Spanish Cedar Eau de Parfum by Czech & Speake is a Woody Aromatic fragrance for women and men. Spanish Cedar Eau de Parfum was launched in 2014. Top note is Bergamot; middle notes are Clove, Blackberry, Plum and Galbanum; base notes are Cedar, Sandalowood and Guaiac Wood.

The British house of Czech & Speak is launching the new woody-fruity fragrance named Spanish Cedar, inspired by strength and beauty of cedar, which in this olfactive interpretation is enriched with juicy and gourmand fruity notes and fine spices. The composition is created of the finest essential oils providing strong character and high quality development of the fragrance.

"With my new fragrance the cedar is not from Spain but my motives are linked to Spain. Memories of boyhood holidays in Menorca, of sandy coves surrounded by sun bleached pine and cedar trees that would produce an unforgettable resinous smell. This fragrance to me is the memory of these days and the version I have made is an exotic blend of woods, resin, smoky notes balanced with citrus and piquant notes. “

Spanish Cedar has been introduced in 2014 as a woody fragrance intertwining with fruit. Its juicy and gourmand character originates from plum cabined with bergamot, galbanum, cloves and blackberry. The base encompasses a strong trail of cedar enhanced with sandalwood and guaiac wood. The fragrance arrives as 100ml EDP edition at the price of 105 pounds, and can also be ordered at the price of 3 pounds for 1ml.

A tiny squirt of this stuff triggers desire. A sharp punch of bergamot is closely followed by a dose of cloves then a dreamy descent down to the forrest floor, surrounded by sun-warmed resins, sweetly-decaying fruit and woody notes.

It's a very nice, masculine-heavy, old-fashioned fragrance, which nicely bridges the gap between winter and spring- based scents.

Spanish Cedar opens with a sharp and contrasting combination of fruity plum, blackberry and bergamot, with spicy clove and bitter galbanum. The fruity notes are well blended and smell high quality, however the clove note is very overpowering and while not unpleasant, comes off very mature.

As it dries down, the fruitiness begins to dissipate while the clove persists and a woody base of cedar, sandalwood and guaiac wood emerges. Ultimately this becomes a cedar and clove dominant fragrance which is quite strong and bitter around the edges.

This fragrance isn’t really my sort of scent, although that doesn’t make it bad. It’s very mature and masculine, I imagine this would work well for men over 50 as it smells very classical and old fashioned. I feel like you really have to enjoy clove and bitter woodiness to enjoy this fragrance.

Andy the Frenchy

Opens full on cloves and galbanum, that will combine with the bergamot to give a light impression of mandarin in the background. Galbanum will be present during the whole journey. Shortly after, the cedar will step in with a light sweetness support (plum?), and a hint of vanillic woodiness (sandalwood? Guaiacwood maybe? who knows...), giving somewhat an impression of tobacco. It will stay linear like that afterwards. No news of the blackberry.
Overall a very interesting fragrance of quite simple structure, but creative. I love it, but it might very well be too edgy for some, so not a safe blind buy. Best worn during colder days.

Masculine, zirtonelle, stong galbanum, turns quite herbal almost bitter but sweet at once. Doesn't feel fruity more herbal woodsy. A smoky oak on the drydown, like a burning wood or fire, definitely smoky burnt match feel. Very masculine.

A clear and obvious predecessor to the more recent Perfecto Fino by the same brand, Czech & Speake Spanish Cedar is less about the tobacco and more about the woodier aspects. It also has more zing throughout its development due to the bergamot and berries; the colour theme of the bottle/packaging is most appropriate as a result.

In its deep dry down, Spanish Cedar leans quite masculine with the alluring and warm birch tar note. The scent projects surprisingly well, yet it does not overpower or get cloying at any time. This makes it ideal for year-round wear, including the warmer months.

What is most commendable about this scent is the lack of any sweetness whatsoever. This is not your run-of-the-mill designer scent of the post-2010 era. Instead, it stands high above current trends, as have most of Czech & Speake's scents.

All in all, a high-end, long-lasting niche chypre, sans any sickly-sweet accords. Worth sampling at the very least.

This is my second Czech & Speake fragrance I've tried (No88 EDP, splendid) and it's just as bloody marvellous.
The opening is an amazing heavy fruity blast - a hot toddy, a mulled wine, a big glass of cola with a couple of drops of clove oil shaken in. I can understand why some may find it a bit overpowering but I'm bowled over by it.
As this amazing spicy fruitiness eases off the rich resinous woody notes come to the fore. Cedar and sandalwood with a heavy smoky tar. This isn't acrid as it's held together with a smooth balsam like smell (the galbanum?) and the last whiffs of the plum and blackberry.
Longevity is very good; after about 8 hours it becomes a soft skin scent. Sillage is moderate, though that's probably because I only put on a tiny amount.
I have some more Czech & Speake smellies to try and can only hope they're as good as this.
Spanish Cedar, excellent.

I love Number 88, and this scent sounded good on paper, so I bought a 100ml bottle. It's a little too sharp of a fragrance for me. I can smell Cedar mixed In with Citrus. It's hard to say accurately what the longevity, sillage is for any fragrance, simply because your nose gets fatigued after the first 5 minutes, and you can simply not smell it on yourself any longer.

Ticktock

Tried a sample of this recently. Hmmmm.
I get an accord which reminds me of aniseed sweets mixed with Cedarwood oil.
I need to wear it a little more but I wasn't overly impressed, which is a shame as I like the sound of it on paper.
Not bad but not something I would go out of my way to obtain.
For the money I'll just buy a decent bottle of Scotch instead.

Just to update I wore this again and it has grown on me. As it develops I basically get cedar, tar and cloves in the dry down.. a sort of "mature" resinous vibe.
Again, nice enough but a lot better choices for the higher price tag.

This fragrance brings all the girls to the yard - mostly by zimmer frame. Perfect scent to get some action in the old folks home. Out of place everywhere else

Spanish Cedar by Czech & Speake

Spanish Ceder is the first men's EdP strength fragrance from Czech & Speake. The fragrance opens with a delicious, although fleeting, fruity blast of bergamot, blackberry, with a hint of cloves. The opening is almost juicy, like a candied orange or tangerine and I just couldn't help sniffing my wrist upon first spraying it. After five minutes or so, the fruit starts to dissipate, and Spanish Cedar beings to settle into its resinous, warm and creamy heart of Galbanum, Cedarwood and Sandalwood - and there it remains... for hours and hours. It has superb longevity, and a pleasant, reasonable silage that makes Spanish Cedar an excellent choice for the office or business meetings; although, now that I am wearing it I am imagining myself in a log cabin by a lake somewhere in the mountains of New Hampshire or Vermont.

It was a hot day today, and this fragrance wore very well, but I expect that Spanish Cedar will really shine come wintertime, which is when I am most likely to wear it. This fragrance will appeal to fans of the combination of Cedar and Sandalwood. It is woody, resinous, very masculine, mature, and brings to mind the aroma of a exceptionally well-crafted cigar humidor.

Definitely sample this one if you get the chance.

Been a big fan of C&S No.88 for about 25 years and this new fragrance by C&S sounds terribly appealing...the blackberry & plum notes with the wood notes have the potential to be a surefire winter winner---providing of course that the notes are in good proportion and blended well...really looking forward to giving this one a go...in the meantime, will keep my fingers crossed and will post a review once I've given it a whirl.

MimramMan

After the most fleeting (and rather harsh?) bergamot opening I get the cedar, blackberry, clove and tar for sure. The overall impression for me is of fine wine - no boozy note, but rather the wood and fruit you'd get from a good well oaked Cabernet Sauvignon. That and fine cigar boxes so certainly it smells rich and expensive. Anyway I'll have to give the sample a proper wear but so far thumbs up.
