Gentlemen Only by Givenchy is a Woody fragrance for men. Gentlemen Only was launched in 2013. The nose behind this fragrance is Jean Jacques. Top notes are Pink Pepper, Green Mandarin, Birch Leaf, Nutmeg and Bergamot; middle notes are Vetiver, Cedar, Patchouli, Violet Leaf and elemi; base notes are Incense and Musk.

Givenchy launches a new fragrance for men in 2013. Gentlemen Only is a modern homage to the classic fragrance of the house - Givenchy Gentlemen from 1974. This fragrance was once revolutionary amongst masculine fragrance introducing strong and intense woody notes instead of the traditional aromatic and citrusy ones.

Gentlemen Only is intended to men of our times; it is designed around modern woody nuances. The composition opens with fresh and spicy accords of green mandarin, pink pepper, nutmeg and birch leaves. Deep and intense woody character is provided by the heart of cedar, patchouli and vetiver. The base captures incense and animalistic notes.

The face of this Givenchy perfume is Australian actor Simon Baker. The fragrance is available as 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette with additional after shave lotion, deodorant in spray and in stick.

I ADORE this fragrance, I'm seriously tempted to buy this for myself in spite of being female. Spicy, slightly sweet, but still fresh... And soooo persistent!

I can imagine this being used as a signature or kept for more special occasions just as easily.

Starting to believe Givenchy really is the MVP of perfumery.

Vorotox

There isn't much excitement about this. Mass-appealing for sure, but it's not something I'd personally own. It's pretty generic and lacks depth, which is a bit disappointing. Doesn't project that well either. I found it to be a rather linear scent.

Bros89

The opening is a bit like Versace pour Homme, fresh and classy. In the drydown it becomes less fresh but more warm woody. Reminds me of the drydown of Joop Homme, but less strong, just warm and comfy. Safe blind buy if you like fresh fragrances.

jasontallwood

To me this is an actual "for him" or at least a more grown up version of Paco Rabanne - Invictus EDT (2013). I'm shocked it wasn't higher on the "smells like" list here. The difference I found was that this is less fruity and there's no marine notes. However side by side people will spot similarities such as how the mandarin orange and patchouli are used. Now mix Dior - Homme 2020 with this and you'd get Gentlemen Only

I thought of Dior Homme 2020 due to the fact there's pink pepper, elemi resins, bergamot, vetiver and musk notes. Of course notes on any fragrances pyramid are to be taken with a grain of oud I mean salt. Another for some reason I'm vaguely reminded of is Gucci - Guilty Platinum.

What drew me to this fragrance was the pink pepper, violet leaf, birch and incense. It's a clean, fresh and spicy in the top notes. It's simple, elegant, extremely easy to wear. I'll take this over most blue fragrances for my every day tasks. There's this sweet and somewhat smoky undertone as it dries down giving it this fizzy sparkling water like feel to it. Don't worry the smoke isn't like a middle eastern fragrance and people won't think something is burning or you were in a fire. I think they hit the nail on the head calling this one Gentlemen. The violet leaf in this does not smell like Dior - Fahrenheit. so don't worry you won't get any gasoline / petrol like scents out of it.

a dumb way to describe this fragrance is imagine you're getting your hair cut. Someone in the next chair. There's a bit of hair spray in the air and the faintest touch of smoke coming from outside as someone opened the door. It's so faint no one is saying anything

Longevity my first week wearing it was 7 hours with about 6 sprays on a warm summer day, however after that 6 hour you'll probably have trouble catching wiffs of it. If you're after projection or anything else you'll have to probably go with much more sprays. It would be a bit strange making a beast mode fragrance that fills the room called "gentleman" wouldn't it so this has nothing to do with the EDT concentration. The perfumers knew what they were doing.

Any age can pull this off. This can be someones first fragrance, even in middle school I could see me wearing this. This is an easy to reach for fragrance. It can be worn in casual situations, for the office. Yet something about it, it can be dressed up. Of course expensive dinners or dates at night time I'd want something entirely different such as Givenchy - Gentleman EDP or a fragrance from another brand.

Comparing invictus to this. Invictus will fill a room up, it's more unisex, more youthful. Sweeter, it has more of a grapefruit touch to it. Even if it was 2013 again which both fragrances were released around the same time I'd go with Gentlemen Only without any hesitation.

bamba21

very mass appealing, fresh and clean.

Jmac88

So refreshing and clean. Like a cool drink of water on a hot day. Don’t let the rating deter you. This is worth picking up. I think Givenchy is my favorite designer for fragrance

jdvice

I blind bought this and eros back in college before I really knew anything about fragrances. For office/classroom/cheap date nights, I think it does its job. Nothing special or outlandish. Not what I would consider a compliment puller, but its an overall good fragrance.

Fragrance_Enj00yer

I have been owning a bottle for many years now and it has been untouched for quite some time. I personally like the scent of the fragrance, but that's because Gentleman Only is a cheap way to smell decent around the office during spring time.

Don't expect something very interesting. This is an office fragrance with a very simple scent profile. Moderate sillage and average performance. One can boost those two factors once sprayed a fair amount. Elegant? Somewhat. Women will like it because the scent is mature and fits the image of a confident man in a suit. I would call it safe and crowd pleasing... if people can even pick it up at the end of a day working.

So, carry it with you so you can reapply after ~5 hours. Gentleman Only is boring to some if not many with a trained nose, but I'd say it's mostly something to wear on a day to day basis if one would not want to stand out too much while still being noticed. That's the essence of confidence; to be noticed for more than just your scent.

There are better flankers around. The regular Gentleman line (including Boisée) is a lot more interesting and should be tried first. All in all, Givenchy's Gentleman Only is a decent fragrance and I'm sure some women that like elegance in a man will adore it.

6.5/10, do give it a try.

LeSmeller

This reminds me a little bit of Gentleman Eau de Parfum Boisée because it's spicy and woody. Was putting citrus in the mix a good idea? I'm not sure. The fragrance smells a bit crowded, like there's one note too many. Either drop citrus and go towards the Gentleman line, drop pepper and go toward Aventus, or drop the smoky part and go spicy fresh. Instead, they ended up with a peppery sour citrus fresh scent held down by the heavy part, and violet pulling everything yet another way. The problem as I see it is that these parts are disjointed and do not really fit with each other. The scent is not sure where it wants to go. There is too much going on. It's like Dior Sauvage Elixir, but completely incoherent, and sour in an unpleasant way. The whole is rather abrasive.

The performance is weak, specifically the scent fades fast.

Im a woman and i have to comment on this one. This is my absolute favorite male fragrance. I stole my brothers bottle that has maybe 5ml left.
Its an absolute best perfume for men no questions asked. Fresh and sweet. I tried wearing it but its not the same deal on my skin. Anyways an absolute yes i hope to buy myself a small bottle just to have it.

If i were a man this would be my signature.

This scent has been my signature scent since it was released in 2013. I remember the day of discovery like yesterday. My best friend and I had gone shopping. We stopped in to Sephora to check out new fragrances as we always did when shopping. At the time, I usually wore more loud, young fragrances, and I was in the mood to venture out. I wanted something a bit more elegant, and to show people that I was about to enter my 30's.... I was no longer a spring chicken, a bit clueless about life... I was entering wiser, more grown up times in my life, when I would attend wine tastings over tail-gate parties (I was dating a sommelier at the time).... And there it was... This simple, understated bottle, with a white linen-finished paper label, stating that it was for gentlemen only.... Was I a gentleman?... I sprayed to find out...

Love at first smell.... I have not been able to stop wearing it since. I buy 2 or 3 bottles at a time (just in case it ever gets discontinued)... I wear it more in the spring and fall, on sunny days. It is a bit too rich for super hot summer days, and it is a bit too vibrant and airy for the frigid cold winter... But the magic that happens on a crisp, sunny spring or fall afternoon when you spray this on.... It is soft, spicy, uplifting.

The violet and pink pepper are the main players for me... The cedar sits firmly in the backdrop as if to offer them a floor to spin around on while they stare into each others eyes with love, while talking to their casual friends of mandarin, and incense, and their eccentric flighty buddy of nutmeg lingers in and out of the room.... This fragrance is MAGIC to me. It will be tough finding a replacement signature scent if this is ever discontinued.

XPolyX

I really wish this thing lasts longer. If your looking for a summer fragrance forget ever buying this it smells nice but it has no performance at all.

I initially bought this thinking it a better version of Dior sauvage (EDT) and it genuinely smelt better and it still does. However I am extremely let down by the performance.

Filosykos

My batch is from '17 and I get really good performance. Over 6 hours easy . So i don't get the negative comments on performance. Oh yes it smells amazing. Who cares if Luca Turin hates it.

Victor Marin

If the duration of this fragrance was more than 3 hours it would be an absolute success. The smell is so good and addictive, but the sillage and fixation is horrible. I have to put 15-20 sprays to feel it for 4 o 5 hours.

dmd63

Smells so good, but it performs so bad... shame.

Just wore this the one time, back 2013/2014. I remember loving the smell, but hating the performance.

For the scent I give 10/10, for the performance 3/10.

This smells great. Almost a barbershop vibe, clean sweet a little fruity. Really not getting much smoke at all. Preformance is pretty bad honestly. Definitely a skin scent. Almost no projection. Fantastic for work or in the spring.

The best is gentleman only absolute❤️ I also like this one for casual meetings!

Givenchy..... Y U DO ME LIKE DIS??
I was a big fan of Casual Chic as you can tell from my profile, and caught a whiff of this at a store once but didn't have the bucks for it, thinking it is a very similar woody to my favourite fragrance: Casual Chic.

Boy was I wrong. :) This feels very disappointing as I was very excited to get this fragrance and replace Casual Chic as my signature, because according to other reviewers it was just as versatile and impressive. It's not.

- It is entirely too smoky, the smokiness of it overwhelms the wood which turns me off immediately.
- It lasts barely a couple of hours on my skin, that does not even change on clothes unlike other fragrances.
- Layering it with casual chic might actually be a good solution to how weak it is, but I'm not about to waste my signature discontinued fragrance to support it.
-I can only see myself wearing this during the winter, the smokiness can be a bit suffocating in the heat, might work during colder days of fall and spring... but no summer, trust me I tried.

All in all, probably the worst disappointment I suffered, right up there next to Luna Rossa Ocean.

4/10 I might let the perfume mature and not use it until December or January and try again. With every spray I do now I hope to overcome the disappointment, but it never goes away :(

#227 in my "Tour de Fragrance"

I won't say this is original in any way. There are a number of fragrances out there which have the same woody, musky, leathery, ambery, spicy notes, perhaps with different emphasis here and there. I just think Givenchy does it best. I very much like the Intense and Absolute flankers as well, but I have the Gentleman EDP on my shelf primarily for the better performance. The EDTs are all 3-4 hours of longevity on the skin, at best. Unless you really lay it on your clothing heavy no one will know you're wearing it by lunch. Also, while I miss the muskiness of the EDT, I really like Iris notes, which the EDP has, and the others do not. I should probably try layering them.

SmellMyCheese

My favorite of the (modern) Givenchy Gentleman line.

This is one of those fragrances that people could wear to the office, but it has some personality it's not just a generic cologne. It's clean soapy and fresh, but it has this violet sweetness underneath the clean cut veneer that pushes through.

Someone else mentioned Gucci Pour Homme II below as a similar to, and while this does go warmer and less like "tea" and more like an amber, the sweet violet heart of this fragrance will remind you of the brilliant GPH II at some points.

On occasion, I feel a bit of a Cool Water scent memory coming to me also.

Very nicely blended for a modern designer this one.

Dylanturek

Ok this is my second review. After wearing this in my spring/summer rotation for about 3 months, this is now a love. The one thing that was holding this back was the longevity and sillage. Well I don't know what happened, but this is now a beast mode scent for me! I don't know if it's me or the jus or what: all I know is that this is no longer the sort of thing I need to reapply throughout the day just to get a bit when I move around me office. No, this is now the sort of thing I need to think about to restrain from choking myself out and others around me from over doing it. I'm starting to think I must have had COVID for a while and a lack of smell was ruining my perception of longevity. Whatever the reason, this scent is now 100% signature worthy. I won't do it for fear of wearing it out from over use (that's what happened to me with Prada l'homme), but this is the perfect office scent that will get you noticed and give you a clean and attractive confidence. Wear it with a sharp business casual outfit and you'll be standing two inches taller with the sort of pride that comes from knowing you're the shit. What else offers that kind of vibe/performance for a similar price? I get that same thing from explorer, Prada l'homme (before I played it out), The One Grey, sultan vetiver by Nishane, and Missonni Wave. Honestly, the Givenchy house has to be my favorite designer at this point. Between the Boisee during the cooler months, Gentlemen Only and Gentlemen Givenchy Gentlemen Intense, this house has something for every situation and season and puts out the sort of quality that often beats even more expensive designers/niche brands. If you're the sort of person who generally commands a bit of respect at work and you dress sharp, don't wait on this fragrance. Go out and get you some now! You won't regret it at all: in fact, you'll be so glad you did.

sammEslappa

This is a really good fresh woody fragrance, almost gives me OG luna rossa vibes but without the lavender and some added pepper/smoke. I almost never get compliments but surprisingly this one got me multiple in one wearing. It’s fresh, woody, and smoky. The smokiness is not something to be afraid of though, it’s not overwhelming just a great touch. performance is good as well, solid 5+ hours for me with moderate projection after 3-4 sprays. This is a great under the radar fresh fragrance with some depth. For the price of 60 or lower it is definitely worth it

scottgiles86

Even though it's generic, it smells great...really great. The problem is that smell only lasts for 20 minutes before it's a skin scent, and will fade away completely in 3 hours. If this one performed average at best it would have gotten way more hype. Dzarsos' review below is accurate. If Givenchy was going for an understated fragrance, this one took it a bit too far - no point in wearing one at all if no one including yourself can smell it.

jasongriff123

I have a partial of this up for grabs (UK only) 65/100ml remaining. Message me if interested.

SmellyCat101

Smoooth and spicy. Very elegant on a man and as a woman I can tell you that we love it on men.

Bigmike650

So I see this gets compared to YSL L’homme Libre, but I honestly don’t see it. I used to own Libre when it first came out and it was my signature scent in high school. The stuff was a beast of a performer off my skin, this on the other hand isn’t. I also don’t think they smell the same at all, but just my opinion. Either way, I still like Gentlemen Only. I think it smells quite nice 👍🏽 it’s fresh and spicy to me, and has a slight smokey smell to it probably due to the Birch and Incensé notes it has. Not too smokey by any means though. Perfectly balanced fragrance in my opinion. Could easily be a signature scent.

Tshahb

Underrated masterpiece. So so much better than the rest of the Gentleman range. It's unique and performs well, getting a lot of compliments. I like that It doesn't have any of the typical shouty masculine notes, and that the notes it does have are delicately blended.

DonChako

What @Dzarsos said below was such an inspiration. Immersed me better than any commercial ever created. Hope someday soon I can have that. But onto the scent:
This was my very first cologne, and a good luck charm at that. Why? Because at the time I only reached for it when I had to go to court (which was habitual)lol that’s right. I’d go to the Ross rack store, pick out some dress pants, a Kenneth Cole shirt, belt & tie. As a rule my dad always made me cut my hair to present myself proper to the judge. I went into an ulta and asked the SA “what would a boy trying to be seen as a man wear?” She smiled and reached for the freshly released Givenchy and assured whatever the occasion, this will be the battery in your back. To this day this rings true. The entire line really could outfit a man and satisfy the wanderer to look no further. I also have GO Chic that I bust out exclusively for company meetings since it’s discontinued. Never lost a case btw, and I’ve grown out of that juvenile jaunt fortunately unscathed and I honestly feel this cologne is what made the public defenders give a damn.

A man with a well-manicured beard, accented with 5-o’clock shadow, steps into his walk-in closet after a shower. He is greeted by a sea sweaters, suits, and blazers - all in muted browns, greys, and charcoal blacks – with the occasional flash of pastel purple and French blue dotting the otherwise uniform white of his numerous collared shirts.

Today, however, he is going for something a bit more casual. He pulls on some understated, but classy, single-button boxer shorts, and an A-sleeve (‘beater’) shirt, then grabs a pair of slightly-faded light-blue jeans off of a shelf. They are right on the line between “skinny” and “relaxed” fit, hugging his hips, but flowing down around his legs. After a moment’s thought, a simple, grey, cashmere sweater completes the ensemble.

Heading down out of his bedroom, he snags a pair of “casual dress” socks, and makes his way to the door. Taking a quick seat, he pulls them on, and eases his feet into a pair of warm brown, matte polished, slip-on leather shoes. As he springs back to his feet, he shoves the sleeves of his sweater up to mid-forearm, exposing a thick thatch of dark hair running up both arms, and the tail-end of a tattoo peeking out of one sleeve.

From a coat rack by the door, he grabs a well-worn, well-cared-for leather jacket – matching the colour of his shoes – and slides it on with practised ease. Turning to an oaken table, he snatches his keys up from a ceramic bowl, then flips open a small humidor, and grabs an upper mid-range cigar – let’s call it a Fuente Opus X – and cuts it with the v-cutter he keeps nearby. Checking the inner pocket of his jacket, he reassures himself that he has a box of matches in there, before drawing out a cigar carrier, inserting his Fuente, and replacing it.

Hand on the door handle, ready to leave, he has a flash of inspiration, and darts back to his bedroom, removing his jacket as he goes. Tossing the jacket on his bed, he turns to a nearby bureau, and grabs his signature scent: Gentlemen Only by Givenchy.

***

This is the energy this fragrance gives off – it is elegant, but understated - clearly very masculine, but also well put-together. It’s the scent of a man who is confident in who he is, and knows he wants to smell nice, but is not bothered with drawing attention to himself. He would rather impress those who choose to come into his vicinity, than pull the attention of every person in the room with the loudness of his fragrance.

He’s a smoker, but not in a nervous way – he smokes as a way of stretching out a good moment, for pleasure and comradery. The smell lingers about him, but like his fragrance, it does not overwhelm, it invites.

It’s the scent of a gentleman.

***

Okay, so – how do I, personally, feel about it? Well, for the scent composition, I unhesitatingly give this a 10/10. It is a lovely fragrance, perfectly suited for the kind of man I’ve described – or one who wants to project those characteristics out into the world. It walks the line between “warm” and “fresh” with a casual ease that I would love to see more of in modern men’s perfumery, and accents both with just the right amount of spicy herbaceousness sprinkled on top. It’s a little sharp, a little woody, a little bright, and quite warm. In short, scent profile-wise, it’s a stunner.

…But…

This fragrance has some remarkably awful longevity. I have encountered body sprays that had better staying power, projection, and price – which is an absolute shame, because the scent itself really is incredibly lovely.

I gave it my official “review wear” today, and this factor really put me off as the day went on. For the first hour-and-a-bit, it is the lovely, warm, bright, uplifting masculine epitome of casual chic I alluded to earlier; then, at about the two-hour mark, the mandarin, birch, and nutmeg that fill out the opening all but vanish, leaving pink pepper, vetiver, cedar, and incense, with a little wisp of violet leaf dancing in the background, giving a little touch of remaining intrigue; then, by the three-hour mark, all that’s left is the smallest trace of pepper, vetiver, and musk, leaving the impression that one showered hours earlier with a cake of old-fashioned “masculine” soap – or that one is being haunted by the ghost of L’Envol de Cartier.

So, this leaves me with a bit of a sticky situation in giving a final score. I fully adore the scent when it’s present, but that is a damningly brief amount of time, and I’m not really able to forgive it that flaw. If it were in the $20-30 USD range, it would be forgivable – but it retails closer to $50, and that’s squarely in “needs to have some amount of performance” territory. Thus, in the end, I will score it as follows:

Scent: 10/10
Longevity: 2/10
Overall: 6/10

Joocebawks808

I would absolutely make this my signature scent! I remember getting a small bottle of this years ago as part of a Sephora sample bag. Fast forward, and I ordered another full size bottle and it really brings back memories! Just how I remember it. Sounds extreme, but this scent is perfect to me. I just wish it performed better. It could just be my skin chemistry, but the scent disappears in only a few hours. 2-3 tops. There's no way this would last a work day. However, I enjoy this fragrance so much I'm ok wearing it after a shower or before bed when I can just enjoy it for myself and I don't need it to have any effect on my surroundings. It smells spicy from the pepper and nutmeg, and the green mandarin citrus on top is wonderful. Dry down is a nice woody/incense base in the best way possible. Not church/temple like incense. Just a light smokiness. Honestly, I might just overspray hard tomorrow and see how it does. As a bonus, it can be had pretty reasonably priced at discounters. It's a nice departure from their regular gentleman line. Give it a try if you haven't already.

Dylanturek

Oh man. I so badly wanted this to replace ysl libre. The fragrance is close enough on scent, but it lacks longevity. A beautiful opening and drydown, very reminiscent of libre, but it quickly becomes a skin scent before disappearing after 4 hours or so. Today was the first really warm day of the year, but I'm in an office and not moving around much so I'm hoping that as it gets hotter and I'm more active in the coming months that the scent will come alive. Even if not, I'm glad I found a similar fragrance to libre, which I miss something awful...

Update 2 weeks later:
This juice smells so damn good. Don't buy it because it's reminiscent of libre. Buy gentlemen only because it's a gorgeous, understated fragrance that's versatile, yet doesn't last more than 4 hours. If you can reapply halfway through your day, this would be an amazing signature scent. If you are going to a half day conference, an important meeting or speaking engagement and you want to feel and smell confident and exceedingly competent: this fragrance exudes class and sophisticated masculinity. It just doesn't last as long as I so badly wish it did. 10/10 scent. Criminally underrated.

Tony Shades

Very nice rich woody spicy dark blue type fragrance that smells like a Bleu de Chanel & Terre d'Hermes layering. If you like those fragrances, you need to try this Givenchy as well. Highly recommended.👍

Veronjn111

This is very interesting. It changes a lot on the skin. Very woody bright citrus at first. And dries down to a woody earthy almost balsamic sweeter scent. After four-ish hours I smelled my fiance's wrist, and I was immediately transported back to 2005 getting ready for church with my grandpa. It reminds me so much of the specific after shave he used to wear. I wish I could remember what it was called.

Demus Anum

Such a beautiful fresh clean smoky inscent scent like out of shower.

lorddom

Gentlemen Only was probably the first designer fragrance I purchased, and ever since 2013/14 I wore it as a daily for a couple years straight. I believe it's a versatile fragrance, but peaks in appeal in the Spring and Fall. A moderately strong EDT, I had no problem wearing it for any occasion. Despite never being asked by another guy what I have on while sporting this Givenchy EDT, I was complimented frequently by my female friends for smelling good. If this is what you'd be looking to buy - a sort of background aura to put on, a signature scent to adapt - perhaps Gentlemen Only could be a winner for you? I purchased my first bottle for $80 back when it was a new release, and another later on for $60, both which I find great deals on such a quality cologne - so if you see this classic for cheaper don't hesitate buying!

Marcjohn86

First impressions: This is great for the price of around $45, not a lot is going for that price these days, certainly not many Givenchy fragrances, and this is really nice. This does have similar DNA to YSL's L'Homme Libre, the violet leaf is quite toned down in this however, but it has a similar backbone to it where you might even confuse the two with one another. Honestly, this in my opinion, if you miss Libre, don't spend the ridiculous prices that most sellers post them for. If you can get it for close to retail, sure go for it, but this will I think satisfy the need at a fraction of the price ($45 for this, $250+ for Libre unfortunately). In terms of performance, I can't really say but for me Libre is a moderate performer, maybe a better performer than most freshies and this seems to have similar performance out of the opening, maybe Libre is a little bit stronger, and Libre definitely is louder as well I'd say with that super sharp violet note. Otherwise, I'm not certain about the performance yet, I'll have to come back to report back on it at a later date.

What I was thinking when this dried down was that it actually reminded me of a warm weather version of Tom Ford's Ombre Leather, the violet leaf has a similar effect and it has a similar sort of smell, but it's more airy and fresh. I know that Ombre Leather Parfum is considered the warm weather version of Ombre Leather, but that's a $150+ fragrance, this is about $100 less, possibly even more than that, and it's also way fresher than the Ombre Leather Parfum. I think you'd wear it during the day in spring, fall, summer, and in casual situations and it'd be a perfect office scent too for all year round I think.

This is some good stuff, too bad I don't think this line exists anymore, but you can still get this one while it's cheap thankfully.

blueberrypoodle

The scent is SO BEAUTIFUL. I gave it way as it barely lasted more than 20 minutes on me but that may be a me problem. I think the smell is a masterpiece and hope one day there is an evolved version of it

I have been on a kick of masculine violet leaf fragrances and classic smelling Fougeres, Barbershops and Citrus Aromatics. This isn't very expensive and works well in a number of seasons and situations.

The violet leaf, pink pepper, green mandarin and birch really stand out to me... With the incense, vetiver and musky notes coming behind to round things out. Very solid.

Couple others that are similiar but will very in smell and quality.

Green mandarine is not for everyone. This scent is all about that green mandarine which is not like a typical orange/mandarine accord AT ALL. it is not a fresh note either. I don't like it, perhaps you will like it, but better don't blind buy.

Guitar 2016

This is a Wonderful and Lovely fragrance, Fresh, Clean, Refined, Unique, Modern and Complex. It is suitable for Rainy Days. A good perfume can change your mood and I must tell you honestly that I really enjoy it. When this scent develops on skin and its smell changes over time. It opens up with like fresh spicy , slightly sweet, spices and floral notes in the background then dry down is a bit smoky musky woody. The Pink Pepper , Violet Leaf and Incense notes are dominant in this perfume. I am glad that I have the chance to buy Givenchy Gentleman Only as It is truly a delightful Hidden Gem that should be talked out more ! Guys do yourselves a favor and at least sample it. Longevity is good, Highly Recommended.
Two Thumbs Up.
Bravo Monsieur Jean Jacques !

The smell is great! It’s a very good office or every day scent. It does not last long at all. Maybe 2-3 hours tops.

fromthebayandaroundtheway

I remember when this came out way back in 2013. Givenchy Gentlemen Only just kind of hung out in the background in comparison to all these other fragrances that were dropping around that time (there were a lot!). I would always sample it when I went to the shops but I was never compelled to pick it up. It seemed fresh and smoky and a bit aromatic. However it just did not stand out to me. Well, 9 years later I decided to try it again. Color me impressed! Violet, cedar, birch leaf and nutmeg nestled in patchouli done beautifully (the swirling incense and beautiful musk only add more depth to this scent). I took a few decanted samples home; my local Marionnaud has a great sales assistant who is also very generous. When I got to wearing these samples I was blown away with how great Gentlemen Only smells. This fragrance screams fresh and clean and is perfect for springtime but was killing it in the cold autumn air. I get the comparisons to L'Homme Libre by YSL but Gentlemen Only just seems brighter and more crisp (much better note separation). This is for the 30 and up crowd and can be worn in or out of the office. I am most definitely going to get a full bottle and finally give this fragrance the love it deserves.

Sharp watery minty with a slight spicy sweetness

Mature

Pleasant but not one of my favourites

Braza2013

Clean. Fresh. Light. But potent. This fragrance is how I imagine elves smell like.

Younger people might find it old fashioned. I’m 47 and to me this is virility without the immaturity. It’s harmony, nostalgia and faith in the future, all in one bottle.

It’s a perfect everyday scent, and I will never not have a bottle of this for as long as I live.

discardedandroid

Very good. Clean, fruity, earthy, woody. Quite unique as far as "fresh" fragrances go. Overlooked. Recommend.

neslind

Slighty citrusy, woodsy, on top of musk, tiny bit of incense, and a big violet vibe. The color perfectly matches the scent, whilst the name represents the masculine vibe in the scent. Its very nice. One of their best frags. As others have said perfmance is average. However stays a skin scent for quite a while and will hang wround clothes well particularly the musk. the price is also very good.

9.1/10

I also really love their Gentlemen boiseé and prive. I recommend you check those (they are more winter/fall frags though, read notes before buying them)

@SterlingArcher76

I think 4 years is fair longevity for a frag of this type. My Interlude Man cost 4 times as much and only lasts 3 years at most.

SterlingArcher76

I blind bought this on a whim. The price is very fair. I would say I like it but don’t love it. Spicy citrus at the beginning. Then it drys to nice woody incense scent. Can wear it year about definitely cooler days are best. Nice for the day time, dumb reach. I wouldn’t call this a night out scent at all. Longevity is rather weak, under 4 hours for me with a slightly below average projection. Considering the price, I wasn’t disappointed and the opening is very nice. Spray heavy and keep a bottle to take with you lol.

joviva

A beautiful take on the "fresh smoky citrus" fragrance genre. The opening masterfully incoporates mandarin orange with incense to provide an extremely pleasant journey to a smoky/woody drydown. It, unfortunately, does not last very long and projects moderately, but reapplying is no issue with the opening being so good.

ReminiScent

This is good. I can already tell that I’m going to need to leave room for a return visit on my initial impression. I was expecting something with much more depth and density based off the pink pepper, vetiver, and incense being the most agreed upon notes. It’s very watery though. Not light, just missing something for me. I immediately smelled violet in this. I mean an overdose of it and I didn’t remember seeing it in the breakdown but it’s because it’s one of those tiny blocks up there that people don’t notice apparently. Because of that violet it’s dominating the fragrance to my nose and I can’t really see how it’s any more special than Burberry Touch or A&F first instinct. I’ll give more wears but I would trust the sub 4 rating personally on this one. Definitely not bad and it is like able but if you’re itching for something else I’d put this on the back burner.

Applejuice1025

I went to the store looking for something new & “trendy”. The lady I spoke to recommended Gentlemen Only which is neither new nor trendy and I instantly loved it. The person that recommended it to me was close to my age (late 40’s) but the person I actually bought it from was in her early 20’s and she told me I was making a great choice. This tells me just how mass appealing this fragrance is. I’m glad that I smell great when I wear this and that I don’t smell like everyone else but at the same time I don’t know why this fragrance doesn’t get a lot more love. 20 years old to 40+ years old this will appeal to just about everyone. Put this on your “must have” list today.

ismellgood1122

This is such a hidden gem! smells amazing and performance is 8+ hours

gxbjw

Amazing, signature scent material fragrance who is totally overlooked.

Gentlemen Only is very fresh, moderately sweet and very spicy and woody. Off my skin it’s not smoky at all. Wouldn’t even have guessed that it contains incense note if I didn’t read the note breakdown.

I love it, it’s vibrant and refreshing — very good for people who live in a tropical country. It’s a playful scent so young guys can pull it off, but it’s also clean enough for mature men.

Honestly, this is my favourite Givenchy fragrance. It’s that good.

Vat1cano

I can't believe this fragrance isn't talked more often. What an amazing fragrance. It's fruity and there's a bit of subtle freshness to it. It's also very earthie and woods. It has a very classic and modern feel to it.

You can wear this during hot summers but maybe limit it to three sprays.

Really awesome fragrance. I hope this one never gets discontinued.

jbozz

Signature scent worthy fragrance right here. If I couldn’t have Bleu de Chanel I would easily pick this one. Hands down this is my favorite Givenchy fragrance, it is so classy and so elegant. I feel if it were stronger it might lose some of its understated character. I would put this head to head with Prada L’Homme for office use any day of the week, and overall I feel this is pretty versatile as well except for hot weather use and the gym. Definitely leans mostly towards professional scenarios, though. Nice shirt, slacks, dress shoes, with grooming on point, then topped off with this, hell yes. I love the presentation and juice color as well. I have 2 bottles and may add one more I love it that much!

Edit: my adoration for this just grows even more. This is Givenchy’s best men’s fragrance in my opinion, and that includes the entire iris-based Gentleman line which I’m a fan of as well. I can never be without Gentlemen Only EdT, it suits me in every way and just sparks the same love every time I smell it. There’s nothing I’d want to change about it.

Bigmike650

If anyone has a bottle of this that’s at least 75% full and is willing to swap for one of my fragrances go ahead and message me and we can negotiate a deal 👍🏽

btd069

On initial spray, i get pepper for sure mixed with mandarin. The nutmeg to my nose is not very prominent. You do get some smokiness from the birch but it's pretty subtle but the green notes are definitely there. Violet and woods come out as the citrus starts to fade away. The Patchouli is not the dirty variety, and is only in the background. Definitely get a clean showery freshness. The musk starts to come out, but i don't get much of an incense note to be honest. I don't find this very vetiver heavy. Seems pretty well blended and the notes don't pop out necessarily unless you're looking for them.

Projection is not the best, longevity is weak to average. Seem to be more of an intimate sent. Overall its a pretty nice smelling fragrance. Definitely not groundbreaking or unique to my nose. Got a pretty epic deal on this bottle as a tester with cap. Not sure i'd pay retail for this. I think the price sweet spot for this would be $35-$50 max in my opinion. Office safe.

stephen.redeker

Rarely do I vote "love" on a fragrance, but Givenchy Gentleman Only gets the love! What a beauty. Pure class in a bottle. I concur with most of the reviewers saying the same thing below.

This is absolutely perfect for a Spring day. It's blended so well and smooth: it's difficult for me to pick out one note overpowering the others. Smells clean with light woods, light sweetness, light spice, and everything nice. I see the similarity with YSL L'Homme Libre. That one is a louder version of this with the dominant vetiver and violet. Gentleman Only projects lightly but stays with you for a while, especially on clothes. You get pleasant whiffs like wearing a fresh laundered shirt.

This may not work for youngsters trying to be the life of the party or fishing for compliments. This one is for the guy that wants to please those in close range and lucky enough to sniff his scent bubble. Wear it anytime you want to smell fresh and classy.

Rainstorm

A favourite man smell of mine alongside of Fahrenheit. This is the essence of a gentleman . A gentleman who will hold your hand amongst his friends but still feel like a man. He is the more thoughtful man, with that romantic in him. He is the soulmate every woman dreams of.

Cdub5_

This is a very good fragrance.

Am I crazy, or is this opening very similar to Gucci Pour Homme II? When I put this on GPH2 instantly popped into my mind.

I wish this opening would stay and stay and stay and never leave

diegogo29

Beautiful fragrance. A little underrated IMO. Deserves a higher rating than a 3.92

It is very fresh and clean but not in your typical blue fragrance or shower gel type of vibe. Starts off with a juicy refreshing burst of citrus but right away you can feel that there is something more in this, something a little different and more special. The violet leaf and incense, although detected, are in my opinion felt more than smelled. You feel the ozonic cucumbery freshness you get from the violet leaf and you sense a little bit of smoke that adds some complexity and contrast to the freshness. You get a little more of the woody aspects and lots of clean musk as it dries down. Overall great fragrance. I can imagine this being very versatile in warmer climates or fine anytime except maybe winter or colder winter days.

I’d say performance is about average with moderate projection. Not a beast but it does not need to be. Love it. Fills a nice spot in my collection.

Would recommend to someone wanting something fresh and clean but a little different from your typical aquatics or blue fragrances.

Mina Abdo

Very elegant and fresh. I use it as office scent for hot summer days.
With over-spraying it will last longer with you.

NS2484

A warm spring day with flowers blooming and moisture on the grass. This is the epitome of a pleasant scent.

MrSpengler

I've got this as a gift, and it's a very decent fragrance; it's really fresh, balanced, and the smoky character is the one I detect the most, but it's not smoky in a "fireplace in a log cabin while snowing outside" way, no... it's in a subtle, not-fancy but elegant way. The fresh-and-spicy pink pepper is there, along with the woody notes and some very subtle, non-offending sweetness.
I don't love this fragrances, but I really liked it; I'm not sure if I would buy it myself, but if given as a gift (again, haha), I would very-happily accept it and use it. Perfect for young and not-so-young men who want a safe bet for casual and even office use, informal dates, and in general, something fresh but not marine for warm days.

Edit: this gift was given in my teenage years (more than 10 years ago); I say this because I recently went to a mall, tried it again (nostalgia) and it smells DIFFERENT. I made sure it was the same and it seems that it is. For reference, I don't remember the mall's one bottle details, but my old (gift) one has a Roman-like letter font in the label and doesn't includes the small "Paris" at the bottom (as seen in some pictures). Can someone notify me if it's a different version or if the formula changed or something?
Thanks in advance!

OhTheParfum ♥

How good is this one? ok let me say it this way: this is a fragrance i would buy again and again and again... its name says it all about this perfume! its a fragrance for Gentlemen, only!
Criminally underrated imo, its a masterpiece and the perfumer is a genius! this fragrance is the definition of very well blended, if u r a connoisseur/connaisseur in fragrance notes u look at the notes breakdown here and understand right away that its not easy to combine all thse notes together and come up with such a fine creation....idk about recent batches but i own old batches of it and i just cant get enough of the scent, perfect as a signature scent, and its a great compliment getter especially among sophisticated ladies... get this fragrance while u can !

ahmedeltobshy90

this one has its own league. one of the best floral peppery musk fragrance.

mutatismutandis

Givenchy Gentlemen Only is a nice perfume. It's got a fairly intimate sillage for most of its duration - it projects for about six or seven hours and is usually gone somewhere between eight and nine hours after application. I think it works in any season but I see it as more of a day time perfume than a night time one. It's flexible in that works in casual and office settings but I wouldn't choose it either for a formal occasion or a more intimate one. I would also say it is for a proper grown up man rather than the boys, let's say 35+, maybe 40+, but it certainly isn't "old man".

I know most people tend to talk about the incense element of this but for me it's predominantly a mandarin and patchouli partnership throughout and it gets supported in the opening by the pink pepper and bergamot; after those top notes have gone, the main supporting players to the mandarin and patchouli are the violet leaf and vetiver, and for a while the elemi and incense.

Givenchy Gentlemen Only doesn't get the attention (still less the hype) that it perhaps deserves. I think I understand the problem though: if you're a person with a few bottles you've probably chosen some others because they do whatever it is you want most from a perfume. But if you're a person with a collection (let's say 24+ bottles) then you don't reach for it often because there are so many options. It's a perfume you would be very happy to receive as a gift because it's a high quality item in every respect, but it's missing that je ne sais quoi, that little bit of indefinable magic that you can't put your finger on that makes you reach for a bottle again and again over the others on your shelf. I don't think it has been helped by some of the others in the line that weren't as good as the original (Casual Chic, Fraiche, Parisian Break) which tends to make you less likely to purchase the original in the line (or any of the other flankers). I'm not sure whether it's a failure of marketing - after all, there are plenty of inferior competitors that sell better largely because of a more vigorous marketing campaign - or whether this was a narrow miss by Jean Jacques, the perfumer. But any which way you look at it, this is a perfume you really should try.

thethe

I really wish there was a “old school gentleman vibe scale “ on fragrantica. (That in in-self would be a can of worms.) But, if there would be this would register high on the scale.
It has a vintage feel but slightly modernized.
If only we could get a “old” vs “new” smelling scale on fragrantica just as we have “feminine” vs “masculine.”
What’s the holdup? Give the users the power to decide.
Fragrance opinions skip a generation now and then though. What might smell “old-school” to me might be newly discovered by a younger nose who never grew up with an older generation.

Umairaman

Starts off as a slightly sweet (mandarin) and spicy (pepper) clean scent. As it dries down , pepper and orange part ways and it just becomes a clean woody (vetiver) and slightly smoky (incense) scent.

The incense comes across as extremely clean almost like white smoke or clean air. This is a great alternative for people who don't like the iris (lipstick) note in latest gentlemen fragrances. Average performance.

Inoffensive , safe and professional.

_k.shah7

It was my wedding day scent. Enough said.
Shockingly underrated.

Love it, totally.

But seriously, skin accord ?

Haha.

Spasticink

People must be nose-blind. On my skin this SMELLS NOTHING LIKE YSL L'Homme LIBRE. I have both on my wrists.
Beside similar opening, both are fresh but the more into dry-down there are more differences. Basically they are maybe 20-30% similar.

Still Gentlemen Only is very good scent.

Hovson

it's like in the middle of the woods the rain is slowing up a camp fire was just put out a little smoky in the air very fresh and clean stil lfrom the rain add in the pink pepper and madarin it's heaven. great price good performance last about 5 hours, hour and a half projection.. smells so high quality

yua77721

It smells great I get a lot of violet leaf but it voted few great versatile fragrance

EauDeBaldy

On the initial spray, it smells so damn good and I love it.

After a minute or two, it dies down quickly to the vetiver and more calmer notes listed and ends up putting me in the "Like" level.

It's a real shame because, I initially was going to buy a big bottle of this when I first smelled it in the dept. store awhile back, but as I wear this now ( sampler ) it let me down that it basically turns into a skin scent and that love I had when I initially sprayed it, only lasted for a moment.

The fragrance is not bad by any measure but, when you get that blast and love something, then quickly it disappears and goes into another level, that is what keeps me from buying this for permanent use.

A good office/spring/summer/daytime scent.

Mr.dondunna7

The vibe I get when I spray this is putting on a fresh clean suit going to the office. Bringing that sexiness to the office and turning heads at a upscale downtown bar afterwards after a productive day. Smooth, fresh, sexy and mass appealing. It's called Gentleman Only for a reason. I get about 8 hours longevity on my skin and 2 hours of projection. Truly love this fragrance!!

abahvdbs

Mildy Fresh Clean/Musky- Orange-Creamy- Lightly Floral

Just like the opening of Gentleman Only Absolute, creamy orange citrus sweet at first like an orange creamsicle but instead of a spicy accord being added in like Gentleman Only Absolute, Gentleman Only adds a fresh clean and lightly floral accord to the orange creamsicle accord, then in the dry-down the fragrance turns down a bit remaining mildly fresh clean linen/musky with a hint of floral and that orange creamsicle sweetness in the background;

very fresh & clean scent, reminds me of lighter Gentleman Only Absolute in the opening to mid and Lacoste L.12.12 Blanc (White) mid to dry.;

i wouldn't say it's for 'corporate business' or 'formal' settings though with it being a Givenchy fragrance it has the quality to it to do so (but isn't a 'serious' fragrance), it's so fresh & clean & semi-sweet without being offensive it's great for casual (office, gym, day out, etc.) and even business casual settings. Its lightness makes Gentlemen Only more of a day-time, spring, summer, and even fall, scent.

Projection/Sillage': GOOD, very aromatic, projects good for such a light frag, good 'scent bubble' radiates within 6 feet for about 2 hour, then in-close.

Performance/Longevity: GOOD, last on average 7-8 hours

TheLanciaFan

Great scent. Very versatile so you can use it at the office, in a date, in a cool night with friends... I keep it in the car to use it when going outside so tha is the versatility it offers. But....horrendous sillage, very poor longevity, even with 9 sprays. A real pitty. That´s THE downside that will make me not buying it again.

hpw_96

Pleasant, but rather boring imo

Martin__

It's been a while since I sold my bottle - 4-5 years or so.

This is a decent spicy and woody fragrance which rather should get its own name and become a "father" of a brand new Givenchy masculine lineup.

It opens up fresh, green and smoky, sadly - synthetic as well. A sweet synthetic fruity pulp mixed with some incense. This lasts up to 2 hours. Dries down to a nutmeg with a pinch of pink pepper wrapped in vetiver (which is a main player here) and patchouli. The base itself does not differ from an actual drydown IMO.

Longevity is around 6 to 8 hours, sillage is poor to medium.

It's nice and spicy, but does it stand out in a mainstream crowd anyhow? No. It does gather compliments as a nice office scent but that's it.

A 3/5 (6/10) from me.

baranbatu.04

It's safe to say that this is my favorite scent. It is very versatile you can wear to a date night and it becomes addictive, you can wear it anywhere any time its really long lasting and it has really nice projection.I really recommend this scent

Kingonaire

I think this is perfect for date nights, super amazing scent. i had a female friend take my my other bottle, so i had to get another because of my love for this scent. women LOVEEEE it

SkunkApe

You're sitting by a mountain stream. The water is cold and clear. There is a little smoke from a nearby campfire, and across the stream you can see violets blooming in the meadow.

I find this to be a great masculine scent, evoking the outdoors but appropriate for the office. It's understated, and doesn't fill the room.

OnThatNote...

Smooth, and genuinely, modern gentlemanly.
It is well blended. Very pleasant. True, it doesn't project for a long time, but if you like it, who cares if the rest of the world can't smell it.
I feel that the incense and musk are present from start to finish. The pink pepper is prominent at the start. To me, the cedar really stands out in the middle. I would prefer patchouli then vetiver then cedar as the top three notes (in descending order) of the middle. That would probably lean it a little more mature though.
This is a good everyday scent for a 30+ guy and a good dress-up scent for an under 30 guy. A lot of the reviews below are spot on.

Anafiel

This is nice. clean kind of green scent. Better lasting than most Givenchy. Spring summer wear... maybe fall but like early fall before it gets super cold

tanjim_khan

It's a vetiver based fragrance, quite woody. The DNA is quite unique however it smells synthetic. It could make a good office wear, as it's decent citrusy, woody, clean. Performance is a pity. This sits close to the skin for a few hours.

6/10

drzboy

This has been my first choice in fragrance for about 5-6 years now. I found this fragrance due to my admiration for YSL libre(Men-now discontinued :( ). My friend had YSL Libre and I didn't want to smell the same way, so I ended up purchasing this, and I'm very glad as this in my option is much more mature while still being a bit youthful and playful, and much more versatile (LIBRE by YSL was more of a night time/summer vibe in my opinion).

Very good compliment getter, but in no case overwhelming. Long lasting for the most part, and silage is moderate. I usually go for 3-4 sprays as I prefer to not over douse in fragrance. As said, GENTLEMAN -- I think this is accurate, charming, strong, masculine, sexy with a tad of playfulness and comfort. Timeless and memorable. 25, so this has been in my rotation through my 20s.

Nimashil2020

Love love love. I just finished my bottle and buy another one. It's so good it's woody smoky sexy. Blind buy!!! Yes Yes. I got too many compliments on it. Good luck.

Caldrumr

Not bad.
It's a slightly honey-sweet, musky wood.
Vetiver and birch, incense and musk, and some spices.
Classy and refined.

Edit: I'm afraid I jumped the gun on my description of this fragrance. I should have waited longer.
Unfortunately, the late dry-down is mostly a generic "amber" note. Boring and synthetic.
So while I did enjoy the fragrance earlier on, later in the day, it becomes pretty dull and uninteresting, without any depth or character.
Still nice for the first several hours.

Bison blues

Own +200 scents one of my favorites

8B1M3

There's definitely some powerful wood and pepper bouquet when you first spray it on. Nutmeg is noticeable. Has a sophisticated feel and people almost always compliment me when I wear it in moderation. Quite long-lasting and very ad hoc for Autumn/Winter days. I only use it on special occasions. Gentlemen Only by Givenchy is absolutely recommended for people over 30.

PushaHndrxx

This was my first scent I got for my birthday in 8th grade. I got one of those Sephora tester things where you get a bunch of samples and get to pick a full bottle of one. And I chose this one. It starts off for me a smooth creamy mix of pink pepper and a very clean vetiver. As it Dries down a smooth note of incense becomes more prominent. It’s a very safe and modern fragrance. Projection for me is Decent with about 4-5 hours of moderate projection then it becomes a skin scent. Definitely blind buy worthy

monkey500

Givenchy Gentlemen Only smells like ‘silky smooth’ and ‘smoky cool’ - this would make a good date-night fragrance or maybe even for the office: sure... it might be a little faceless or generic but whoever is close to you will probably like how you smell which is never to be ‘sniffed at.’

caifan

Gentlemen Only It has a very sober woody touch, in fact it seems me a serious fragrance to go to work in a suit and tie. The incense is remarkable and its sweetness is strong in the first minutes but then fades away. It has spicy smell as nutmeg and pink pepper, some soapy. I find it a fragrance for a mature audience. Its longevity and sillage is average. Nothing spectacular but correct.

Von Serj

I have smelt the frag in a perfume shop and I really liked it, but I did not keep the paper strip to see how much it lasts. Few days later I decided to buy it from Notino, I have read some comments about the longevity issue, but I was not expecting to be that weak. The smell is very nice but the performance maybe half an hour at the most projection and perfume life on the skin around 2 hours tops. Even overspraying does not work with this frag. Even though the perfume profile is nice, the lack of performance makes it less enjoyable.

First the cons: weak sillage and even worse longevity. Within an hour, this scent is completely absent from my skin unless I spray heavy.. This is definitely a bummer coming from a name like Givenchy, not to mention the price tag.

As for the pros, it is a very pleasant and relaxed fragrance. For those that wore the original Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger, you may agree that although the notes are different, the two are similar. This is very floral and then airy on the drydown. What I call airy, someone else may call musk. But the musk is very soft and well, gentle.

This is a Sunday morning/afternoon scent, perfect for Mother’s Day or church. Navy slacks with a crisp white button-up. I won’t buy this again, although I really do enjoy it.

The architect

This is a wonderful fragrance that is severely underrated. It just smells so amazing and has pure class It is also very office safe. You will not offend anyone. It has gotten me some serious, unsolicited compliments, even in situations or from people who never complimented any of my other fragrances I rotate. You guys should definitely at least sample this or just get yourself a bottle, which at about $50, is a steal. This is signature worthy, along with my other favorites, Dior Eau For Men and Prada Intense. I consider these 3 designer fragrances some of the best ever and a great value for the money.Regards.

giangibus

A nice and well done mix between Bleu de Chanel and Terre d'Hermes with which it shares several notes such as incense, nutmeg, vetiver, patchouli, cedar, pepper, musk etc.
It's quite elegant and refined, a solid release from Givenchy with decent performance, nice presentation and above all it can be purchase at a very low price today.

mixter99

Once upon a time when I was 16 I went on one of my first solo journeys by plane.
At the airport I splashed myself with this - the Givenchy light blue bottle as I remember it. I sat down on my flight and this nice girl in her twenties was next to me.

She boldly told me I smell so good and at the end of the flight she took a piece of paper out and wrote her number down on it so we could meet.

I don't think it's a coincidence, I only blame it on Givenchy Gentleman Only

This is a clean, modern sweet scent for nearly any occasion but one cannot expect anything mega unique - it contains a generic modern DNA and it packs quite a punch. Check this one out guys

For me 7/10

Luvascent06

if perfumes could speak, this one would be saying "what are you looking at?" this is such an intimidating bottle, its so sleek and fresh and heavy. its a very classic bottle. and the fragrance is really nice too. i dont mind at all if my man were wearing this. its literally "gentlemen" like. its a very elegant semi-fruity with a hint of muskiness fragrance. i like it.

zadewee

Reminds me of putting on a fresh, clean suit and tie. I love it!

MaiCecile

This isn't my husband's favourite scent (that would be Bvlgari Aqva) but it's my favourite scent on him. The beautiful woodiness of this, combined with the freshness of pepper and vetiver make me want to nuzzle up to him. It's no surprise I love it, since it shares many notes with my own signature scent, Coco Mademoiselle. It's hard for a scent to be both cozy and fresh, but somehow Gentlemen Only does that. A true classic!

gman298429

Wow...very pleasant. Very smooth. Very sexy. The incense and the musk is a great combination. Definitely for the self-assured confident businessman who wants to bring a little more sexiness to the office. Also makes a perfect date night fragrance. Conservative enough for the office, but bold enough to turn some heads and have the ladies thinking "Wow, what's he wearing?" Wear it to the office and have another spray for the upscale downtown bar, after work. As the name says, this truly is for GENTLEMEN only. Great juice! 9.5/10.

I was at the post office yesterday dropping off some packages and got smacked in the face by a guy's fragrance - it smelled like Aventus to me.
So on my way out I asked him if he's wearing Creed Aventus. He said it's Givenchy. He couldn't recall the type, but he said it has a purple-ish color.
I said, "Gentlemen Only?" and he snapped his fingers and was like, "That's it! That's the one.". I thanked him and left.

Smelled so darn similar to Aventus, I was really surprised.
Not bad at all!

jayo4K

Technically I don't think this is a flanker of Givenchy Gentleman, but I definitely smell the similarity. They both open up pretty fresh, with Gentlemen Only being slightly more so, but that's where the similarities end.

In the opening I smell some of the pink pepper, but mostly some sort of melon-y note (maybe the mandarin?). The freshness only lasts here for about 30 minutes though, then the drydown starts to come in. Here I get the incense, birch, and patchouli. It's such a great combination, I love this smell. The only bad part is that the freshness is completely gone, and the drydown notes are pretty heavy and dense compared to the opening. Because of this, I find this fragrance kind of tricky to wear. The opening is more for spring/summer but the drydown is more of fall/winter. So if I had to categorize it, I'd go with the mild months, spring and fall, and possibly even winter. I think this would be too heavy in the summer and may be too cloying (since the drydown comes in so quickly), although I've yet to try it in high heat. I could also see this becoming a good rainy day fragrance.

Overall, 8.5/10

I_smell_good

IT SMELLS OR WE CAN SAY MANCERA AOUD VIOLET SMELLS EXACTLY 100% LIME THIS,,,
The fragrance is very fresh loud mass pleasing,
Good for day to day and office wear for summera
Can be used in fall too coz it consists of spicy notes like pink pepper
All in all a great fresh fragrance

jacked 24/7

I tested this at the bx yesterday and holy cow it lasts surprisingly long. The dry down is magical.. takes a long a** time to get there but when it does it’s great. To me this is an odd fragrance slightly and this is coming from a guy who wears Kouros and encre noir regularly. I can’t really place my finger on it, doesn’t smell really like a summer or winter fragrance but I’d lean more towards warmer weather with it. It smells good in the opening and middle but not ground breaking. I’m looking at the longevity bar and Idk what happened wit me but this stuff lasts!! Through a workout and change of clothes 17 hours later I still smell it on top of my wrist. And that dry down is really dope. This will be a purchase for me. I can’t get into what the notes smell like (I’m just getting into this fragrance journey) but I will say it smells masculine and a bit rugged but totally refined and classy. Has sort of a generic and I don’t mean that in a bad way, opening. That’s reminiscent of many of today’s “blue” colognes. But yet it has a more masculine tone to it. Like an older brother of these kiddie colognes. Slightly older. Very well done cologne. Like I said not groundbreaking but the dry dry down is wonderful and longevity is beast. At least on my skin. I can see this used for dates, office, casual, dress up... you name it. It’s quite fresh but you won’t be smelling like a frat boy so that’s a plus!

My 4th Review on this gem after a sincere love connection for the past 6 years.

Now I am down to the last few ml of my 2013 bottle and I am happy that I have another 2015 unopened backup bottle.

This has been my signature for the past 6 years and there hasn't been any other vetiver & incense combination fragrance that I have come across that can beat this!

A lovely unique fragrance that always brings me joy when I apply it. An all round year fragrance with decent performance. Always complimented(plus factor). Love it!!!!

5 Star Fraghead

This wonderful masculine scent belongs in the same arena as Valentino V Pour Homme and Rasasi Hawas I kid you not. All 3 scents being modern, refreshing, sensual, sophisticated, all having pink pepper, patchouli, nutmeg and some amount of birch as far as I know.

This fragrance needs more love,it is elegant and really quite timeless and a superb addition to any decent man's wardrobe.
I get good longevity from this at about 7 hours from 2-3 sprays.Just when you think it gone you get 'whiffs' coming back in the air. Could be a fine signature scent also. Someone mentioned a possible reformulation as I have noticed the newer bottles with a blueish juice,go for the purple juice you won't be disappointed :)

sprashanth1982

Givenchy - Gentlemen Only is a hidden gem, a truly spectacular fragrance that somehow hasn't got much hype or love from the community. It opens up with a nice pink-pepper/nutmeg/birch-wood combo that lasts for 15-20 mins, but on the drydown when it mixes with the cedar-wood/patchouli/vetiver combo, that is when it turns into a magical, awesome scent. The scent is of the highest quality, comparable with that of Chanel, Dior or Creed's top fragrances.

Currently in my place we have the rainy season where the outdoor temperature is a pleasant 27 degC with slight humidity. In this weather condition, I was able to get 2.5 hrs of solid projection and then becoming a skin scent that lasted for upto 6 hrs, but I was still able to get whiffs of the scent from time to time. It's a really amazing fragrance.

I'm still waiting to see how this fragrance will perform in our extremely hot and sweaty summers, but I think it should do well.

Amazing fragrance - I highly recommend it!

mikiud

It smells exactly like Mancera Wind wood!!

Joksie_peep

Does someone know what year Gentlemen only added the note list to the back of their bottles. Was there a reformulation with it at all. I saw a bottle in Sephora the other day that had a purple hazy kind of color compared to a more blueish tinge.

Tomasr

This is an underrated modern classic imho which is better suited that way because the less people who wear it the better. There is nothing like this outside the Givenchy line and this is a very uplifting and pleasant fragrance all the way through the opening onto the dry down. People have nothing to compare this to and frequently ask me what I’m wearing. It’s unique without being controversial and is definitely a people pleaser. I wish projection were better but that’s typical Givenchy, this is after all a gentlemen only fragrance. Monsieur Givenchy would be proud. 9/10.

mesziman

So amazing and clean. The perfect office scent

realmarkvon

This is my favorite pink pepper fragrance. The pink pepper literally dances off my skin.

Dancing pink pepper.

I dislike this on paper. Spray it on skin, and let the pink pepper dance.

A beautiful Arab girl bought this for me with love <3

RobbieX

An absolutely gorgeous sweet, floral and long lasting fragrance. Violets, vetiver, pepper, fruits and musk. Beautifully blended. I just can't stop sniffing myself!

Wlingle92lx

Am I alone in thinking that the far drydown smells similar to Aventus? I guess it’s the birch, patchouli and incense giving the similarities.

Fantastic fragrance. Simple yet modern

MikeyAkinty

I bought this for my Dad and every time he had it on, you could tell the fragrance truly lived up to its name. And so I decided to buy mine. It was one of my worst purchases ever, together with Cartier Declaration D’un Soir. I came to just one conclusion after using it for some time, some fragrances suit some people way better than others.

Everyday Steve

Love this scent. Like the name, smells like something a gentleman would wear. Fresh, clean and masculine.

Buysblind

I love this stuff. It's a solid fragrance to wear to work and to smell good while remaining somewhat discreet and not attracting unwanted attention. The overall smell is something like the pink pepper accord you get in Spicebomb, but it's crisper, less-sweet, and a bit more brisk and airy as well. Thus it wears less heavily and has a very fresh quality about it that balances the sweetness. Before I tried this, I thought it was going to be a lot more conservative and "boring" in its impression, but it's really not that at all. Although it's somewhat safe, overall it's quite uplifting and feels rather modern. While the fresh-spicy-sweet pink pepper accord generally drives the fragrance, it's supported well by a woody vetiver accord in the base that emerges later in its development, and a kind of gray, smoky incense that that keep the pink pepper and mandarin orange in check, lending a needed and slightly bitter more masculine element to the mix. On the whole, it's a well-polished and blended fragrance with very smooth transitions and harmony and balance between the notes. You'll feel crisp and fresh wearing this and will be able to enjoy it throughout the day even if you're not intruding the space of those around. Longevity is solid and projection is on the better side of average. Quietly becoming a favorite of mine, I'd give Gentlemen Only a final rating of 8/10, and I'm going to recommend it as a blind buy for those in the market for a fresh, safe, and modern casual-office fragrance that gets the job done.

YaGirlSniffsMe

Amazing scent! Super clean very very versatile. If someone thinks this fragrance smells bad I’d be surprised. Perfect office scent the name says it all!! All year round scent in my opinion.

Ladyd4475

I love this scent on my husband.
He blind purchase based on review and one of my favourite.

khurram777

Such a wonderful product
No matter where I go I always get asked what I'm wearing and getting compliments . If you truly want to start making women turn and approach you this is the product

jcsa.007

Very easy to wear fragrance. It smells clean, fresh, citrus.
I like the fragrance, the only thing I don´t love about it is the pink pepper, I think they should have left that out because the combination of the notes especially in the opening are VERY good except for the spice the pink pepper brings. I would give this a 7.5/10 because of the pepper, other than that it would be a 9/10.

duckduck1995

The opening of this fragrance is sweet and earthy. I get hints of green mandarin and nutmeg, while the notes of vetiver and pink pepper are the main players. It reminds me off a lighter version of Lush Karma. The dry down loses its sweetness which I actually prefer. This is where the musk, cedar and nutmeg come alive and continues on with the fragrance’s earthy and herbal nature. The projection and longevity of this fragrance is on the weak side. However due to this shortfall in performance, I feel this fragrance is well suited for formal events if you want to appear elegant in a subtle way. Overall this is one of my favourite designer fragrances and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Attlas

I never tried the fragrance. I own the after shave Balm. Excelent balm. The best I ever tried.

Criglett Clussnum

This is actually a great gentlemanly scent! It's not to powerful and its fresh, smooth and consistent. It's perfect for work, daytime and date night! I give this a 9.4/10.

zesty_calco

A friend let me borrow his bottle to test out. A fresh aquatic note with some wood in the base. Maybe a little citrus. I get the pink pepper and vetiver. While it doesn't smell like nag champa there is a kind of smokey, musky incense similar to Bleu de Chanel or Acqua di Gio Profumo. In fact, I find GO is styled similarly to Bleu de Chanel. A bit of that typical cologne vibe.

This smells clean and collected; like the wearer isn't trying too hard. Pleasant, safe maybe a little boring. Masculine but not decidedly so. Sillage and projection felt about average. Wears nicely in all but the hottest and coldest days of the year. Pretty versatile as well; it won't offend at work but it's not really sexy. Lasted a decent six hours before becoming soft. I'm not wowed by the bottle but it's not ugly. Price isn't too bad for what you get. GO is a very middle of the road frag for me. I won't be picking up a bottle but you could do much worse.

smellsbells

very barbershop talc like-i like that smell when i used to go to the barber as a kid.Yet not baby powder-there is a diff.Very manly and sweeter but never cloying.CLASSY.

barobert

Really good cheapie. Great for work and casual. This is definitely signature scent worth albeit not being a night out scent.

Longevity is about 7+ hours on skin and projects an arm length then gets closer to the skin after 2-3 hours. It doesn't become a skin scent until maybe hour 7. Excellent in warm weather so spring and summer certified.

lostscent

ARMAF has a clone of this called JUST FOR YOU, which I own. You can get it for $25 CAD.

JFY is definitely underpriced and ONE of THE BEST releases from ARMAF. It smells natural - no alcohol burn-off when you spray it. It's not too loud or too soft - VERY office-friendly but NOT fruity or girly or too "freshy". The bergamot, mandarin and "vetiver" (although vetiver is not listed) combined with the nutmeg, leathery note & a little touch of incense all come together to solidify this fragrance - it's not too sweet, not too woody, not too pungent...and it's projection is modest, which is why it's good for the office...

Yes, it does clone Givenchy Gentleman Only - and that fragrance is top notch - the incense is a little more pronounced in that one compared to the Armaf - and the opening is a little more dense in the Givenchy as well. JFY is more linear whereas Gentlemen Only noticeably changes from the opening, mid to the drydown.

Givenchy projects for more time (JFY's projection dies down to a skin scent rather quick - like 0.5 hr but lasts 7+ hrs).

BOTH fragrances are scents for gentlemen - they're not meant to shout out your presence unless someone walks right by you.

JustAverage

@Uh-umm, this is definitely a sleeper fragrance and one of, if not my favorite designer scents. I love this and will always have this little gem in my collection.

pronose

Nice & clean scent good for daily use but not a masterpice like givenchy gentleman of 1974 was! Today scents are less complexe than 70's scents! The nose behind is francis kurdjkian.

dglightblue

I agree with the accords listed, I will add that the fragrance is light, rather than thick.
I have casual chic on the other arm, I find that one more fresh and deodorant like, but still a lovely blend.
This is smooth and cool.
I imagine possibly unisex on the right person too.

Quiet, reserved, private (on the softer side sillsge) but no less attractive.

I cannot yet comment on the longevity as I’ve not long sprayed it, it’s a stinking hot humid day.

Uh-umm

Underrated. The evolution of this scent is phenomenal. In the same category as BDC EDP. The aquatic top notes are heavenly, and the incense and vetiver makes for a great dry down. Honestly, don't get why it isn't talked about often again, underrated and easily a favorite. You can never over spray this cologne. Also the cap is made out of real metal.

Eaatwood

Armafs Just for you is a dead ringer for Givenchy Gentlemen only. It's not synthetic and has about the same performance. I got 4 hrs of projection and I can still smell it 14 hrs later.

kikiena01

This one is a unisex in my eyes. It sure has some typically masculine notes, but the slightly aromatic yet fresh and clean feeling it gives can be easily pulled off by a woman!

It is unlike anything I have ever smelled. Great for spring and summer aswell as early fall season. Both the sillage and longevity are not very good which is a shame. But if you don't mind re-applying your perfume throughout the day you should really test this one out.

GREETINGS FROM THE CZECH REPUBLIC! :)

Eau de Nikita

I NEED NEED NEED THIS COLOGNE. This is my definition of clean laid back and distinctive. I love every stage of it!

Eau de Nikita

Ok this one without a shadow of a doubt will be knocking one of my beloved favorite fragrances off the perch in my scent profile. Just trying to decide which I have to say goodbye to. This Givenchy Gentlemen Only is so easy for me to wear & almost signature worthy in my opinion. Something about it was so laid back. I originally went to Macy's to see if I was missing out on anything as far as Dior HOMME Eau (another must-have)and Prada LHome Eau were concerned then ended up being captivated by the Givenchy Gentlemen Only. So that says a lot.

Colm

This one is really nice for a spicey fragrance, the base note has a nice musky sent.

Youssef Tarabey

Simple and sophisticated. Great unisex fragrance in my opinion. The best part of the fragrance is the drydown.
10/10.

Eau de Nikita

Omg I will definitely will be getting this! I finally tested this live at Macy's and I loved it from start to finish! Something about it said this is "me." There are great fragrances that have special something's about them then there are ones that you're like "this is my attitude and also goes perfectly with my skin chemistry." And well well well...I see someone comparing it to Jil Sander Feeling Man which is my signature hmmm..

Gina Ky

I have always liked this frag.
A sort of modern future incense.
A transparent tecno Wood.
Essential urban classic.

The base notes recall me Sauvage by Dior.
And a bit Jil Sander Feeling Man

camp70mint

A safe scent perfect for the office and church. You will offend no one. It smells nice, though it is boring.

One of those scents where people would notice and maybe say that is a nice scent. But would never say I loooooooooove what you are wearing! What is that fragrance???? I must have it for my boyfriend.

Yes it is nice. Yes it smells generic. Is it worthy of a FB? It can be had for cheap online now. If you have any church functions to go to (church service, wedding, funeral, baptism) this would be my first choice. You would smell nice without drawing unwanted attention to yourself. At a wedding, it's not about you, it's about the bride and groom. Wear this then.

If you are running errands and just want to smell nice but inconspicuous, this works for that too.

Derek Zoolander

@CassandraAlexa

Even a woman can pull of Gentlemen Only? Bwhahahaaa! What a joke.

Yup$ki

John Varvatos? No way.. JV is much darker and sweeter and i'd say it's definitely an oriental, while THIS is a woody/citru-aquatic. Pretty obvious and evident by the color of the juice and bottle in most cases and it's no different here:)

This much more in the vein of Versace Man Fraiche or Azzaro Chrome Sport; with a different, woodier drydown. Birch which is nice, i like it when i get burnt out on cedar or pine. That is immediately what my nose got upon trying my sample.

9/10

papabear

smell like john varvatos for men

editionblanche

I really like this one! It's a burst of pink pepper in the opening. And it's such a nice aromatic smell, something clean and fresh also creamy but never too much spicy. As the first notes fade, the musk woody basenotes kick in but still talking harmonically with the pink pepper and the vetyver. Sometimes i feel it's a bit synthetic though. IMO this reminds me a well dressed executive in his daily work at the office. It's kinda mature but in a bright opened up way. This smells pleasant, no one will turn their nose away to this one.

said.mubarok.96

Some bad reviews made me curious about this one.. Let see what will I find.

HOUSTONHOUSTON

Safe blind buy. Nothing special but it is a lovely cologne. For everyday use. Will not offend anybody.

Wordley

Yes, it's pretty generic, but that's okay if you're looking for an everyday mainstream fragrance that not going to offend. It opens up with a smooth, slightly muted spiciness that's nicely balanced with sweet fruity overtones, and there's nothing not to like about that. The dry down is pretty rapid, about an hour, and although not particularly interesting (I didn't detect even a hint of the alleged vetiver) it's nonetheless quite pleasant. However, after a couple of hours the show's over and all that's left is a slightly odd, and vaguely unappealing, leathery skin scent. As usual, my gripe is about value for money, and at £66 it should have decent sillage and last longer. Not one I'd buy, but I can see why others would.

CassandraAlexandra

Gentle.Men.Only

I don't feel that strong musky note or aggressive amber that would make it men's only. On my skin I can feel gentle patchouli and musk, woodsy notes and then green notes. This scent is almost sweet on the drydown, very yummy. Maybe it's the mandarin?
This fragrance is inoffensive and beautiful, it's got the allure that many current 'fresh-out-of-the-shower' scent don't. "Gentlemen Only" is not scrubbed crispy clean and got some sensual twist to it. On the skin it is sexy and classy.
I wish more men would wear it instead of Sauvage by Dior.

PS This fragrance isn't aggressive 'look at me!' type of scent. It is a scent for a confident man who knows how to entice a woman

Ourfrank

Beautiful Woody fragrance. Pleasing to most. Great church type scent or night out. Has great longevity for me. I love this scent. Unique and leaves an impression. I highly suggest it if you have not tried it yet.

mikkiboy

If someone remember original Trussardi Uomo from 80's, and can't find it anymore, this one is the closest you can get regarding of smell. Very pleasant smell, just make you feel nice, and that's the best of it.

joenick68

This one has a very enjoyable opening and is very noticeable for the first 2 hours, with some complements coming through before it gets to the dry down point when basically stays very close to the skin with a very short sillage and pretty much gone by the end of the day if you don't refresh it. Not bad but still my favorite from the Gentlemen Only is the Casual Chic flanker.

tarek trabulsi

I started with this elegant one like a week ago.
At first i didn't raise my hopes too high due to many "cold" reviews", also my first imprison was: "Ok, nice, elegant" not more.(something in the mixture between the fresh and the warm woody notes didn't come right to me at first sniff, and somehow reminded me with a sophisticated version of YSL l'Homme Libre)
Day after day of wearing it to the office, it grew on me in a "gentlemany" way. I started to understand its quality. It doesn't make efforts to show off, or to make a strong statement in your face,it acts like a real gentleman who has the elegance, confidence, and doesn't need to prove anything. Just pure sophistication.
The performance is fine too for what it should do.
Am happy i gave it the right time to show what it really is.

rakan1985

scent : 8/10
sillage : 8/10
longevity :7/10
70% day / 30% night fragrance
nice woody and fresh scent

AstralMatrix

The opening is beautiful and smells somewhat unique, but it dries down to a generic skin scent.

keen(nose)

I have a relationship with this fragrance. I had it for over 3 yrs now. This is a non offensive scent if you are into to that thing. I have lotions that projects the same as this. I get a hint of citrus in the opening. You get some woods here with no insense and a little musk. I would discribe this scent as a sweet woodsy fragrance with very soft projection or skin scent. I say this is for spring and summer. This is a lovely scent that lacks a lot a character to be a getelman. With a name like that I would like this scent to smell manly. I do think this scent is unfinnished. I you want something like this I reccomend Dior Homme Eau which is also soft but with some character to it.
Scent 8/10
Projection 3/10 Great for job interviews and work
Longevity 2/10 2hours of soft soft projection

bfactor

The scent is pleasant, yet complex and layered. However, its longevity is a shame: It lasts less than one hour on my skin!?!
What is happening? And I don't believe mine is a fake.

Smell : 4 / 5
Versatility : 4 / 5
Longevity : 1 / 5
Projection : 2 / 5

remy.cullen.5

"Burned spicy" is probably the best way to describe the way this fragrance feels. It is classy, elegant and sophisticated, yet modern and youthful. It is the fragrance of a blue shirt, it is the clean cotton on a winter morning, it is the fragrance that makes us love the ordinary and find that fragment of ourselves that settles for the beauty of everyday, simple things, instead of always reaching up.
Gentlemen Only is bringing something else to the fragrance table - a warm fragrance that is not overpowering or "too much", which is a hard task in the age of The One, DHI and other parfums and inteses that make you anosmic to anything but the power of their scent.
Gentlemen Only is one of the best all-arounds, the only season you cant wear it is the summer. When talking about it being characterless, I have to say only one thing: characterless fragrances are the ones that might be made for everyone, but only a few can wear them and feel like they are a part of them, just like Chanel Egoiste Platinum. They can be everyones, but not everyone can make them seem so personal.
However, this is an utterly forgetable fragrance. I keep putting on ads for decanting and selling of GGO, only to be reminded of how beautiful it is when I grab the box and smell it. Thats why I say this is "signature or nothing" fragrance, and it grieves me to say that, even though I love it, it is not a fragrance that I can call my winter signature, it just isnt the one that makes me anticipate colder months so that I can wear it, but it sure as hell came in close.

Carrieberry

I absolutely love this on a guy. It is classy, sexy but not overbearing. The incense note is to die for. I see this as the every day scent of a successful man. <3

gorely

This is a beautiful fresh woody fragrance; it has lots of characher and a touch of efortless sophistication. Good longevity too.

Amal Elyahyaoui

very energetic, energizing, awakening and alive, i bought it for my husband on the valentine's and he too much liked it.
no woody notes in it i was able to smell, i smelled a lots of earth, water, balsamic and air...
i can easily recommend it to dynamic men,
once you wear it, you can say you are present; its sillage is very strong and it's pretty long lasting

mirul

Smell very balmy and burned spicy and almost like herbal. Not really fan of this scent.

peter.honkoop

I find this a very generic edt. Not bad, but nothing special either. If you want a soapy smell go for Creed original vetiver.

RobbieX

This really is a delicious woody, fruity, floral, soapy and spicy fragrance with an ozonic note. I can smell a violet note in there. Longevity and silage are both very good. It has lots of character and smells divine. The dry-down is the best part - lovely soapy and clean. Gentlemen Only is a fabulous juice, no question about it.

esteban747

A classic and casual combo. Clean, inoffensive yet sophisticated.
Vetiver is the main note and from then on we can see some spices melting with patchouli and cedar.
Projection seems to be great at first application but after a few minutes it becomes more quiet still perceptible.
Although the notes are a big yawn (at least to me), the execution of this fragrance is phenomenal, creating a fantastic perfume.
Even though this is not my type of fragrance, I have to say that Gentlemen Only deserves to be taking in consideration for sure.

joenick68

This is the first Gentleman only version bit I got it at the end, after getting the intense and then the chic versions, which that last one is my favorite, this is not bad but I think the later versions are much better.

tricky5000

I love this cologne a lady smelled me and asked, what cologne I wearing, usually I don't tell but I told her she was like keep wearing it

jérémie.simonet

Not so good...I dont like.

ProgAlfa

givenchy feminine only

urobian

Stop comparing with Bleu & Libre, nothing close to them in this Givenchy.
Gentleman Only is really nice, no problem to be a "generic" like to masses because the smell is balanced, comfortable and appealing. Fresh in not "watery" tune & gentle floral herbal mix with some fruity-spicy touch nice blended in this creation but at the end the florals lines are dusty and confused with some strange note of a soapy femenine -spicy tune, anyway is so nice.

raiza1990

Very nice fragrance. Soapy but spicy. It smells like those handmade soaps you can buy on the french countryside. Smells like quality and elegance but at the same time it is low profile and humble.
Thumbs up for this one.

ConsumerThis

This is what you call a safe fragrance. If one is having trouble deciding what to wear, spray this. It's versitile and clean. It's a little on the "basic" side of things but it's not horrible.

VicValentine

Smells like an ashtray.

Littlegrassstraw

Polite soapy wood. Would not mind smelling this on a man but it is not for me. Patchouli is apparent which i like, the smooth kind rather than dry or raunchy. Nice in the beginning then something irritates my eyes eventually.

libou

I'm shocked it's smell like opium pour homme

antoneux

I bought this without realizing how similar it was to L'Homme Libre, which I already owned. I swear that sample I tried for several days smelled way different. Can't believe I didn't notice the similarities. Kind of disappointing to be honest. I should double check next time before making a big purchase. Didn't go to waste though, gave it to my dad for his birthday and he loves it and wears it well.

Gentlemen Only is nice but I much prefer L'Homme Libre as it definitely lasts longer.

Mikeinmich

I discover Gentlemen Only by accident. I was in a doctors office, flipping through a magazine, when I saw the advertisement. I pulled back the sample strip, and smelled it. VERY NICE I thought. I tried it a few more times before purchasing it. Clean, fresh and a bit spicy. I know the sport version seems to be more popular, but I like this one much better.

A6Trinity

I'm a huge fan of Givenchy's fragrances. They're by far one of my all-time favorite designer fragrance houses. From the beautifully vanilla-y Pi, to the sweet and intoxicating Play Intense. I was pretty excited to get my nose on yet another great addition to the amazing lineup of colognes Givenchy has released. Sadly, my excitement was in vain for what I smelt was something I would never classify as something you would ever desire to wear. I sprayed it on a piece of paper at a Sephora in Florida and got a good whiff of it. If you've ever lived in Florida and mowed over Dog Fennel, you know what I'm smelling. It was bar-none, the worst fragrance I had ever smelt. I tried again at a Sephora in California. It was no different. Givenchy really messed up on this one in my opinion. I have a sadistic desire to find a fragrance worse than this one just because I have way too much respect for Givenchy. I've heard horror stories of Secretions Magnifiques by ELDO, but I haven't smelled it yet. But if you like it, good on you. Just don't wear it around me or I'll probably punch you in the face.

EDIT 6/3/2016: I smelled Secretions Magnifiques. I'd buy 100 bottles of Gentlemen Only over a single bottle of Secretions Magnifiques.

pars2002

Very good very cool but very Ordinary. You can easily find tens of fragrances out there with similar notes. I think nobody hates it. Weak projection and very weak longevity.

FabulouslyLazy

Lovely perfume to smell on a man. And Simon Baker!!! ❤

davide2111

OTTIMA fragranza con note d'arancia e pepe rosa su tutte! Giusta la frizzantezza che relega al profumo il mix di vetiver e noce moscata, tale effervescenza è amplificata dall'incenso ed il muschio bianco! Consigliato soprattutto in primavera, soldi ben spesi!
Longevità 8.5/10
Sillage 8.5/10
Profumo 9/10

At first I did not quite know what to think of this scent. In truth I was a bit taken aback and wasn't sure whether it was the result of something hurriedly slapped together and ill conceived idea or possibly inspired in design.

However, courtesy (for it was a gift) required some semblance of use; It has been this occasional "enforced" use that has lead me to conclude, over time, that Gentlemen Only may well have been rushed [conjecture] but truly this is a very clever scent - an air of simplicity that belies a complexity. I never bore with it and enjoy it's good company.

A great wee gift and a scent I shall replace as long as it is made.

Purchased this one a couple days ago as a blind buy and I am glad I did (It's Givenchy so of course it's good, right?) I'm not completely sure what they've done here but the way they've blended all the notes is quite beautiful. To me, the mandarin comes on strong but quickly takes a back seat to the vetiver and red pepper then settles into a woodsy, incense kind of scent. Juicy, Masculine and modern. Bravo, Givenchy.

I have this one but it is too generic.
You can wear safely at work.

Wow, this is wonderful stuff!

My brother was presented with this juice, and he loved it; it's like nothing I've smelled during the last 10 years.

I'd buy it if I didn't have so many perfumes now--sometime I will.

Really like this fragrance. To me the opening smells a little like Fahrenheit. And then yeah it goes to an incensed type of smell but I like it. I would always reach and spray this when cruising the department stores and finally said I need to smell it whenever I want. Smells similar to YSL libre and they came out around the same time, but I like this one better.

This is my first review here on this wonderful website which I have been following for a long time.

I was out hunting for something new when I came across this new fragrance from Givenchy.

Given that I was looking at something to wear to work everyday, this turned out to be a perfect purchase.

The top notes, or perhaps the most immediate of the top notes, are faintly reminiscent of fruity pepper, orange and cold water (which I do believe has a particular scent).

I don't get much of the heart of this scent on my skin. The top notes fade away in about a half hour directly to the dry down, which to me smells of burnt incense ash, rose and a slight musk.

Sillage is nominal at best, which is the best way around a happy office. Longevity is reasonably good, but certainly does not last past a few hours at best.

If I were have a moment of synaesthetic realization, I would color this a pastel blue, white, cream, and sandcastle.

This fragrance smells like Terre d'Hermes took a shower, threw on a t-shirt/shorts/sandles, and went to chill outside to the backdrop of a sunset.

I bought this one by mistake, but my military store didn't have a test version. I thought it was the one my husband liked. It's not. It's ok I suppose. I do not like the generic nature of it. It reminds me a little of cheaper colognes found in young men's clothing stores. If anyone loves this cologne and would be interested in purchasing mine, please let me know. We haven't used it at all. Just opened it to smell it. Unfortunately our military store does not accept returns if opened.

This drys down to a very spicy and woody masculine fragrance on my skin, and I am totally ok with it. Gentlemen Only isn't something that is ground breaking and needs to scream and shout. I will be adding this smooth smelling fragrance to my wardrobe in the future.

Really versatile perfume. Super manly great fragance.
Spicy. I get a lot of vetiver. For me its linear. Really really Good
For work. Business. A time with friends. It lacks a litle projection.
But its a Good fragance. Compliment getter

Today I bought some decant of this perfume. For those who believe it is similar to "YSL L'Homme Libre" I should say totally not. The top note smells a bit look like "YSL L'Homme Libre", Spicy and woody, but more intensive. After a while the cool scent turns to be more sweet. The longevity and projection is moderate that I can say it is at least 4 hours. I think It would be a good perfume for daily routines. However, you can buy better perfume whit that price.

This would be my signature but it's performance is a little lacking on me. Maybe it's just my skin type. I love the smell, vetiver, pink pepper, and incense are what I get. It's earthy and mysterious, a gentleman with a story to tell but doesn't have to. You can see it in his look and his scent. Darn, I love this scent but my skin doesn't respect this fragrance.

Update: while it's not a super performing scent, I've come to the conclusion that it's probably better that way. Performance is passable, a solid 3 hours before it gets more quiet. The projection is also passable, about arms length leaving a trail. It's a good work scent but a scent you don't mind doing happy hour drinks with.

(YSL L'Homme Libre - violet leaf) + incense = Givenchy Gentlemen Only.

I like it but it's far from being my favorite incense fragrance.

It's likable & has that warm, cozy feeling to it, like many fragrances that rely on the incense + pepper combination.

My favorite thing about this fragrance is it's beautiful bottle!

A safe blind buy & a safe gift.

Incense all sexed up. If you are into fragrances that smell like sour incense, this is for you. Way sweeter and less acrid than Ford's Black Orchid.
