Muzeum Gniezno Mobilne

The creation of the museum in Gniezno related to the ongoing here since 1948 archaeological research aimed at understanding the history and obtaining monuments documenting the origins of the Polish state and its first capital. The results reveal an impulse to the establishment in 1956. Gniezno branch of the Archaeological Museum in Poznan, located at ul. St. Jan 9, where he presented the main sights from the excavations.

In 1966 he came up with the idea of ​​erecting a monument of Mieszko I and Boleslaw the Brave, the first Polish historical rulers. The monument that became a complex of buildings with a present: a museum, auditorium and spectacular high school. It launched in 1973, according to the project made at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan. The construction of the monument was an opportunity to create an independent institution of the museum in Gniezno.

Museum of the Origins of the Polish State as an institution came into existence in 1973. A change in business profile: the archaeological site for multiple departments, with extensive archaeological department has created from scratch, and historical and art history. Since the mid-70s durable also prepare the main permanent exhibition, designed to be a summary of the contemporary state of research on the evolution of Polish statehood. The ceremonial opening of the permanent exhibition "The origins of the Polish state" in the new building at street Kostrzewskiego 1 took place in March 1983 year.

Our museum is an institution dealing mainly Polish medieval heritage and history of Gniezno and region. It has archaeological, artistic, historical and archival; It conducts scientific-research, publishing and education within the museum classes. In addition to regularly enriched with new exhibits permanent exhibitions in the museum organizes a diverse, cross-cutting temporary exhibitions presenting the monuments from prehistory through the Middle Ages and modern times until the present day.

We offer our customers, the people of Gniezno, Wielkopolska and domestic and foreign tourists high-quality exhibition services and education, popularizing the current state of research on the history and culture of the Middle Ages, and especially the issue of the origins of the Polish state and the development of Gniezno and the region of Wielkopolska. We want to promote at the same time among the visitors a sense of the great importance of Polish history and Polish patriotic traditions.

The museum preserves and surrounds the proper concern of cultural artifacts and testimonies of history arising in the period from prehistory to the present. By participating in the cultural life of our modern times, we also want to familiarize our customers with the works of art emerging now and in the recent past, the form and means of expression beyond the strict framework of the visual arts.

Museum runs scientific, research, publishing and popularizing, actively cooperating in these areas with existing partners, in particular with other museums and academic institutions, as well as doing and will do in the future, efforts to establish contacts with new partners.
