already have HR EDP but couldn't resist the price/rarity and ... it's lovely, but a very similar scent to the regular EDP (to me).

Update: With less rose and a lighter EDT concentration I have found it more work safe and summer-day appropriate. Intellectually I didn’t think I’d need both this and the EDP, but both have gotten tons of wear so what the hell do I know.

Spicey Pickled Ginger

I thought I was purchasing the edt, but mistakes happen when you don't pay attention. Luckily for me it was a quite happy mistake. I am LOVING the stronger lemon note with the absence of hay. So much so than I'm going to go grab some more before it becomes hard to find.

Cool Autumn Breeze

It smells good, but it also smells powdery and “experienced” if you catch my drift. I’ll keep it but probably never wear it.

Smells rightfully elegant at first spray, the oh so familiar but much lightened original positioned apparent and true. So far, though, after some days and heavy duty spraying, this very fine scent trails off and down far too quickly for my liking. Many obviously enjoy the subdued manner of this one, which is quite understandable, as the genuine 60's models are sugary rich enough to have folks gazing `round the airspace looking for who must be sporting the powdered wig. This is a winner despite the low key presentation, but I end up feeling teased to craving the full on dashery of those succulent prototypes which came long before.

Athanatos22

Love this one! It retains its classic vibe while remaining contemporary. Something that the other flankers from this line failed to give imo. Really a staple in my collection.

tedi6669

Good one, rose haters approved :) there's something like rose but probably is that jasmine. Easy to wear nice modern retro quality juice.

Mystères du Château de Dé

The citrus top is unusual - creamy and has the touch of vanilla. It smells like Italian lemon curd and it's not that sweet. This is the kind of classy little gift that would delight anyone. I stumbled over 50ml bottles on an online discounter, so I bought one to test. You know the rest of the story. Loved it, but now they are gone. Blind buy safe - put an alert on any seller that sometimes stocks it. Acqua di Parma Vaniglia is so pricy and this little gem cost me $30. One of life's small pleasures.

Caldrumr

A bright and summery version of the original - less sweet and dense, and more light and airy.
This scent is absolutely gorgeous.
Citrus and green, floral vanilla. I love it.
I love it more than the others in the line, in fact. Wonderful.

WGG

Don't care much for the original but this is really (really) good. Spring in a bottle and a fragrance which makes me smile. Moderate performance but I don't care!

Being a woman, I like it for me, as my husband uses the original EDP. It’s more simple, citrusy and vanillic but not too intrusive, with a lovely Shalimaresque dry down. After several hours I even get something of the Initial. Airier with the right summer ice cream freshness. Gender free, interesting if you enjoy sharing your bottles.
HR is quite loud, so I’m happy with this delicate reinterpretation.
Watercolor ? Yes why not. Keep laughing reading the reviews proudly mentioning that ‘l’eau’ means water. Ok. And EDP means EAU de Parfum, EDT means EAU de Toilette. Water again. Great discovery. But by buying Habit Rouge l’Eau (most of us are funnily torturing its spelling), I was quite sure to have an emphasis on the fresh splashy side.
On a male skin, it’s easier to use at work than the original, particularly when the weather is sunny and warm, but it’s still assertive and extremely classy.

SmellMyCheese

I've had this for a few years now and I've always liked it (though prefer original HR). It has a good vanilla-citrus-white floral thing going on and is a bit less powdery and more fresh than HR.

I only just realised this as I'm wearing it tonight and picked up AdP Vaniglia not long ago...they are quite similar to each other. This is a bit fresher citrus and the AdP is quite a bit stronger on the vanilla and jasmine but if you've smelt either of them you have a good idea what the other one smells like.

Good flanker that can still be found at good prices if you look around.

vdxl

Well done, checked. But I don't feel like I'm talking about a Habit Rouge edition. It misses the powdery-floral aspect, the vintage feel, leaving only some citrus and plain vanillic notes. It's good value, but more in the veins of Acqua Di Gio & team. The lasting power is ok, the sillage ok- I have the vintage version- not the repackaged one having the same color as the original. When hearing about hazelnuts, I was expecting some Very Irresistible for Men/ Angel vibes, but I got none. Mixed review for me, but definitely a good release!

clintjr82

Very well done and pleasant. Vintage and Modern take on the original which I prefer this flanker. Its a mature scent still. Its fresh bittery, clean, floral and woody. Blended good. Im getting orange, jasmine and the woods mostly. I bought a bottle for $20 and authentic, a steal.

jtaulbee

I have decants of HR L'eau and EdP. I enjoy the EdP, and respect the greater depth and complexity that it has, but there's something old-fashioned about it that some find off-putting. My wife told me that I smelled like an old-persons closet with mothballs, which I somewhat disagree with, but I can see why she'd get that vibe.

Habit Rouge L'eau, by contrast, feels fresher and more modern while retaining most of the warmth and complexity that I like about the EdP. I get a strong rose note in the opening, although that generally isn't listed in the ingredients. The floral and citris opening dries down to a really nice combination of hazelnut and vanilla that's warm and comforting. Longevity is really good for me, and projection is moderate. My wife complimented me on this one.

Ferra_Verto

Very fitting name for a very chic, well put-together scent. Warm yet fresh bitter orange, light sweet vanilla, with a fresh jasmine and very light hazelnut note. This is a nice and modern interpretation of the original, and I've enjoyed wearing this in the spring & summer seasons. Definitely unisex, non-fussy. Highly recommend.

PhonePotato

I love this one, it’s the perfect easy go to for any warm weather occasion. Seems distant to my Habit Rouge edt. In this one the citrus is toned down and has a juiciness to it compared to the original which has an intense citronella bug spray accord to my nose, also the jasmine here seems amped up. This kinda has a CK One vibe but more potent and natural smelling.

I paid about $14 w/shipping for a new 100ml tester in April 2020, price seems to have doubled online but it is still worth it.

Denzino

I generally have problems with longevity on most perfumes.
But this L’eau - one spray 3 hours ago is still going strong. And i like it much more than the HR only. This is very beautiful. Probably the best rose based for men atm for me. I have tried quite a few rose scents; initio atomic rose being the closest to something i like and would wear as a man, but this one takes the first spot. Just Wow.

8/10 from me.

miles178

the only wearable Habit Rouge for men (for 2020) ... smelling not dated as the original - has a interesting depth of the bottom notes (unique, not generic at all)
good for working place/office friendly ... spray it on the white shirt over the summer, easily stays for 7 hours .. interesting smell, not overblasting vanilla/powdery rose like original from 60´s (dated as fuck)

annxyz

I agree with the previous review . This scent evaporates quickly into nothing and I regret spending money on it . I am disappointed that Guerlain is content to allow a classic scent be diminished to a watery vapor and insist on calling it a perfume or cologne. This happens far too frequently with perfume these days , and it reflects poorly on the company that consumers can’t trust the brand to have consistent quality .

gtabasso

do not get any of the listed notes; this goes on a balsamic fougere with lavender, citrus, vanilla and fades so fast you don't have time to enjoy or figure it out

Handsniffer

This fragrance opens as a fuzzy orange and is pretty fresh upon application which may explain why there are so many votes for this being worn in warm weather. I find this to be more dense than watery. The jasmine, dry vanilla, and hazelnut dominate the mid and seem to be better suited for mild weather exclusively. Once this fragrance has been on skin for two or three hours the jasmine fades and you are left with a beautiful light vanilla and woods. This is my favorite part of the scent.

Andy the Frenchy

L'Eau is similar to the EDP in its structure, but underwent some substitutions: lemon>orange, vanillic rose+carnation>vanillic jasmine, and leathery/woody/resinous accord>nutty patchouli. That said, despite the changes, the overall result is quite similar in the opening, and the orange/jasmine combo could be an interesting alternative to the usual summer bergamot/neroli fragrances.

It's only during the development that the EDP will take a different direction, developing some powderiness, blooming and unveiling all the mastery of Guerlain, as opposed to L'Eau, which scent will stall at that level and prematurely start to fade out.
A soft EDC-level performance on my skin is also not helping, but I should disclose that my bottles appears to be 7 years old... that may be the reason.

To me this one results as being the summer breakfast/beach version of the EDP. Taken as such, it does the job, but imo this one is the most underwhelming of this line. The nutty drydown reminds me of L'Homme Ideal Cologne and its almond note.
I don't see it as being more contemporary than the EDP. Overall not quintessential, but easy to like.
For the $20 I spent on this one, did I get a great deal? Imo NO, I just paid what it's worth.

Spring/Summer days, unisex, 25+

According to Google Translate, "Habit Rouge L'Eau" translated to English means "Red Coat Water".

And that's exactly what this is - a WATERED DOWN version of the original "Red Coat" fragrance. Even if you didn't know about the original Habit Rouge, there's something so watery or flat about this scent that you know it's meant to be a watered down version of something.

So in that sense - you can't be mad. It delivers what it is named after. It has that Guerlain quality - nicely blended.

But there's not much going on. You get a tart or bitter citrus opening. After 15min, all I get is jasmine and hazelnut/vanilla. That's it for the rest of the scent life.

When you smell a complex, layered offering from Guerlain like Heritage, it's hard to be impressed by a relatively underwhelming release like Habit Rouge L'eau even if it was never meant to be offered as anything complex.

Habit Rouge L'eau has been my best discovery of 2019.
totally blind purchase with the only certainty that being a Guerlain I would like it, and being Guerlain its quality was going to be simply impressive.

This flanker, launched in 2011 and created by Thierry Wasser is a reinterpretation for spring / summer of the classic Habit Rouge.

The aroma of this L'eau has no light as you can think by name, it is a very powerful and very long-lasting perfume, with a smell so natural that you can get to perceive each note with each application, from which I only wear one because it is very very powerful.

I think it is very versatile because it can be used throughout the year, for its pleasant aroma and its great sillage and longevity (more than 10 hours!) you will not go unnoticed even in the coldest days.

Every day I am more delighted with Guerlain, if it's possible, because I know that his perfumes will always offer me an infinite quality.

Arida -try to sample it.
I have made a mistake by buying it without smelling it.

***update- 2 years later🙄same bottle...i've sprayed it again- 99.999% full bottle- second attempt- i like it.
very gentlemany & elegant.

I love the opening - lighter, citrusier version of the glorious Habit Rouge with a nutty aspect that will later be further exploited in a Dress Code fashion. What happens afterwards is something i’m not used to discover in my Guerlains. A fairly pleasant fragrance with an accord that smells almost “off” to me. Has the jasmine gone bad? I have an old bottle, alright, but that’s valid for almost all my Guerlains, and they all still smell of amazing quality.
A nice scent but for Guerlain it’s not a compliment.

Of the different iterations of Habit Rouge that I have tried (Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum, L'Eau and Dress Code), this is my least favourite and the one I will not repurchase. I passed my bottle on as a gift.

This is not to say that it is a bad perfume; on the contrary, it is quite pleasant and lives up to its name by feeling aqueous. For those who find the Eaux de Toilette and Parfum overbearing or stuffy, this is more likely to be to their taste. Even some of those who are fond of the others may like it. However, I am not one of those. On me, there is a rather strident chalky note which I cannot quite place.

Interestingly, I recently tested Guerlain Homme Eau de Toilette (in the second bottle design, without the plaque, before the transfer to the Habit Rouge bottle), which I did not take to much, and over which I then sprayed Habit Rouge Eau de Toilette; after some time, the two seemed to have combined to produce the scent of Habit Rouge L'Eau. How this happened when Homme and Habit Rouge do not share many notes with L'Eau is a mystery.

This is undoubtedly a pleasant fragrance that performs well (having smelt it on the person I gifted it to), but it is not to my taste. At any rate, it seems to sell well as it has survived longer than its predecessor, Habit Rouge Légère (or Light), as well as Habit Rouge Sport.

Cortina1981

First I bought this one,and then,The original,Edt.I knew i had to have the original,at least for the importance reason, but of course,I like the originality and uniqness of the Habit rouge edt.Now comparing these two, when I have them both in front, and put my nose on each sprayer,I have to say that I love L'eau more. It's just more modern version, and just suites me more.Lighter, more modern version, lacking some notes that makes The original smelling that it came out in 1965.,which is ok,and I respect that, and it will always stay classic, and have it's place in the perfume history.L'eau is great, and people at Guerlain made a great job, making the original,to my nose, better, and definitely more modern.

Przem

Good thing is this not too similar to EDT/EDP as it would boring. Bad thing surprisingly is that the similarity is too little. If someone told me to guess what it is, I would never say this reminds me of Habit Rouge.
But overall classy, pleasant and good for office as it is not offensive.
I can imagine also on women.
Reasonable sillage and longevity. Scent 7.5/10.

DrNDJas

I love Habit Rouge And was very excited to try this one. This fragrance has essentially two phases: the citric/sweet/nutty opening and the strong, long lasting jasmine-dominated dry down. The bitter orange, nutty, vanilla opening is utterly fantastic, if somewhat airier than the original’s but just as beautiful. I only wish something other than jasmine was used for creating longevity in this fragrance. Jasmine can be tricky as it can be quite indolic, and unfortunately, l’eau goes this direction after an hour or two on my skin as the beautiful top notes fade. If jasmine works for you, this is going to be a real gem. For me, regrettably, I’ll have to sell it. It’s a real pity about the jasmine.. dang it.

Highoctanehome

The translation of "l'eau" to English is "water" which is what it is . . . a lighter, more delicate unisex scented water version of its original EDT.

I reach for it as my "happy spray" and spray it often all over because it's not so strong and serious. It doesn't last more than three hours on me which is just fine with me. Using it is not so much of a commitment, just pure enjoyment for a few hours. I love to close my eyes and spray it directly on my face, which I would not do with any other in my collection. Have you tried that yet?

I get mostly a very natural smelling light jasmine and vanilla with a hint of citrus . . . not serious making it appropriate for both casual and semi-formal settings . . . work or play and ideal for the office because it is not overpowering.

Best of all, you can get this now at discounters for $22 USD for a 100ml tester which makes it as light and playful as the scent itself. Add a bottle to your collection before it is discontinued.

I haven't tried the original Habit Rouge but I figured it had that strong vintage smell like maybe Aramis which came out around the same time. I didn't want something so strong because I already have some of that type so figured I would give L'Eau a shot thinking it would be a milder more modern version and I would say that it is. It smells just like Old Spice but maybe toned down slightly on the spice. This is easier to wear and inoffensive but still vintage smelling. I like it and it's definitely a quality fragrance. I give this a 8.5/10

scentitar

I find this the best and most modern interpretation of this fragrance DNA.

You get a soft classic yellow feel with a soft, almost tonka like scent. It has the nuance of citrus, but never smells like lemon. I get a ambergris like feel as well.

Very easy to wear, classy, but never showy. I also find this fragrance unisex, but the lady would have to be mature and in the mood.

I find this is best for spring mornings and summer days, but can be worn anytime and anywhere for sure.

Great classic scent, but I think the modern formulations of Eau Sauvage might be better, but this is so calming.

RicardoAurelioP

I will try and give a succinct review here for prospective buyers. I happen to own three versions of Habit rouge: The parfum, eau de toilette, and L’eau.

This is a nice scent, its opening is more reminiscent of the parfum than the eau de toilette, with less of a blast than the other two versions, mezzo piano in volume with green and orange accords and there’s definitely a hazelnut accord in the base. Thierry Wasser has indeed done a good job here, the notes are not relevant here, what matters is the artistic concept in play here; how could one make a 21st century version of such a classic sense, with its aesthetics adapted to modern tastes? L’eau is your answer. However, it’s not from Jean Paul Guerlain’s nose, so bear that in mind, we’re not talking about a masterpiece here, but it is a very fine and handsome scent for a modern individual. To “get” this perfume, I think you should have at least smelt the originals.

I think it’s a very good modern remix; while the originals have a more retro, gentlemanly quality to them, this is more delicate; think Japanese architect or a subtle artistic type who is in control of his bodily hygiene and presentation. It’s pretty much what you’d expect as a modern iteration of a classic.

Although it’s flirts with skin scent territory and doesn’t last as long as the originals, I still believe it’s worth pursuing if you enjoyed the Habit Rouge parfum or eau de toilette and would like something more futuristic or modern.

Honestly, if you have yet to try any of them, I would recommend starting with the eau de toilette original: The parfum is quite luxurious and a bit more formal (although a competely divine scent in and of itself and worthy of any serious scent collection) and may seem a bit less versatile to some. If I could assign this scent a Fragrantica score, it would be in the region of a 4.14 to 4.18. You definitely can't go wrong with this one, blind-buyable for owners of the original Habit Rouges.

At first sniff, I didn't know what to make of this. Years ago, I'd smelled the original Habit Rouge EdP and frankly hated it. It felt very dated and much too mature for me. So, when I discovered L'Eau, I was intrigued. Initially, I didn't think it worked; it smelled jarring and discordant. A few moments later, this juice really came together. There's still a certain vintage vibe to it, but it doesn't smell too old-school. The orange is bright, bitter, and sparkly and works quite well with the hazelnut-vanilla to form a sort of candied orange peel accord. But this is by no means a gourmand fragrance; it's more powdery-cacao-Guerlinade in the dry down. I think that delicate jasmine is the miracle ingredient here: it isn't too assertive but brings everything else into alignment. Another clever move on Guerlain's part was dialing the patchouli waaaay down; I'm not a huge fan personally, and moreover I think that was the note that made the original feel so antiquated. Decent longevity and sillage; a comforting, casual, and unique fragrance.

Update 16 Feb 2019: A barista at a local café looked up in the middle of taking my order and exclaimed "You smell SO good!" which was a lovely surprise. A further testament to the pleasantness, projection, and versatility of HR L'eau! :)

oh-so-vague

I'm trying to find the right analogy for this. If the original Habit Rouge EDT is an oil painting, this is an impressionist watercolour of the same subject... or maybe it's a modern remake of a classic French film. It smells very reminiscent of Habit Rouge, but quieter, softer, fuzzier...

I think those who claim it smells just like a modern designer fragrance are exaggerating - it's still a powdery citrus and vanilla fragrance. But I think the drama of the original is missing. I'm still trying to work my nose around the vanillic intensity of the classic Guerlains - the aspects that I found most challenging about Habit Rouge EDT are gone or softened here, but perhaps those same qualities are also what keeps drawing me back to Habit Rouge anyway...

It's complicated, what can I say? I miss the EDT's epic progression from bright lemon citrus to intensely projecting vanilla to leather... here we have powdery bitter orange, almost lemongrassy in the way it interacts with the subtle green notes, fading to a muted orange cream with only so-so longevity. I thought this might be a more wearable version of Habit Rouge EDT, and in many ways it is, but really it just makes me want to spend some more time getting to know the original.

StardustHK

I am certainly not a fan of Thierry Wasser but this is flanker done right.
The EdT is too dusty for me, I highly respect the EdP but L'eau is Habit Rouge for the 21st century! Clearly Habit Rouge DNA, yet unique with the buttery-smooth hazelnut, vanilla, jasmine blend. Four seasons, date, work, casual - this "water" does it all with ease and with respectable performance.
With this reference, I'd be looking forward to a Vetiver L'eau.

problematic

5 out of 10. Surprised there are so many over-the-moon reviews from seemingly sophisticated noses. Not rich, not complex, not sophisticated. I'd call it more confusing than complex. Agree with other reviewers' "old fashioned" comments. It's like a bottle of 4711 fell into grandma's powder puff. (It doesn't really smell like 4711 but has similar anachronistic character.) More rose to me than citrus or vanilla per the prevalent comments, plus maybe bergamot or myrrh.

I got the regular HR blind at the same time and they are virtually identical. L'Eau adds ever-so-slight aquatic and citrus notes, but barely perceptible to me. I keep it around and try every now and then just because it vexes me and I stubbornly don't want to let it win.

Good or not, it's definitely not typical. I have a strange feeling this is what 18th century perfumes smelled like. Maybe I should think of it as time travel.

Fragrance - Habit Rouge L'Eau Guerlain
Bottle from - 2015

For some reason, this fragrance reminds me of a handsome man in love, watching the sunset over the lake and waiting for his girlfriend to join him.
Habit Rouge L'Eau opens on my skin with a citrusy, moderatly sweet and slightly bitter lemony orange laying on top of a bit cozy blend of vanilla and hazelnut enchanted with some kind of watery magic.
As time goes by,during mid development, bouquet of flowers, with dominant jasmine, starts to emerge and bring some romance into the game.I can detect a hint of divine rose, but it's not listed in the notes.
This all leads into a moderatly sweet, woody and vanillic base with a nice touch of patchouli.
The original Habit Rouge DNA is there, but he took a bit different approach.I would say a modern, lighter and more playful approach.

Longevity - 9/10(9+ hours)
Silage/Projection - 8/10(moderate to high projection and silage for the first 2-3 hours, than sits closer to skin for the duration of the scent's evolution)
Weather - For more or less any time of year.Best in early autumn, spring and summer.I personally wouldn't wear this on a really cold winter days.
Versatility - 9/10
Age - 20+
Compliments - 9/10
Scent - 9,5/10

Main notes according to me -
bitter orange,vanilla,jasmine,water notes,hazelnut.

The drydown - Habit Rouge L'Eau doesn’t really change very much and I get some vanilla, woodiness and patchouli. This is a bit linear scent but in a good way.

Emotions -man in love watching the sunset, classy, romantic, sophisticated, sensual, elegant.

Occasion -For more or less any ocasion.Best for date and romantic evening.

Could be a nice signature scent. You'll get compliments with this one.

The opening is very much the HR EDT with a hefty dose of citrus. People who enjoy HR and were looking for a fresh version for warm weather will adore the opening.

People who find the EDT (and the EDP) somewhat challenging may have to endure the opening, but the drydown is worth it.

Simply put, the drydown is incredible - one of the best out there. It's a dry vanilla-woody accord (the wood coming from the nuttier than sweet hazelnut?), with more subtle hints of the jasmine - and occasional (but not constant) wafts of the classic HR EDT.

Thierry is not screwing around, my hat's off to him and to Guerlain - what a spectacular addition to the HR family.

halael

An intimate scent. Refined. Ageless. Sweet orange cream and vanilla. Slightly oriental and slightly green, it's a gourmand a typical man could get away with and no one would question it. Where the original habit rouge was a power bottom, l'eau is versatile. Just as sexy, but less abrasive. Much easier to wear, but nowhere near common. A+.

Oldspice

Original Habit Rouge EDT was too much for me. Even though I enjoy classic fragrances I found it to be a very challenging wear. I enjoy the L'Eau version a lot however. There's still a lot of the original in here but it's much easier to wear. There's less of the powdery feel in this one. It still has the chalky orange in the opening. Some florals in the opening also. In the middle stages the creamy non-sweet vanilla comes out and in the eventual final stage I get patchouli.

The lasting power on this is outstanding, 10-12 hours easy. I think after wearing this more this will be an effective stepping stone to appreciating the original Habit Rouge.

DanielSan22

In my opinion Habit Rouge L'eau by Guerlain is one of the best fragrances ever created. Thierry Wasser created a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned!

aper

Another good quality fragrance from Guerlain. Strong citrus/floral opening, with beautiful vanilla drydown. Moderate longevity and projection. A great addition to any fragrance collection.

Chacmool

L'Oh!

A contemporary, yet respectful take on a classic fragrance. It could have been the one that brought Habit Rouge to a new audience, or even recall those who found the original a bit much, confusing and dated, even stuffy.

The overtly synthetic 'Green' notes in L'Eau stand out noticeably at the beginning, but are a comforter for those who prefer designer or mainstream fragrances. There is also far more going on than in the listed notes above. It eventually gives way to an artful variation on the Habit Rouge theme with all your favourite characters; who magically appear a bit younger and with better teeth.

The spirit and potency of HR hasn't been muted or toned down at all, rather; the lighting has new dimensions and there's a soft focus which might make it more Millenial-Friendly.

Post GT

Reminds me a lot of Curel body lotion in the dry down. Opens with a beautiful bright orange note. Good performance for a fresh scent like this. This could easily be a unisex fragrance. Great underrated fragrance and for only $25 a bottle, you can't beat it. Guerlain quality!

mikkiboy

Excellent perfume for a bussiness lady. Great sillage too.

mrluctoretemergo

Superb...if all the flankers or light versions were as good as this one we wouldn't be arguing about them anymore...i like this one even more than the original ... 9,5/10

When I was helping my dad pack for a move overseas at the end of last year, he was generous enough to let me have his bottle of Habit Rouge L'Eau that I had commandeered somewhere in the packing process to constantly sniff. This was my first Guerlain, and it was love at first sniff - bright and comforting and sophisticated at the same time, like bundling yourself in a soft linen scarf on a crisp spring day. Bitter orange peel, true vanilla, jasmine, hazelnut, gentle patchouli. Super versatile and totally unisex. Lasts a good 8 hours. An absolute joy to wear.

carlosalbertoandradecruz

I bought this fragrance after buying the EDT and the EDP.
I expected it to be a lighter and less expensive flanker of the EDT but it's not really the case. It is simply as fantastic as the EDT and the EDP, and undeniably with the fantastic Habit Rouge ADN.
After spraying you get a great initial fresh blast of bitter orange tamed by the non sweet vanilla, with a creamy and smoth behaviour (hazel? jasmin?) and a very classy patchouly background... fantastic! Great fragrance, indeed.
Performance is exceptional for an EDC; It's better than many EDPs I own.
The versatility is monstruous as you can wear it everywhere, all situations, all seasons, day and night.
I did 5 sprays of this fragrance in the morning, and had a few compliments!
Yes you get compliments although this was suposed to be a "safe" fragrance for day to day use.

Let us see what the maths tell us:
Scent: 10.0 (my judgement)
Longevity: 8.5 (well above average for the existing notes but not beasty)
Sillage: 8.0 (same as longevity)
Uniqueness: 10.0 (unique, considering the existing fragrances that I am aware of, with yhe exception of the other Guerlain perfumes like the other Habit Rouge colognes and some Shalimar perfumes)
Wearability: 10.0 (4 seasons, day or night)
Versatility: 9.5 (yes to clubbing, socializing, events, restaurants... and yes to dates, romancing, sex, office, beach, picnics, weaddings, movies, birthday gift to your father in law... no to work out !)
Quality: 10.0 (my judgement)
Presentation: 7.5 (a bit simple but effective; very good sprayer)
Price: 10.0 (100 ml tester for 19 Euros + VAT)

Overall rating for this fragrance: 9.28/10.0

My other ratings:

Overall rating for the EDT: 9.11/10.0

Habit Rouge...the secret Shalimar flankers.

The Habit Rouge line is one of my favorites for men and for women. L'Eau starts with the traditional Guerlainade/Shalimar base and then Wasser does some skillful additions and subtractions to end up with something fresh and new.

Habit Rouge L'Eau has the wonderfully piquant citrus paired with a non-sweet vanilla (think vanilla bean, not vanilla frosting). The hazelnut adds some creaminess but the green/watery notes keep this very fresh throughout the dry down.

L'Eau is beautifully crafted and the progression from top to bottom is elegant. It's always well blended and well balanced from the moment you spray it until it's gone.

mark.normand

Upon sampling HR L'Eau for the first time after a blind-buy, I was not impressed in the least. In fact, I scrubbed it from my wrist less than 60 seconds after applying it. But then after I'd completely forgotten about it, about a 1/2 hour 45 minutes later as L'Eau began to dry down I could detect something that smelled incredibly captivating, even after having scrubbed most of it off. I then applied another good shot and awaited the full dry-down and I must now admit that I've been seduced by this beautifully fresh and light uplifting scent! For my chemistry, it has all day lasting power and projection. It's no wonder the original Habit Rouge is so beloved. This is my first venture into Guerlain territory and it won't be my last...not after falling in love with this little treasure. I dare to rate it at a 9.5.

During the past recent years I seem to find myself checking Jack Hunter's excellent fragrantica.com reviews, of which a good amount of them I happen to agree with. Yet this time I was sure he was waaay off base about HR L'Eau. But man, I'm so glad I gave L'Eau a second chance, as I'm smitten with this incredibly gorgeous frag! In fact, I can see this being my signature work/day scent for quite some time to come. Thanks Jack...your review is right on the money! ;-))

This is simply fantastic! Great fragrance, indeed. Since i put this fragrance in the morning, i had a few compliments! And the day just started! It was a blind buy and i´m glad i did it! Superb!

Vanilla #1

First off, I just got this so this review might change soon.

Because of the rave reviews I did not do a "practice run", I spritzed some on and went out knowing it was going to be warm today.

Not sure why this receives so many summer season votes, it's a bit too heavy for me, because of the prominent vanilla note.

It's a really nice aroma but I pickup a vanilla heavy scent, not citrus-like that others mention.

I guess it's the hazelnut that adds a bit too much body for my taste. A little goes a long way so caution to those new to this fragrance.

I'll try it again later on when the day temps go down.

Definitely classy and for the over 30 crowd.

thatsmr2usir

Guerlain has created a beautiful off spring from the original classic! The opening is a beautiful citrus opening with a delicious hazel nut accord that is creamy & blends nicely with the orange.

Soon it is joined by the jasmine which brings a little bit of a fem vibe but rest assured, the composition remains fairly unisex/Manly for those that are concerned. It all ends with some nice woods & vanilla which creates a nice elegant touch!

This is best worn in spring & fall, daytime wear as it is not heavy enough for evening wear for my taste. One would be pressed to find a similar fragrance that does what this does & for the price & quality? It probably won't be matched.

A MUST have for your collection! `

smellavision

This is definitely a more contemporary version of the original Habit Rouge - actually I'd say it's slightly more casual.

It's lighter, much less powdery and missing the leather but still clearly has the easily recognizable backbone of the original. Much more wearable to me. Hazelnut is listed, but no rose?? I don't get it, I find it to be clearly rose-oriented still, covered in jasmine, bitter orange, woody patchouli and vanilla. It could even be a unisex fragrance. Actually there's also some resemblance to Habit Rouge Dress Code, albeit it was released after this version.

Impressive longevity and a very reasonable projection, and though I find the original to be too cloying, this version is not bad for a flanker at all.

mapache

Received today.
This is like Habit Rouge original...with that "cloying" aspect taken out !! First spritz...all citrusy..then jasmine/vanilla......underneath the green note is rising also and light patchouli...The patchouli is not the star here. The hazelnut is a supporting character...floating around somwhere. The more I smell it...the more I am loving this !!! I had the original Habit Rouge years ago and it gave me a headache...and was cloying. This has the origibnal DNA, but everything is smoothed out and re-freshed. Totally Guerlain, total quality is there.
A new LOVE.

EDIT: To my nose...this and the current Eau de Shalimar are sister/brother scents....or at least cousins....similar vibes.

MojoBaby

Magnific! Oh Guerlain how you don't disappoint with your well conducted orchestra of notes in each of your timeless fragrances. For as long as I can get this she will be my signature think creamy lemon Chanel Allure Edition Blanche vibes but more powdery more robust replace the lemon with a fresh masculine bitter orange add Jasmine and you have versatility. Im in love with this beauty.

I can't wear the standard EDT/EDP of Habit Rouge.
Both seem old fashioned to me. This is a much fresher version that is a delight. Unisex to me.
Smells much better than it's price point.
Hope they don't discontinue this.

joenick68

Definitely bears the Habit Rouge core, but sort of renewed and leaning to the floral side, with a great silage and I would say it is very potent for a "l'eau" version.
I am wearing it for the first time, and think I will be aiming to it a couple more times during the Summer.

almondbreakfast

This is 90% identical to Shalimar Legere (2003).

Love both. HR is a bit more powdery than SL.

Both fit perfectly for day wear.

gtxo

I haven't smelled this or the original HR either, but does this one have a powdery-vanillic drydown to it?

domcho

I ust can SAY : OMG!!! What incredible raw Citrus with a hint of IDK what, but its some chocolate vibe and vanilla behind is waiting for its role to come. After hour or two you can smell Nubian lotion for sun protection. Even after shower i can smell it and it projects like beast. I smell it everywhere around me.
Blind buy, but i will never regret it in my life. I knew that Guerlain cant never disappoint me!!!

8/10 - i didnt smell original yet :P

orpailleur

Another variant of citrus fruit, here bitter orange, in the fruity oriental theme of the Habit Rouge series. Seeing the white label, I initially thought it was a Cologne, but it's a fine EdT. For those who think it's too light, add a small spray of HR l'Extrait on each wrist, and you feel like in heaven !

I like this, however the jasmine note is so bright and powerful for me I can barely smell anything else, including orange, until the jasmine dies down after about 2 hours. After that it's wonderful and mellow, and I get the orange creamsicle effect other people describe, but while the jasmine dominates it reminds me of disinfectant or a very feminine, floral perfume. I got this before ever trying the original, assuming this would be a more "user friendly" version. I see the original doesn't have jasmine listed so I'd be curious to give that a try to see how I like it. I also like the bottle a lot but the cap feels like cheap plastic.

Madrona

Have not tried the original. I was expecting more hazelnut, but what I did get certainly didn't disappoint. I find it to be more or less like a masculinized Shalimar, actually. The same kind of unmistakable Guerlain signature but with a sprinkle of classic, stylish man. I would wear this.

JamesAQ4

the ratings, reviews, and scent pyramid gave me the impression of a smoother more modern more vanilla version of the original. that's so far from reality. I don't know how there's such a difference of experience other than people are reviewing a different HR flanker not l'eau. I like it, really like it, but there's not really more vanilla. it opens up heavy floral citrus. a mix of jasmine/rose/orange.. the florals mellowed out and the orange remained prominent throughout the duration. Gradually the strong florals were joined by a little bit of a patchouli/vanilla/hazelnut accent. I blind purchased a full bottle expecting something different. which is fine since I like what I got. unexpectedly reminds me of leau d'issey intense a little bit.

Months later- definitely drys down more vanilla than I initially thought.

malikmmm

Just tried the sample and i am kind of confused. first when i was about to order the guerlain sales person said that this costs around $460 Can. second she is like L-Eau is not related to Habit-rouge family and third i cant smell any of the notes listed above. but any way i smell like rose and vanilla.

mutatismutandis

Habit Rouge L'Eau is a nice take on the classic Habit Rouge. Both have the lovely vanilla base in common. Both also have impressive longevity, although L'Eau doesn't last as long as the original. L'eau is gentler. It doesn't have the leather in it which can be a little oppressive at times. L'Eau is much easier to wear than Habit Rouge because it is lighter and gentler. They both have a jasmine note which seems to be the same strength in both but is more noticeable in L'Eau than HR EDT because the classic has a lot more notes and a lot more going on. Where Habit Rouge L'Eau differs from the original is that the opening has a bitter orange rather than a lemon and tangerine citrus. There's a patchouli note in both in the heart notes but it's wrapped around a vague green set of notes and with some nuts in L'Eau rather than the woods and resin that you get in Habit Rouge EDT. The classic has cinnamon and nutmeg which give give it a certain warmth whereas L'Eau goes down the fresher, lighter route with the green notes instead. L'Eau is a simpler, gentler version of a classic. It might suffer in comparison or it might seem like a fresher reinterpretation, depending on your point of view. Habit Rouge EDT is a well-established classic of decades standing whereas L'Eau probably won't gain similar status. However, you might think of it as a gateway perfume - it is a much easier way into some of the Guerlain classics which most people are probably not ready for earlier on in their olfactory journey. I think Habit Rouge L'Eau is an excellent introduction into the world of Guerlain as well as a rather nice perfume in it's own right. In the same way that you don't give a child chocolate with 90% cocoa solids and expect them to like it - you need to work up to it slowly and let your palate adjust to the different sensations from proper quality ingredients - I think this is a lovely number and a nice way into the Guerlain world. And every parfumista should find a Guerlain or two to love. Maybe they should have called it Habit Rouge: La Porte!

The gateway to Guerlain classics.

Konga5000

Less screechy than it's former DNA - as said on here many times.
If you have never dipped into Habit Rouge- this is a good one to start with . Price is fair as well!
Sweeter and more complex than the original .

A good blind buy!

polly golightly

abderrahim

Amazing one and in my opinion it's more safer for people who found the EDT is complicated.

aliks

Much easier to wear than the original Habit Rouge, which is a marvel, but which I hardly can wear today for more than 2 or 3 days without annoying myself with the smell. L'Eau is a great proposal for a very impressionist kind of reference to a masterpiece.

Casiquire

This is quite an improvement over the original in my opinion! This smells young, a bit sweet, and with one of the best jasmine notes in a "man's" fragrance that I've smelled recently. It opens with orange, which is a perfect pair with the creamy jasmine middle. Contrary to the opinions of others here, I quite like the opening. It's a smoother take on the original.

The orange does fade away though, and when that happens it's a creamy and nutty jasmine. I can't always pick out the hazelnut but when I can it's a strong note and probably my favorite touch out of the whole fragrance. It's beautiful.

The base is vanilla pretty much all the way but the middle notes never fully disappear. The only downside to the nearly-perfect fragrance is the slight hint of baby wipes in the base. I only smell that immediately after re-applying or when I give it a puff of warm air from my nostrils way at the end.

All in all this is the definition of well-blended. It's nothing but smooth, it's vanilla and hazelnut but not too sweet, it's jasmine but not too floral. It's soft in texture but projects fairly well and on me lasts over nine hours, I usually shower before this wears off so I don't even know how long it would last.

I'm not one to put an age on a fragrance, but the original HR is an exception. It smells old to me. It smells how I imagine the sheets would smell in a camper that hasn't been used since the 80s. Dusty with a bit of fabric softener. L'Eau on the other hand is youthful but it's not trendy, it still has a classic feel, can be worn any time and any season--though some summer days might get too warm. This is one of Wasser's best!

arteditors

i tried habit rouge l'eau next to the habit rouge, at the same time. habit rouge is by far superior to this. l'eau is far too mild and my skin devours it as if nothing happened two hours after application. if you want to go softer and not too sure about habit rouge, then go for l'eau. i find habit rouge too eccentric i prefer it over l'eau and i can support the scent.

l'eau is simpler, less complex more of an all rounder and less bolt. i want bolt, not just a perfume.

Anywhereyouare

Not so "rouge" any more. It's more green, grassy, sharp. It is a little bitter at the beginning and quite sweet and sugary at the drydown. Suits well sweaters, shirts - rather casual in my opinion but it has it's own splendor. However isn't as powerful as EDT, seems great though. True Eau de Habit Rouge.
Wonderfully behaves if sprayed on leather watch strap - it lasts for weeks on soft gallantry. On skin it lasts around 8 hours, projects well about 4 hours - I personally re-apply it during the day.
Very fine fragrance, definitely well done renterpretation of it's famous predecessor.

EddyC

Actually this is very similar to the original edt, i've been testing them side by side, in the opening they are quite similar, l'eau seems to be a bit more crisp and creamy, in the drydown the edt is more powdery-vanillic

SNOOPY

I ordered habit rouge online and was sent this instead.
I did not care too much for the opening but the dry down was incredibly beautiful.
,very distinctive fragrance.
to me the drydown smelled like angel food cake tastes.

biscoff

Oh, my God, I love this one!
Guerlain DNA + the most versatile among the Habit Rouge line - fresh, delicious, lusty. Performance-wise I would say it is good enough ~6-8 hours of longevity with medium silage.

4/5 from me.

Hope that Guerlain keeps it in its portfolio...

pars2002

IMHO Among EDP, EDT , Sport and this , L'Eua is the most wearable version. Rose is not amid main notes but I detect a weak rose-like note. for young gentlemen who are into classics but avoid using old school frags, this is a big unique surprise.

EddyC

today with an extremely hot weather after 12 hs i can still detect it when i move my head

Brenao

Habit rouge on Xanax. A softer and well-rounded version, very wearable and unique at same time. First the citrus notes appears(the most hard part of the fragrance, not so adorable) and then 20 minutes later a soft orange note seems familiar, at the same time a floral heart joins this harmonious dance. On basenotes 40 minutes later you have a soft oriental wax with hazelnut. Not so sweet, but not for hot days also. Appealing enough.

gzalvares

Citrus-vanilic delicious! Opens with much orange which gradually makes a creamy mousse with vanilla and hazelnut. Great.

krisiu

Very elegant, high class scent. It has great silage and good longevity. It is modern, but in a classic way ;-) I love the drydown

orestes

Very similar to habit rouge legere(light)2005 version, very good version, especially for spring,i love this scent! I hope never discontinued!

Jack_Hunter

On the opening you get a very soft and smooth cream like orange citrus note. After a while a airy jasmine note appears and seems to dominate the heart of the fragrance.

In the dry-down the unsweet cream like vanilla takes over with hints of patchouli, woods, musk and a watery note. All in all this fragrance lasts five hours with average projection.

This scent is very nice indeed and the notes are woven very subtlety within the soft and smooth olfactory tapestry.

The drydown is especially good as it seems to morph on your skin. One moment when you sniff yourself up close you smell the orange and musk, other times the jasmine and slight woods.

A worthy fragrance which I would classify as a citrus floral oriental making it perfect to wear anytime and anywhere.

hamtoo

In my opinion, this version of Habit Rouge lacks the fabulous complexity of the version from 2003. Both have some similarity at the opening, but it lasts no more than 15-20 min. After that, the 2003 version displays a wonderful olfactory experience that is absent in the 2011 version. The jasmine joined to the bitter orange remotely approaches the newest version to the oldest just for a short time. After half an hour the 2001 version falls into a watered linear scent, whereas the other version has an absolutely classy and intriguing growth to offer, with the mix of floral, leather, woody and spicy notes working up an elegant scent that makes you a gentelman.

A complete waste of money as far as I'm concerned. It's like Guerlain took the top notes of Habit Rouge and replaced the rest of the formula with Calone. It's called "L'eau" for a reason: because it's as weak as water. Drydown? What drydown? This thing disappears in under two hours. Dear God, aren't there enough interchangeable, fresh water, "clean," Calone-laden scents out there? Was it necessary to update this classic by removing from it everything that made it a classic?

fragrantpete.

A beautifully balanced and nuanced scent.
After the initial citrus a wonderfully rounded fragrance slowly emerges. The bell it rings in my olfactory memory is that of Rosewood.

msburn

I love how this scent has great silage and how it still remains light until up close. It smells strange at the opening because the citrus note, but as soon as it starts to dry-down (20-40 min), it starts smelling amazing and it is a very unique smell.

Why this shit is called Habit Rouge ? O_o
----
Ok, let's edit that. I wrote it right after I sprayed it on my skin.
The opening is way too bad ! Well, not that bad, but you have to LOVE the bitter orange a lot to accept it. Otherwise, don't ever think about it !

I was like "What is that ?... Why this thing is called Habit Rouge, it's NO WAY like the original ! So citrus, HEAVY citrus.

Once the drydrown comes, and that orange note dissapears, now you recognize the grandeur of the real Habit Rouge. That beautiful powdery scent, that mythic one.

Well, as I didn't like the opening, I washed my hands 3 times... And the scent stills here. So well, great quality in the end. If you could pass that weird opening, you won't be deceive..

But I mean, price of the original is just a little bit expansive than this one, so... What is the point to buy that one which is almost the same, in my opinion, just a little bit more fresh and... citrus;

I wish that I were as versed on fragrances as many who post reviews and nearly give the fragrance of which they speak a life of its own. Ah! I am not knowledgeable save with a few scents that I know. Of these, Habit Rouge L'eau is definitely another GUERLAIN classic that competes well with the original Habit Rouge in essence, yet is a completely different experience. The spiciness of the original is not here, but the opening is lush with a deep fruity (bitter orange & patchouli) aroma that soon drys to a signature vanilla and jasmine combination that is addictive because it is the male version of Shalimar. This was a blind buy as was the original. These two are in my top five. Habit Rouge is, for now, my signature scent followed by Terre d'Hermes Parfum for men, then Habit Rouge L'eau. These scents are delicious and I'm delighted to wear them... anywhere, any time, any place.

lovely secnt i agree with candy
its have kinde of l'Instant de Guerlain with vanille and powdery and its kind of femenin
dry down is amazing
i think i well fall in love with is i need to try more
in winter

candy-datura

Not bad, and not a plain scent as well. For me it's something between l'Instant de Guerlain and Cacharel pour Homme.
